The Shambles is a historic street in York, England, featuring preserved medieval buildings, some dating back as far as the fourteenth century. The street is narrow with many timber-framed buildings with jettied floors that overhang the street by several feet. It was once known as The Great Flesh Shambles, probably from the Anglo-Saxon Fleshammels (literally 'flesh-shelves'), the word for the shelves that butchers used to display their meat. In 1885, thirty-one butchers' shops were located along the street, but now none remain.

The largest/heaviest flying bird native to Africa, the Kori Bustard (Ardeotis kori) is a ground dwelling bird and an opportunistic omnivore. The males can get up to 42 lbs and stand nearly 5 feet tall; they may be twice as heavy as the females.

This is a male in breeding display striding about with his neck puffed out, his tail fanned and wings planed and pointed downward. If he was looking to court a lady, we saw none in the vicinity - perhaps he was just practicing his routine.

Unlike many other lazy males, it is the male Great Blue Heron that builds and takes primary responsibility for maintaining the nest. Once built, to attract a mate he begins a display where he squats down, raises up calling lifting his beak to the sky. It’s sad to see a male go through a season, building a nest, displaying over and over again to no avail. Maybe it’s his first or possibly last season or there is a shortage of females. Unknown. Maybe he just built a lousy nest and no female would approve. Anyway, one he has successfully attracted a mate he will continue to bring nesting material and pass the sticks to the female who will work to intertwine them with the existing sticks to further solidify the nest. Quite a show. This guy is shown at the apex of the display on, what looks like to me, a fine nest and I liked his display too. (OK, hold those comments wise guys). (Great Blue Heron - Ardea herodias). (Sony a1ii, 400mm lens, f/2.8, 1/2500 second, ISO 4000).

"The Loveliest Castle in the World" is just along the road from where i live had their firework display this evening I was lucky to have some press passes to go and watch and take pictures

This display is part of the male great egret's courtship behavior. A nearby female watched him perform his ritual. It worked:)

Paintings by Rosy Mondal displayed at the India Art Festival 2025 in Bengaluru.

Rosy Mondal is an artist who specializes in customized acrylic and watercolor portraits and hand-painted apparel (such as Punjabi suits), working under the name "Rosy's art and creativity".

This haunting sculpture is in the ancient city of Pompeii. It was created by artist Igor Mitoraj, and is one of 30 of his bronze statues displayed there. The art was planned in such a way that “Gods and mythological heroes will populate the streets and squares of the town that was buried by Mount Vesuvius. They will emerge like dreams from the ruins.” The visit to Pompeii is something I have wanted to do all my life, and was probably the most memorable part of my trip to Italy.

I just happened upon this egret all by itself. I shot through an opening in trees to get the display.

Whether it be rivers, roads, tracks in fields -I've got a thing about meandering curves, and I know I'm not the only one!

A lot of us develop it.

Here one of my all time favourite trees; the invaluable Japanese maple variety "Sango Kako" formerly "Senkaki"

or coral bark maple, displays not only its glowing sealing wax red bark, but also the flowing curves which make up its elegant and graceful form.

The red & orange stemmed dogwoods & willows are also beautiful but not in the same league for intense colour & habit.

Had to use the 300mm lens to isolate the curving branch, so you don't get the full effect here but artistically it did what I wanted & gave the Bokeh of course.

Every afternoon around 3pm in my garden the sun lights up this tree & it glows brighter than any tree or shrub in full flower from October through to April - hope you like it :)

Goldeneye have a little mating dance ritual and as part of the choreography they throw their heads back like in the photo. The courtship display is very entertaining to watch it if you can catch them in the middle of it. The Bufflehead and the Hooded Merganser have similar rituals too.
