Hello Everybody!

This curvy bloom was originally pale pink. Being that it is Slider's Sunday, I decided to try for something a little more punchy. After pulling all sorts of sliders, this is the result! The image was edited with effects in Topaz Studio.

Thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving a comment! I do appreciate hearing from you! Have a wonderful day!

Hello Everyone!

Manitoba is besieged with sub-zero temps (currently it's -33C/-27F) and so I went hog wild with an iris in hopes to warm myself up! )0: I used an impressionism/abstract filter, and saturated the colours. Lots of slide pulling for this one! Hope you enjoy the results of my playtime! HSS!

On a beautiful fall afternoon in late 2012, I drove my Corvette from my home in Vallejo to Lake Solano in northern California to take pictures. Along the way, I had to pull over when I spotted this scene... the angle of the sunlight hitting the side of the mountain created beautiful contrasts and highlights in the trees. It was magical!

Unfortunately, there were some serious lens flare issues with the series of photos that I took. While revisting them tonight, I decided to see if I could use that to my advantage by adding sunbeams and then a bird... how do you think it turned out?

I orginally named this "Californian Paradise"... but liked the new title better.

Wild Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis)

Hello Everyone!

These showy wildflowers appear in spring near the edges of forests and along roadsides, generally in the mid-north region of the province. I tweaked the image in Photoshop Elements 15, then added an effect from Topaz Studio to render (I hope) a more painterly look. Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!

Hello There!

From my archives: It was wonderful to find this Monarch in a natural setting. It's posed on a wildflower called Meadow Blazingstar which Monarchs are quite fond of. For Sliders Sunday, I processed this in Photoshop Elements 15 and then adjusted colours in Topaz Studio. Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!

If you look closely, you'll find a few ants going about their business. Incidentally, the background was a clump of low-growing evergreen bushes.

Edited with an added effect in Topaz Studio.

Hello There!

For Sliders Sunday, I thought it would be great fun to create my own lily cultivar without getting my hands dirty! I played with the hues quite a bit and increased the saturation a tad in Topaz Studio. Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!

When twilight sets its last fires on the walls of the High Places of History, the mirages of the past are revealed which still haunt the site. A strange vibration then seems to inhabit the sky

Quand le crépuscule accroche ses derniers feux aux murailles des hauts-lieux de l'Histoire, se révèlent parfois les mirages du passé qui hante encore l'endroit. Le ciel peut alors sembler habité d'une vibration étrange.

Harvest Mice of Mare Island's salt marsh best beware of what is in the air! After all, what you can't see can hurt you...

This is another image that I shot in 2012 along the salt flats on Mare Island in northern California. The highlighted weeds and seeds floating in the air first captured my attention. The Mare Island straight (i.e, water) and a mountain range can be seen in the distance. The background is washed out by the sunlight hitting the haze. And, yes, I’m still having fun with creating composites. In this one, I added the owl to complete the scene.

A tribute to Charlie Parker's "ornithology"

Un hommage à "Ornithology" de Charlie Parker

Hello All!

I vividly remember this particular day of trying to capture the Black Swallowtail that was zooming around in a meadow. You can just imagine me running around, trying not to fall in the lumpy terrain! (It was great fun)!

My goal with this slide was to try and mesh impressionism and vividness together using Topaz Studio. I hope you like the results. Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!

What the Last Evening Will Be Like

by Edward Hirsch

You're sitting at a small bay window

in an empty café by the sea.

It's nightfall, and the owner is locking up,

though you're still hunched over the radiator,

which is slowly losing warmth.

Now you're walking down to the shore

to watch the last blues fading on the waves.

You've lived in small houses, tight spaces—

the walls around you kept closing in—

but the sea and the sky were also yours.

No one else is around to drink with you

from the watery fog, shadowy depths.

You're alone with the whirling cosmos.

Goodbye, love, far away, in a warm place.

Night is endless here, silence infinite.

Hi There!

Something a little different here! I suppose that total lockdown makes one a little bonkers, what can I say?

This is my first attempt at using Deep Dream Generator. I've been really inspired by the great photo art that some of you have created with DDG and thought I'd give it a whirl. After all, it's Slider's Sunday, a day to go hogwild with processing!

Happy Slider's Sunday! HSS!

Visitors to Glennallen Alaska will probably be surprised to see a Subway Sandwich shop, carved out of the wilderness, in the very center of town. Since 99.9% of visitors arrive in the summer - I thought I'd show everyone what it looks like on a sub-zero day in the middle of winter. You've got to climb through the snow to get to your favorite sandwich.

Hello Everyone!

I had no idea that a crab spider was in this frame until I saw it on my monitor! What immediately came to my mind was the old rhyme, "Spider Spider on the Wall!" Happy Slider's Sunday! HSS!

A little bunch of flowers, then a little slide here, a little slide there. Hopefully I got this to look more like a painting than anything. I really enjoy impressionism so this is something along those lines (I hope). HSS! Happy Sliders Sunday!

This is a teeny butterfly that I spotted in a ditch a few summers ago. I didn't crop it any further because I really wanted to show how small it is. In hopes to have the image look more fanciful, I doctored it up in Topaz Studio. (Edward Hopper 1)

I couldn't think of a clever caption, so I decided to stick with what this flower is, a lily. it's an impressionistic approach via a slide here and a slide there! Effects are from Topaz Studio. Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!

"The Leaf" is a major indoor horticultural attraction that recently opened here in Winnipeg, Manitoba. To see so much greenery when it was -25C was really something! This section is but one of the featured biomes at The Leaf. HSS!

I took the scene to Topaz Studio for editing and the addition of an effect.
