All right, I know what you're all thinking...WTF is a Squonzeling? And why, dear sirs and madams, is it so very profound? — The answer? I have no idea. But I know who does: Animator, Illustrator and all around Pencil-Swordsmith-Wizard James Braithwaite.
James was invited to theme and make the poster for our 28th Draw By Night party, entitled The Profound Squonzeling. The man, or at least the virtual face of the man, joined us via Skype from his studio in Montreal as we drew fictional medical diagrams and fantastical anatomy charts, which could tie in loosely with James' short animated film, Persistent Infection (in production).
In no way were these drawings meant to be anatomically accurate. In fact, we used our imagination engines to dream up new insides to our bodies. Sounds fun, right??
Like always, this was a free all-ages event open to the public! Like always, people came armed with their favorite drawing utensil or just their bad self and made use of our stuff. We provided materials and sandwiches for their inspiration. They provided the Profound Squonzeling.

Find a specimen to draw –there are lots in the galleries nearby.
Look at your subject closely –illustrators are good observers.
Try drawing it from different angles – which angle shows your specimen best?
When you have finished, bring your picture back and put it in the drop box on your right. We will put as many as we can on display.

We had a model yesterday, which was a huuuuuge treat. I haven't gotten to draw models much lately, and I've really missed it. For these exercises I focused on his face for the second two, his face is just very sensuous, though I can't really explain it. Anyway, I really enjoyed drawing a model. I'm hoping to work with models again, though I'm not sure how it's going to work.
Just a draw inspired by iithinkii bears... I'm pretty happy with the result... POSCA inside :D

There will also be a Zine Factory hosted by Sarah Wolf Newlands’ Freshman Inquiry classes, “Work of Art,” from Portland State University.

This place has its own atmosphere, quite strange, but so much photo-friendly.
That bridge is for the Newburyport and Rockport commuter rail lines. The smokestacks are in Everett, and that's the Mystic river. Taken from Draw 7 park, Somerville.

So here's a little blue bird! I'm not the best at sketching animals...YET! The color didn't come out quite right but I didn't have time to fiddle with it.
