This event kicks off a year-long campaign promoting the social, environmental, economic and food system benefits of local seafood in the community. It's developed in partnership with the Boston Collaborative for Food and Fitness (BCFF) and Health Care Without Harm’s Healthy Food in Healthcare Program (HCWH) will kick off the weekend of February 16th and 17th, 2013. The kickoff will take place at two of Boston’s winter markets: the Egleston Farmers Market in Jamaica Plain and the Dorchester Winter Farmers’ Market in Dorchester. Both winter markets now offer fresh seafood from local dayboat fishermen procured by Red’s Best, a Boston based seafood distributor that offers seasonal dayboat and traceable seafood direct to consumers at farmers markets and as well as wholesalers.
Cooking demonstrations from top local chefs will allow market goers to taste a variety of seafood dishes prepared, on the spot, right at the market. The first seafood event includes a Food Truck vs. Restaurant “Seafood Throwdown” on February 16th from 11am-2pm at the Egleston Farmers Market featuring Chef Irene Li of Mei Mei Street Kitchen Food Truck and Chef Marcos Santos from Tres Gatos. They will be cooking up their best seafood dishes with a mystery local seafood that is fresh caught and paired with local ingredients from the market. The Dorchester Winter Farmers’ Market will feature local Chef Karen Henry Garrett of Dot 2 Dot Café and other local chefs who will prepare local seafood dishes based on the local catch of the day and fresh ingredients from vendors of the market. Tastings will be available for pre-registered participants.

From September 15th to 19th the second of the four JCOM Masterclasses, educational programmes aimed at an international audience and held by international experts takes place. For the 20 selected participants this interactive course represents a unique opportunity to discuss the state-of-the-art of science exhibition development with particular focus on the possible different design approaches, helping participants to reflect on the relationship between the different media, contents and visitors' experience.

hey guys i developed some film and also i shot some film?
i have a few old rolls that i need to develop. but i've been sick (i actually missed >1 of work and usually i skip 0 works for illness) and on saturday it was a lovely day and i figured fresh air and forcing myself to shoot would be good for me in two ways. i've also just been in an emotional slump, and spring is probably going to help that a bit but… only so much sunshine and butterflies can do, but photography always helps so again, i need to get back into this stuff. ugh, what a terrible ramble! i saw someone very dear to me last night who i did not expect to have in town, and i was all sick and exhausted, but it was so so so worth it. so that was the better part of the past handful of days. anyway here's something green and leafy. like a leafy-green. there. will. be. photos. all. week!

Portmeirion is a model village built by its founder, the architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. He wanted to demonstrate that a naturally beautiful site could be developed without spoiling it, and that architecture in sympathy with its surroundings could be good business. His motto was "Cherish the past, Adorn the present, Construct for the future".
Clough acquired the site in 1925 for around £20,000. It was then, as Clough wrote, "a neglected wilderness. Clough immediately changed the name from Aber Iâ (Glacial Estuary) to Portmeirion: Port because of the coastal location and Meirion as this is Welsh for Merioneth, the county in which it lay.
The concept of a tightly grouped coastal village had already formed in Clough's mind some years before he found the perfect site. Clough sometimes later suggested the development was unplanned but drawings and models suggest otherwise. It appears that he had quite a well defined vision for the village from the outset and that to a large extent he stuck to it. Portmeirion was built in two stages: from 1925 to 1939 the site was 'pegged-out' and its most distinctive buildings were erected. From 1954-76 he filled in the details. The second period was typically classical or Palladian in style in contrast to the Arts and Crafts style of his earlier work. Several buildings were salvaged from demolition sites, giving rise to Clough's description of the place as "a home for fallen buildings".

Developed from the Wellesley, the Wellington prototype first flew at Brooklands in 1936. Its fabric-covered geodetic structure was able to absorb heavy damage, and it was the only British bomber to be used throughout World War Two, serving with Bomber, Coastal, Transport and Training Commands. Altogether 11,461 Wellingtons were produced, 2,515 of these at Brooklands.
N2980 is the only known surviving Brooklands-built Wellington. First flown on 16/11/1939 by Vickers’ Chief Test Pilot ‘Mutt’ Summers, N2980 was first issued to 149 Squadron at RAF Mildenhall and allocated the squadron code letter ‘R’ for ‘Robert’. It took part in the infamous Heligoland Bight raid of 18/12/1939, during which over half of the force of twenty-two Wellingtons were shot down by German fighters. The same aeroplane later served with 37 Squadron at RAF Feltwell, taking part in fourteen operations including day and night raids.
On 31/12/1940, while on a training flight over Scotland with 20 Operational Training Unit at RAF Lossiemouth, N2980 developed engine trouble and ditched in Loch Ness. All eight men on board escaped, but the rear gunner unfortunately died when his parachute failed to deploy.
In 1976 the Wellington was located in the Loch by a team of American Loch Ness Monster hunters and was successfully salvaged on 21/9/85 by the Loch Ness Wellington Association assisted by the National Heritage Memorial Fund. Despite nearly forty-five years underwater, the aeroplane was remarkably well preserved. The tail lights still worked when connected to a modern battery and many of the crew’s personal effects remained in the fuselage.
Delivered to Brooklands Museum by British Aerospace on 27/9/85, N2980 is now one of only two surviving Wellingtons but is the only one which saw action as a bomber in operational service.
