To the earthquake victims in l'Aquila , Italy
April 6-- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 rocked central Italy early Monday morning, damaging buildings in the epicenter, some 95 km northeast of Rome. The quake seriously damaged historic buildings in the medieval hill towns of the mountainous Abruzzo region east of Rome. The deaths and damage was centered in L’Aquila, a picturesque fortress town at the epicenter, but more than 26 nearby villages were also affected, some seriously. Current Death toll 287.

The Alton Godfrey Rotary Club invited the public to the dedication of the riverboat mural at the corner of Broadway and Henry Street today. The scene was painted on the side of the River Bend Head Start and Family Services Building over the summer months.
This morning children were invited to stamp a design on the bottom of the mural, which put the finishing touches on the project. Muralist Rip Kastaris says it's been a great experience working with artist Mike Eckhard and the members of the Rotary Club.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Members of the Pennsylvania State Veterans Commission and residents and staff from the Southwest Veterans Home were among those who attended the Southwestern Pennsylvania Word War II Memorial dedication ceremony Dec. 6. After the dedication, attendees toured the memorial’s numerous panes depicting WWII events and southwest Pennsylvania’s contributions to the war effort. I went out very early today with my new friend Brian (Chaybert). We went up north of Lassen Park to Crater Lake. We were concerned about rain but didn't think about the fact that it could be snowing (which it was). Now I have to admit I admire Brian's dedication to getting the shot but I'm afraid that I won't be wading in a mountain lake in the snow anytime soon.
