A SONG OF ETERNITY IN TIME.
ONCE, at night, in the manor wood
My Love and I long silent stood,
Amazed that any heavens could
Decree to part us, bitterly repining.
My Love, in aimless love and grief,
Reached forth and drew aside a leaf
That just above us played the thief
And stole our starlight that for us was shining.
A star that had remarked her pain
Shone straightway down that leafy lane,
And wrought his image, mirror-plain,
Within a tear that on her lash hung gleaming.
"Thus Time," I cried, '" is but a tear
Some one hath wept 'twixt hope and fear,
Yet in his little lucent sphere
Our star of stars, Eternity, is beaming."

Motithang Takin Preserve, Thimphu, Bhutan.
The takin is one of the strangest looking creatures on earth. It is a gentle moose-like animal that is described as looking like it was stung by a bee. Originally a small zoo, the king decreed that it was not in alignment with Buddhist practices to pen up animals, and they were released into the wild. The takin; however, refused to leave and began wandering the city streets in search of food. The preserve was established, and Bhutan’s national animal is now taken care of by royal decree.

A curious whitetail eyes me before scurrying across the tracks while Connecticut Southern Railroad train CSO-3 switches on the south end of their former New Haven Railroad Hartford Yard. They have just come back from working Murphy Road Recycling south of downtown on the Valley Line, and after dropping off their loaded waste gons they will gather up their loaded lumber cars for Home Depot and head across the Connecticut River to East Hartford and the East Windsor branch.
In the background is Providence and Worcester 2215 a rather unique locomotive known a GE B23-7R 'Super-7' that was originally built as a U23B in Jun. 1972 as Western Pacific 2263. It was heavily rebuilt in Mar. 1989 at Erie as a demonstrator unit for GE's new Super-7 rebuild line. While only one US road (the Mongahela ordered 11) purchased them they were much more successful in Mexico with over 200 6-axle variants going south of the border along with a few built for Canada's Roberval and Saguenay. 2215 seen here was actually the first unit so rebuilt and was numbered GECX 2000 which she wore until being sold to the Providence and Worcester in 1998 along with sister demonstrator 2002. Transferred over to the to sister G&W road Connecticut Southern sometime after the big holding company acquired the PW in 2016, she has been a regular operating in central Connecticut, but now her days are numbered due to being on the list to be retired thanks to the Genesee and Wyoming / EPA consent decree announced earlier in the year.

