The CityLife project in Milan is a redevelopment of a former barracks and parade ground and the trade fair exhibition site Fiera Campionaria Italiana (which relocated to Rho Pero). The three office towers provide a focal point and form the heart of the CityLife business district. They are: the Allianz Tower by Andrea Maffei & Arata Isozaki (Il Dritto / the Straight One); Generali Tower by Zaha Hadid (Lo Storto / the Twisted One); PwC Tower by Daniel Libeskind (Il Curvo / the Curved One).
CityLife, covering 36.6 hectares, includes 1,000 new homes, offices for more than 11,000 staff, public piazzas and a public park. Parking is underground, there is a 5 km-long cycling path and a brand new metro station named Tre Torri. It connects with the Milan Congress Centre (MiCo).

Maintaining the Shield (deflecting depression) is an image that portrays the onset of depression. In the peripheral view a seemingly innocuous cumuli of tiny black particles begin to gather. They swirl and dance in the air like a noxious cloud of negatively charged electrons. Eventually the choking fringes of an acidic wave drift gently inwards. Within this murky cloud the metaphoric atoms of fear eventually reveal themselves, as they roll and settle into the mind like a fine mist. Looming blacker, they morph into particles of panic threatening to engulf all feeling, killing emotion, replacing memory with a numb abyss. No two people are the same, yet for all who experience the onset of mental darkness, it takes great bravery and training to recognise the signs of onset, to banish the cloud before it can envelop, to take control. To attempt an explanation of the unpredictability of its onset, in varied semblance, can lead others to doubt its very existence, which is devastating for the mind that is fighting this internal battle. Time, patience and determination are key to building a defensive enclosure that can filter in happiness yet block the spectre of destructive negativity and self deprecation.

A sample woven on the deflected doubleweave warp using 40/2 linen as the weft with 4 picks of hand-spun every inch or so. The texture is from using the much finer linen as weft in plainweave and the somewhat uneven turns per inch on the hand-spun . . . I think. I have just been reading the fabulous "Weaving Textiles that Shape Themselves" by Ann Richards and I may be getting ahead of myself:)
I noticed that downtown Seattle has bird deflectors of many different types on nearly every manmade surface which a bird might land on. I was struck by the ingenuity that went into many of the designs.
These are the SRB flame deflectors. They are rolled under the MLP on either side of the SRB flame holes to direct the SRB exhaust into the flame trench and away from the pad.

August 18, 2015: Lenovo Thinkpads are great machines but they do run HOT. I've used an inverted cookie sheet for ages to keep from roasting my lap but even so my left leg still gets toasted. If I was totally anal I might have done a CAD rendering and printed a nifty clip-on scoop but hey, it's me! On the occasion of the temperatures reaching 105 degrees outside I bent up this aluminum 'scoop' to redirect the fan's hot exhaust up and away from my leg. Took 5 min. It works!

Ordered 2003 Corolla Rain Deflectors, was sent 2006, but in this temporary (scotch tape) install, you can see they will work, but not just the exact fit. It's a difference I think I can live with though.
