George Wright was an artist who lived in Annan for many years. This sketchbook was given to a young child to draw on in the 1920’s. This wee girl is now a grandmother and has kindly allowed me to copy the book and make the images available on-line. Thankfully her mother saw the significance of the book and did not allow her to draw in the book. We all hope you enjoy looking at these lovely sketches, which include locations around Annan and in the Scottish Borders.

35th annual Rosary Sunday draws thousands devoted to Mary, holy rosary

In a kaleidoscope of colors, sound and movement, more than 6,000 faithful in the Phoenix Diocese gathered to honor Mary in the most anticipated Catholic event of the year, Rosary Sunday.

Under her title Mary, Help of Christians, the 35th annual celebration continued its traditional offerings of confession, adoration, benediction and recitation of the rosary.

The downtown Phoenix Convention Center opened its doors Oct. 10 to ethnically diverse members of the Body of Christ whose public prayers in different tongues paid homage to Mary, especially for her protection of the unborn.

Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted was greeted with a standing ovation from an enthusiastic crowd that filled the seats, as others searched for open spots.

“Today, we see how Mary is the mother of all of us,” Bishop Olmsted said in his bilingual address.

Auxilary Bishop Eduardo Nevares, recently back from a trip to Rome, delivered an apostolic blessing from Pope Benedict, which was received with a round of applause.

Christy O’Gara said she attended the event for the second year with her six children so they could “see all those that love Jesus.”

“Now, more than ever, we desire to be together as witnesses to the world,” O’Gara said.

DBiE Day 2: Opening, Meetings, Seminars & Prize Draw

On Sunday morning Eddie and I decided the sky was not going to improve up on Taylor Mountain. What to do? Head down to Braley I guess. The sky was deteriorating by then anyway. Well, there are always detail shots over at Braley that I am far from using up. I can always find something out there. I stopped off at Blue Heron on the way while Eddie drove on into Braley. I wanted to look at the Blue Heron pond to see if the reflection shot would work. This old shed was pretty darn shady as I walked by and caught me eye next. The green crept up on it since I last walked by. Braley always serves up something new especially at different spans of the day. The green shade caught my eye on the way over to where I knew Eddie would be standing in the barn admiring the red tile silo holding down the same dirt he usually does. Important dirt I suppose. I'd better not step in it or the pigeon doo-doo mixed in. Breathe carefully around the pigeon dirt... or Eddie for that matter! The barn remains posted... as if that mattered. Off to see if Eddie might have moved... what are the odds?

I found Eddie, imagine where? Oh well, I turned to look at the barn. Her is a small implement draw bar Farmer Braley used out here on the farm. Eddie must have heard me say, "A draw from the bar!" Geeze! He had to fire his psychic when the psychic couldn't guess what was wrong. I don't have to guess about Eddie. Someone already skedaddled with the farm implements.