Stow-on-the-Wold, originally called Stow St. Edward or Edwardstow after the town's patron saint Edward, probably Edward the Martyr, is said to have originated as an Iron Age fort on this defensive position on a hill. Indeed, there are many sites of similar forts in the area, and Stone Age and Bronze Age burial mounds are common throughout the area. It is likely that Maugersbury was the primary settlement of the parish before Stow was built as a marketplace on the hilltop nearer to the crossroads, to take advantage of passing trade. Originally the small settlement was controlled by abbots from the local abbey, and when the first weekly market was set up in 1107 by Henry I, he decreed that the proceeds go to Evesham Abbey.
Kastraki (meaning ‘small castle’) is a small, peaceful village which from afar looks like an eagle’s nest at the bottom of two gigantic rocks.
Kastraki is indeed a most picturesque place with an authentic, local character. Feeling closer to the local lifestyle in the Greek province, enjoying the proximity to nature and finding peace of mind are some of the major assets of this place that urge visitors to book accommodation in this traditional, beautiful village.
The houses of the locals are mostly made of stone, embellished with roofs of clay tiles. They do not exceed a certain height, as they abide by the regulations of the National Archaeological Committee for the preservation of the village’s couleur locale and out of respect for the surrounding landscape.
The village of Kastraki has been classified by the Greek State, following a Presidential Decree, as a traditional resort under preservation, for three consecutive times! It is a pole of natural beauty and Tourism, very distinct in the wider region of Meteora, included in the list of Cultural Heritage Sites of UNESCO. The people of Kastraki share a particular affection for flowers. You can see flowers even in the yards of the most humble houses. Very often in difficult times of the past the housewives of the locals would make flower pots out of tin cans, with which they decorated their houses and yards.
The oppressive heat of the day beat down on the heroine. It wasn't enough that the moisture made fur, leather and metal stick to her; the rum was nearly gone, as well.
Times were indeed desperate.
A casual stroll towards the job board displayed the usual notices; repairs for homes, offers of trade, decrees from some lofty aristocrat, and the occasional wanted poster.
One freshly-posted notice stood out from the rest; a call for a scout or adventurer to visit a nearby palace and determine why they stopped trade. A princely sum, too.
One hand tossed the empty bottle down away and snatched the notice; this would be an easy payday!
You can lock me up but I will never stop,
For I find freedom in the fire and the cold.
You think you hold the keys to my flight,
But I dance in the dark, unbound by your night.
I will not be silenced, though my voice you delay,
The winds of change will carry my say.
I am wind, I am flame, I am earth, I am sea,
I am more than these walls could ever decree.
You can lock me up, but I will never stop,
The prisoners dilemma.
The Baal Shem Tov taught that when a piece of straw falls from a wagon loaded with straw, this event has been decreed by Heaven. Similarly, when a leaf falls from a tree, it is because Heaven has decreed that this particular leaf at this particular moment would fall upon this particular spot. Once the Baal Shem Tov showed his disciples a certain leaf as it fell to the ground and told them to pick it up. They did so and saw that a worm was underneath it. The Baal Shem Tov explained that the worm had been suffering due to the heat, so this leaf had fallen to give it shade (Sha’ar HaOsios, Hashgachah Pratis).
-THE PATH of the BAAL SHEM TOV EARLY CHASIDIC TEACHINGS AND CUSTOMS, DAVID SEARS
Times are hard, I'm sure you'll all agree
there's no end it seems by decree
endless days of countless claims
to fame we seek what this life proclaims
so many sunrises become clouded
over midday apprenticeships hope faded
our time hemmed-in by worried anonymity
however progressive life seems, we live it vaguely
existence! continually running...testing the faithful
escaping the latest crimes so dreadful
seeking safety from weaponary precission
away from politically-motivated convention
yet, the stratosphere of mind is still free
ours for open play, the crowning glory and beauty
victory in stealing the breath from under the noses of governments
life is free for us to inhale and caress all the purity it presents...

Spiral stairs.
Thousands and thousands of tired weary feet had trodden on these spiral stairs that lead to the upper levels of the Queen Victoria Building.
It opened for trade in 1898 has been a landmark on the Sydney scene since.
The QVB has its origins dating from 1810 Governor Macquarie dedicated the site to become a market place.
By 1820 a two storey building occupied the site and in 1829 the government issued a decree that the area in its entirety be used to establish a market square.
This was achieved in 1869 with a roof covering the market place.
In 1897 "In order to mark, in a fitting manner, the unprecedented and glorious reign of her majesty, the Queen" Council named the grand building the Queen Victoria Markets.
Today the QVB stands not only as a monument to Queen Victoria but also to the foresight of our early pioneers.

Zephaniah 2:1-2 “Gather together, gather yourselves together, you shameful nation, before God’s decree becomes reality and the day of opportunity disappears like windblown chaff, before the Lord’s raging anger overtakes you—before the day of the Lord's angry judgment overtakes you!”

Back. The fortress was finished in 1672 and formed a part of King Christian IV's plan for defense of Kristiansand when the city was founded in 1641. The architect of the fortress was quartermaster general Willem Coucheron. It was built on an islet, about 100 yards from shore. Today the fortress is connected to the mainland.
The only time the fortress has been in battle was against a British fleet force, led by HMS Spencer (1800) in 1807 during the Napoleonic Wars. One of the very few remaining larger warships under Danish-Norwegian command was the ship of the line HDMS Prinds Christian Frederik with 70 cannons that was in the eastern harbor of Kristiansand. Captain Stopford on board HMS Spencer ordered to sail toward the city and announced in a letter that he wanted to take over the HDMS Prinds Christian Fredrik, and threatened to open fire on the city if the ship were not disclosed. When the ships approached, they were met by fierce resistance from Christiansholm Fortress. The attack was repulsed by massive gunfire and the British sailed instead to the abandoned Fredriksholm Fortress, which was blown up and destroyed.
The fortress was decommissioned by royal decree during June 1872 as part of a major redevelopment of fortifications across the nation.
Today, Christiansholm is a tourist attraction by the Kristiansand Boardwalk and venue for a variety of cultural events and festivities. It is now owned by the municipality and is a site used principally for recreation and cultural events.

