Here we see the rare sight of Freightliner locomotives 90045 (front) and 90018 (rear) passing a foot crossing on the outskirts of Great Bentley on the Clacton Branch Line on the afternoon of the 22/11/25.

The pair of 90s were working driver training run 0T92 from Clacton to Clacton via Colchester.

Three of the six 2009 Landrover Defender 110 SW vehicles operated by the National Risk and Resilience Department, Special Operations Response Teams. All members of SORT were required to pass a course of off road driving in the 110's and Polaris 6x6. Defenders were basic Station Wagon specification but with heated seats and ABS. 2.4 diesel, 6 speed through a 2 speed transfer box with high / low and centre diff lock.

IIRC, ex GM 7953 was bought on spec from Hyde Road when it was offered to NBB by Stagecoach Manchester when the latter withdrew it from their training fleet. NBB wanted to train its own drivers so along came 7953, used initially in its GMB driver training colour scheme, before the orange gave way to yellow and later 53 became an NHS recruitment vehicle when the body started showing signs of deterioration but with it still retaining the odd NBB training role if their other trainer, a National 2, was unavailable.

DB Cargo Class 67 No. 67005 "Queen's Messenger" passes Broadbottom as it works the 0Z50 09:41 Peak Forest Up Sidings to Peak Forest Up Sidings route learning trip on 17th August 2020.

Formerly part of the Manchester to Sheffield route over Woodhead, the remaining branch to Glossop and Hadfield sees little in the way of locomotive movements, and less so in daylight, so this visit was most welcome. This was actually the second trip along the branch, the loco having run to Hadfield and back to Guide Bridge earlier before completing a repeat run.

It is believed DB Cargo will be operating the local Railhead Treatment Trains this autumn, hence the need to train crews along the branch.

A picture taken inside CIE's Inchicore Works (Ireland) during an open day many years ago. Besides the expected rail interest, there were many road transport exhibits, though I don't think this part of the yard had been intended for public perusal. Various oddities were noted like this Ergomatic cabbed Leyland Beaver tractor unit... just guessing but it may have seen use as a driver trainer! Looking closely at the picture it seems some of the N/S front wheel studs are missing, still, there are enough left to hold it all together;-) On the left is one of a huge number of front engined Volvo B57s imported from Singapore to replace elderly buses in the school fleet. Also present, though I can't find the negative, was a cut n shut Atlantean chassis.
