This was the first quality camera I ever used (not this exact one). I had borrowed it from a friend when I was 16 and took some pictures of her at a park and she taught me to develope them in her darkroom (don't read anything into that). Fond memories of those days. Thats when I got the "bug" for photography (thanks forever Linda). I went through 3 cameras in the next year and my first Canon SLR a FTql.
This beauty came to me about 15 years ago and except for the light meter is in working order. I photographed my daughters wedding with it as digital just wasn't good enough at the time.
About the specs and history....
The first Yashica TLR (twin lens reflex) with crank advance was the Yashica-Mat, released in 1957. The earliest models are equipped with a 75-mm 3.5 Lumaxar taking lens and a 75-mm 3.2 Lumaxar viewing lens, succeeded by 80-mm lenses with the same specifications.
The Yashica Mat-124 (this model) was made from 1970 till 1986 and was the last TLR produced by Yashica. Even if this type of camera seemed to be obsolete at the time of its appearence, the 124 was an instant success.
The 124 has a four-element, 80mm F3.5 taking lens, of the better "Yashinon" variety. Focusing is via a ground glass screen, with a 3x diopter loupe for critical focusing, as well as a sports finder. The focusing screen is used with the camera at waist-level (which is a real pain since everything is backwards). The sportsfinder, incorporated in the focusing hood, is operational by pushing the front cover backwards. According to the Instruction Booklet, it comes in handy for snapshots or when shooting fast-moving objects at eye-level. No screen to check focus in this set-up though. The Copal shutter features speeds 1 to 1/500 sec., plus B.
The 124(G) can handle both 120 and 220 film.
Very slow to use it was best suited to portraits and studio work as well as landscapes. This particular camera was probably produced around 1972.

Not happy with the previous jpg version of this set of falls I decided to develope one pf my RAW images (now that I know how to :- / ) using SilkyPix Developer Studio 3.1 SE. I'm sure you'll agree a lot more of the colour, feel and detail of this shot have been retained as opposed to the previous. I feel it does the falls a lot more justice ( compare and see for yourself). I think I'll have to shoot in RAW more often.

The Lancia D50 was designed as a Formula One car by Vittorio Jano making use of the innovative ideas of using the engina as a stressed chassis member, the offset positioning of the driver to allow a lower overall height and the use of pannier fuel cells between the wheels to improve weight distribution and aerodynamics.
Debuting towards the end of the 1954 season in the hands of twice World champion Driver, Alberto Ascari the car claimed pole position and fastest lap but was thwarted by a failed clutch. Ascari started the 1955 season with two accidents the second at Monaco, four days later he was watching his freind Eugene Castelotti testing a ferrari 750 Monza at Monza when he asked to try a few laps. The car sommersaulted and Ascari was thrown out and fatally injured.
Following Ascari's death, and in increasing financial trouble, the Lancia family sold their controlling share in the Lancia company, and the assets of Scuderia Lancia were given to Scuderia Ferrari. Ferrari continued to develope the car although ammending and removing many of its features, including the side pontoons, and rebadging the cars as Ferrari D50, in which form Fangio went on to win the 1956 drivers championship.
Of the six original cars four were either broken up or destroyed the remaining two reside in Italian Museums. Throughout the 1960's, 70's & 80's, Guido Rosani made it his life's project to gather all the remaining D50 components, plus a complete set of D50 drawings, much technical data including dyno reports and spidery hand written race reports as well as Ascari’s contract with Lancia. the Fiat Lancia Museum very kindly allowed Guido to dismantle one of the two surviving original D50s to check details and measure dimensions. Ercole Spada, retired chief stylist at Zagato, helped Guido with body drawings and designs as well as the buck. Borrani agreed to supply wheels and hubs to the original pattern. Allemano which had made the instruments for the D24 and the D50 in the 1950s and was still in business agreed to help. In England Jim Stokes painstakingly disassembled the chassis and checked, X-rayed and crack tested every item. He then rebuilt the car to race standards and re-assembled the engines and transaxles. The engine had new pistons, rods and crankshafts, both for reliability and to save the unthinkable risk of damaging an original block or head. Everything was rebuilt to the original specification with very much the same methods as would have been used in the 1950s. On the dyno, the engines gave almost exactly the same output as Lancia had obtained, varying between about 220 and 230bhp. After minor adjustments, mainly for handling balance, the cars turned out to be race worthy and reliable as built.
Anthony Bamford, Bernie Ecclestone and the late Tom Wheatcroft helped with the project.
It is said that these Lancia are more original than many of the Maserati 250F's they now regularly encounter

Autocars Sabra Prototype (1960) Engine 1703cc S4 OHV Production 1

RELIANT SET

As well Reliants domestic production of three wheelers, the company was in collaboration with Autocars of Isreal developing and producing a series of four wheel economy cars for the Isreali market.
Autocars President Isaac Shubinsky had ambitions of producing a small sports car to export to America, boosting Isreali exports.
With this in mind and following a visit to the UK racing car show he took a body from specialists Ashley Laminates and a LMB chassis from Leslie Bellamy. He then persuaded Reliant to mate the two, which was powered by a Ford Consul 1703cc engine. To produce this car.
The prototype was road registered and its first 2 or 3 owners were Reliant employees. It was purchased in decrepit condition in 1984 by a Keith Healey, who embark on a thorough restoration. In 1989 it was sold at auction to Morris Cohen for a very hefty (£10,000) who retained the car for around six years, it spent another four years doing the rounds of various dealers until bought by Hugo Holder who undertook a massive restoration including a, chassis and engine rebuild and converting it to RHD and it was purchased by its present owner in 2010.
From this prototype came the production version of the Sabra (a name of honour given to Jews born Isreal). The first 100 were built at Tamworth by Reliant while Autocars geared up for production and were exported directly to America, a total of 162 cars were built by Reliant which were chiefly sold in America and Autocars went on to build a further 171 in Isreal of which 41 went to the USA and 71 to Belgium.
One was entered in the 1963 Sebring 12 hour race, which was forced to retire with a broken drive shaft.
Production stopped with the Six Day War. Orders already placed were honoured, but delivery was delayed until 1968–69. Worldwide, over 100 Sabra cars are still traceable, over twenty of them in Belgium.
Having developed the Sabra, Reliants Ray Wiggin made the decision to develope the car for the UK marketplace, so a couple of early cars were converted to RHD and the subtly different name Sabre was adapted. The Reliant Sabre (four cylinder) was a curious looking car and not well received with only 44 cars sold, between 1961-65 but Reliant pressed on with the developement of the much more handsome.six cylinder Sabre Six SE4A, and the rest as they say is history..
With thanks to the owners exhaustive notes on this car.

During the 1950's Harry Ferguson began developing a four wheel drive system for cars. The system became known as the Ferguson Formula and was adapated to some experimental Ford Zodiac Mk.III Police Cars, the Ferguson FF race car and on the Jenson Interceptor FF.
This is one of the prototype vehicles used to develope the FF system. It has four wheel independant suspension and Dunlop disc brakes all round which use a Maxaret anti-locking system.
This one is registered as having a 1642cc engine, though conflicting reports suggest a 2.2 litre horizontally oposed four cylinder engine
