Out of the 65 Royal Tiger underframes built Plaxtons bodied more than Van Hool. Most of the Plaxton bodied Royal Tigers were large orders placed by the National Bus Company, Grey Green and the Leyland Dealer Arlington of Potters Bar. At some stage, Plaxtons wanted to develope their own integral Paramount 3500, using Royal Tiger running units, rather than the complete underframe. Plaxton had worked with DAF Bus on removing the centre section of the SB series chassis and incorporation the front and rear section into their own underframe, thus producing a semi integral coach. When Plaxton approached Leyland on the possibilty of supplying the Royal Tiger running units, Leyland would not play ball. Here we see a Plaxton Paramount 3500 (C52F) Royal Tiger owned by Worthing Coaches, the frame number indicates that it was built at Workington: RT1022, all the Roe built underframes were numbered B50.

Rover 3.5 litre P5B (1967-73) Engine 3528cc V8 Saloon Production 9099 Coupe (+ 11501 Saloon)

The P5 Rover is a series of large luxury Saloons and Coupes, designed by David Bache and first introduced in the form of a 3 litreSaloon in 1958.
The final iteration of the P5 appeared in September 1967 powered by a former Buick 3528cc V8. Rover had lacked the funds and time to develope their own V8 so instead decided to redevelope a lightweight aluminium concept engine that Buick had not taken up. They made it considerably stronger, which added some weight but still maintained the engine's light and compact features with an output of 160bhp. When compared to its predecessor, the aluminium engine enabled the car to offer improved performance and fuel economy with greater power and the lesser weight. Borg Warner Type-35 automatic transmission, hydrosteer variable ratio power steering became standard.
The exterior was mostly unchanged, apart from bold '3.5 Litre' badging, a pair of fog lights which were added below the head lights, cars rode on Rostylewheels with black painted inserts The P5B existed as both the 4-door coupe and saloon body style until end of production.
The 3½ Litre saloon variant was a favourite of high-ranking Government Ministers, and served as Prime Ministerial transport for Harold Wilson, Edward Heath, James Callaghan and Margaret Thatcher. As testament to their suitability, the last batch of P5Bs to roll off the Rover line in June 1973 were purchased by the British government and placed in storage, to be released for government use as required, resulting in relatively new looking examples wafting through whitehall and Westminster for almost a decade after the end of production. When Margaret Thatcher entered Downing Street in 1979 after her election victory, she was driven in a 1972 model. It was during Thatcher's eleven-year tenure that the P5 was eventually phased out as a Prime-Ministerial car, in favour of the Jaguar XJ.
Queen Elizabeth II also owns an Arden Green Rover P5B Saloon "JGY 280", which is on display at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire .

Navigation is the art of getting from one place to another.
The first records of boats large enough to carry trading goods are from between 3500 B.C. to 3000 B.C., so we can safely assume that that time also marked the beginning of navigation. These first navigators had no choice but stay close to shore and navigated by sight of landmarks or other characteristics on land that they could see. They travelled mostly by day and went for a safe harbour to stay at anchor at night. They did however develope kind of rudimentary charts, which listed directions, showed crude drawings depicting landmarks and certain dangerous places like reefs, sandbanks or rocks in the water.
Early documents state that the more experienced mariners of the time were said to plot their course by using certain star constellations so most vessels followed the east/west movement of the sun or the track of the stars. However, the ancient navigator had no way to accurately determine longitude and therefore, once out of sight of land, had no idea how far east or west he was. So his estimates were made based upon the time it took to sail from A to B. This is the simplest form of navigation and it is called dead-reckoning; it is still used by navigators today.
To determine the distance travelled from one point to another, the navigator would multiply the time he sailed by the speed of the vessel. Of course these crude calculations were often way off because time was still measured with a sandglass and speed was estimated by watching pieces of seaweed or wood pass by the hull.

Sometimes it's the facial expresion or body posture... but almost always it's the eyes that tell the story... I wonder what kind of stories this fella would tell us??? By the look in his eyes I would guess they would probably fill my eyes with tears. As many of you know to capture the true essence of our study we must take the time to allow all of the emotion that is bound up within to show itself... in this case I would need to visit many times to do justice in showing this emotion... more stories
Let's take time this week to make eye contact with those we love... fleeting moments can turn into deep satisfying stories if we just take the time to let them develope and then let them soak in...
Baker 25-50 Tractor (c.1929)
Abner Baker was born in Ohio, after working in the metal industry, he opened his own engineering firm based in Swanton, Ohio in 1894 near to the Toledo Railroad Junction. In that same year he built his first steam engine equiped with his own design and patent valve gear, which by 1920 was in use on some 12,500 US steam railway engines. He moved into the manufacture of steam tractors and threshers but resisted the early wave of internal combustion power followed by some of his major competitors.
The first Baker petrol powered tractor was launched in 1926 powered by a Beaver four cylinder engine it was a large tractor of 3.25 tons with a twin ratio two speed transmission, effectively four speed forward and two reverse ratios
In 1927 the 25-50 was launched powered by a Wisconsin OHV with a bore and stroke of 5.5 and 6.5 inches, which Baker claimed could achieved 50 belt HP. This was a huge tractor of four tons. Later in 1929 the engine was updated to a LeRoi OHV unit with a 5.5 inch bore and 7 inch stroke producing 67 belt HP and 75-88bhp with a drawbar pull of 7840lbs. As a result of these test figures the Tractor was rebadged as the 43-67
A D Baker continued manufacturing Tractors into the late 1930s but by then despite their rugged design the Baker Tractor had become old fashioned and without capital to develope a new design sales had dropped against competitors including IH, Case, and John Deere,
