This poor little guy was doing his best to impress the ladies - he even did a little dance...sadly to no avail. We are fickle creatures :)))
This was one of the display cakes I made for upcoming exhibitions. Unfortunately this and another 2 were on my kitchen table when water started to leak through the bathroom ceiling onto the cakes !!! I dont have time to repair this one, it's quite bad on the top and around the sides where the water has melted the icing so thought I'd take a quick picture before I scrap it. :o(

Displayed on a digital advertising screen outside a supermarket the day after Queen Elizabeth II died. I cropped the original slightly but I can't account for the illusion of charred parchment on the left hand side of the photo. No enhancements whatsoever

The fabulous firework display held at Katharine Lady Berkeley's School, Wotton-under-Edge. I decided to try photographing from Wotton Hill this year, to capture the Jubilee Trees as almost a silhouette.

Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga) ~ Orlando, Florida
Living in Florida, I see many Anhingas daily. And, as much as a bird lover as I am, I mostly ignore them. They're either in the water, with their long snake-like necks and sharp beaks hunting for fish or posing on land with their wings out stretched allowing them to dry. This guy, however, was in full on breeding colors and actively performing a display to attract a Mrs. All his feathers were puffed out and almost standing on end, and his wings were quivering behind him while he bowed his head up and down. All this was performed high up in a tree, but, luckily for me, it was a tree next to a three story structure and I was in the right place at the right time. This is a second shot in a series I got of the behavior.
Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) (Tom)
Brown Acres – Jackson County – Oregon - USA
After spending four hours out and about looking for wildlife, I came home and found 30 Turkeys on my driveway.
“Wild Turkeys are very large, plump birds with long legs, wide, rounded tails, and a small head on a long, slim neck….. Turkeys travel in flocks and search on the ground for nuts, berries, insects, and snails. They use their strong feet to scratch leaf litter out of the way. In early spring, males gather in clearings to perform courtship displays. They puff up their body feathers, flare their tails into a vertical fan, and strut slowly while giving a characteristic gobbling call. At night, turkeys fly up into trees to roost in groups….. Wild Turkeys live in mature forests, particularly nut trees such as oak, hickory, or beech, interspersed with edges and fields. You may also see them along roads and in woodsy backyards. After being hunted out of large parts of their range, turkeys were reintroduced and are numerous once again.”

We must have gotten a little to close to the female and the babies so this male went into quite a display.

Of all the diving ducks on the island the Ring-neck duck is probably the most scarce with only 3 being reported on the whole Avalon, 1 male and 2 females.
On Saturday I was hoping to see the male at Quidi Vidi lake since he had been reported there for a little while now. Only once before have I had the chance to photograph the male so I was excited to see him amongst the divers when I arrived.
I had hoped to come away with the classic field guide shot showing all his beautiful markings. I had grabbed a few keepers and I was just about to clue up my morning when I noticed him coming my way. He obviously wasn’t coming for me but I did notice he was coming for the female that was right next to me. I heard his distinct courting call and then he did his display. Hoping (actually praying) he would do it again I framed him up and let fire. I was very pleased when I looked at the back of my camera.
Note that the usual injunctions against approaching nesting birds don't apply in the Galapagos because the birds simply aren't afraid of humans. Only sites that don't harbor sensitive species are open to tourism, and all visitors making landings have to be accompanied by a certified guide. The rule here is that you have to keep at least 2 m from the wildlife -- and that's about how far we were from this pair.
