5Z42 York to York via Malton, pictured at Barton le Willows. 68025 (on the rear) had failed in platform 2 at York & needed to be returned to Longsight. The most practical way to achieve this was for 68005 to drag the train to Malton & run round. On arrival back at York the ensemble became 5Q42 for the run to Longsight. Pole pic.
It's done nothing but rain here ALL day, so I've decided to go back to my holiday in the Lake District in September for a bit of colour. I love the dramatic outline of trees like this oak, which still looks proud and defiant to me.

A grand display of Cirrus clouds loomed over Kurri Kurri cemetery yesterday, heralding an approaching weather front. I was struck by how one grave monument stood way above all others and seemed to be trying to defy the clouds' approach.

Death Valley
We were able to make a quick trip to Death Valley this March. As we expected there were very few wildflowers this year but still fairly crowed on the dunes. We approached at the far end with the smaller dunes to escape the crowds and footprints. As always great to have some quite time with nature.
No prohibition, no amount of repression
No lack of freedom, could hold back
The defiant spirits of tomorrow.
From inside the shadows of a dark alley
Extending the wings under the bright sun
Not bothering the shallow confines,

A van with a parking ticket lay parked at the pavement adjacent to a building site. The owner must be a hard headed guy! I bet he dons a hard hat to go!
