Freightliner have been conducting regular driver training trips over the Tyseley-Henley in Arden - Stratford upon Avon and Stratford - Hatton lines recently for them to operate Railhead Treatment Trains trains this autumn. 66415 in the Genesee & Wyoming orange livery crosses the Stratford canal near Whitlocks End on 28 July 2021. The focus chose to go slightly awry...

As spring begins to roll itself along, the testing of Class 720 units on the West Anglia line in advance of entry to service as started to increase in volume.

With testing now observed to have commenced with only single units in use (pairs were previously the normal), 720539 starts its journey away from the loop it resided in for excess of an hour working 5G61 12:39 Bishops Stortford Up Loop to London Liverpool Street 10/03/21

An outing to Norfolk - Freightliner 90047 leads 90044 on the approach to Trowse working 0Z90 0806 Ipswich Field Sidings to Ipswich Field Sidings via Norwich Royal Dock. Recent equivalent trips, assumed to be for driver light engine hours, have been to Clacton, so seeing a pair of Class 90s on the Great Eastern Mainline North of Ipswich is very welcome. Three return trips to Norwich were covered during the day.

New Year’s Eve sees two drivers about to board their train at York. I hope the picture serves as a little tribute to all the railway staff, and indeed other workers, who put in such long and unsociable hours, particularly at holiday times.

Many thanks to all of my Flickr friends for all of your kind and highly valued support. I always thoroughly enjoy viewing your streams, it’s great to have such wonderful lessons in photography, I’ve learned so much through Flickr.

New Merseyrail Class 777 (005) built by Stadler Rail, is seen on a test run this evening at Formby Station working 5T77 2247 Southport to Liverpool South Parkway. Running 7 minutes late.

258 is doing a lot of the driver training test runs to Leith and Newhaven over the extended tramway, which should open in June 2023. Here 258 is seen at Picardy Place at the east end of the city centre and the first of the new stops towards Newhaven. Peeping up behind the tram is St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral. Newhaven is going to be about 17 minutes by tram from here.

And another horrid day...

As new Stadler units continue to come online across East Anglia, test runs to iron out more faults and introduce drivers to their new equipment also continue across the network.

In rather grim weather conditions, 755401 passes by Stansted Mountfitchet working 5Q06 10:50 Cambridge Recp 1&2 Dbc to Orient Way Cs, a relatively rare venture of a 755 south to London 28/02/20

With the summer weather bringing the lineside plants back to life, Greater Anglia Class 720 EMU 720548 approaches the Twyford Road crossing to the south of Bishops Stortford starting out its working on 5G61 12:39 Bishops Stortford Up Loop to London Liverpool Street.

No date for passenger introduction of 720s to West Anglia appears to yet be set, however with the fleet of 317/7s now withdrawn from use and other 317s hitting the scrapyards at a rapid pace, their entry to service cannot be far off... 10/06/21

As the coronavirus continues to cause disruption to daily life across the world, the UK railway network moves forwards in progression.

Recent months have seen Class 720 and 745 units for Greater Anglia begin testing purpose on the West Anglian lines, in preperation for their entry to service in due course.

Passing by the fields, Class 745 EMU 745002 approaches Elsenham working 5Q93 14:24 Cambridge C.S.D. to London Liverpool Street on test.

745002 is a example designated for use on the Norwich express services, different from the Stansted Express designated 745/1 sets, however in practice it is expected that sets will become mixed into either route operation 19/05/20

A new career.

Currently on loan to First Hampshire and Dorset from First West Of England is driver training Volvo B7RLE WX55TZB, formerly 66940. It had recently been at Weymouth garage, but was seen making its way along The Hard in Portsmouth, before turning into The Hard Interchange on May 24th 2021.