They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb."

Two blossoms twine in morning light,
Lavender blush in bokeh’s flight—
One stands firm with petals wide,
The other rests, its shape implied.
A carmine bar, a staminal flame,
Guarded gently in nature’s frame,
Leaf arms cradling with soft decree,
A hush between them, wild yet free.
No words exchanged, no struggle sought,
Just stillness in the dance they caught—
Companionship in blooming form,
Through shade and sun, through calm and storm.
So let me linger in this grace,
Where flowers teach a gentle pace—
Connection thrives in silent hue,
In green, in pink, in morning dew.

The inner courtyard of Museo de Arte de Querétaro (Museum of Art of Querétaro) Calle de Allende Sur No. 14.
The Querétaro Art Museum (MAQRO) was inaugurated on September 22, 1988 in the old San Agustín Cloister.
The museum offers a cultural space that has given rise to hundreds of exhibitions by national and international artists.
The museum building dates from the 18th century and in 1987 it was declared a Cultural Heritage by decree of former President Miguel de la Madrid.
It is located in the former convent of San Agustín, considered one of the most important baroque cloisters in America.
It was built between 1731 and 1743 under the supervision of Fray Luis Martínez Lucio.
Over time the building functioned as a House of Major Studies of the Agustina Province of San Nicolás de Tolentino de Michoacán, military barracks, hospital and federal palace, until it was finally restored and inaugurated as a museum on September 22, 1988.
The museum has fifteen exhibition halls where temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection are housed.
The museum divides its collection into five sections: Mannerism, Baroque, European painting, Academia de San Carlos, and temporary exhibitions.

Legend: King Trdat III imprisoned Gregory the Illuminator on the small hill of the Arax Valley in 288 and kept him there for 13 years in order to dissuade him from the Christian faith.
As the torture failed to bend him, he cured the king of a disfiguring skin disease, Trdat III and his family were baptized in 301 and decreed that the Armenians - as the first people in history - should adopt Christianity as their state religion.

Seen from the ferry to Pico, this waterfront lies in Matriz, the oldest part of the City of Horta on Faial Island in the Azores. The area was founded around 1467 by Joss d'Utra, son of Flemish pioneer Josse van Huerter, who originally brought Flemish settlers to the island. In 1498, King Manuel I of Portugal established the religious parish of Matriz do Santíssimo Salvador here by royal decree.
The tower visible just left of center in the photo marks the site of the original Catholic church, Matriz de São Salvador, inaugurated on June 28, 1514. This church was sacked in 1589 by British privateers and in 1597 burnt by English forces under Walter Raleigh, who burned many of the town’s religious sites. Reconstruction took place between 1607 and 1615, and in the early 18th century, the clock tower was added with a mechanism imported from England. Although the church was damaged by multiple earthquakes, it stood until 1825 when all but the clock tower was demolished. Today, the clock tower, Torre do Relógio, remains as a tribute to the early church and settlers.
Taken from the same vantage point of yesterday's post, but with a closer view.
The two dominant bell towers of this Basilica are 192 feet high (and the hill itself is already 1,300 feet in elevation!).
Visitors who climb the 178 steps to the top are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the countryside for miles around.
From Wikipedia:
"The Basilica and National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians at the Holy Hill is a Roman Catholic Marian shrine in Erin, Wisconsin, United States, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the venerated title Help of Christians.[2] The land and the shrine serves as a religious pilgrimage and attracts approximately 300,000 visitors each year.
Pope Benedict XVI raised the shrine to the status of Minor Basilica via Pontifical Decree on 11 July 2006."
Work was started on the Basilica in 1926 and it was completed in 1931.

The 5-story 55 meter high pagoda has long served as a city landmark and a center for spiritual and vibrant community life. On the 21st of each month, a large flea market (Kobo-san market) is held on the grounds of To-ji Temple, drawing vendors from all over Japan. Handicrafts, antique clothing and furniture, children's toys, plants and food are available in abundance.
To fulfill an Imperial decree to protect the city, To-ji temple was built in 796. In 823 it changed hands from the emperor to the Shingon sect of Buddhism's originator, Kobo Daishi. The lecture hall contains 21 striking mandala images which encode Shingon teachings, while the main hall of the temple contains a blend of Chinese, Indian, and Japanese architectural styles, as well as statues of healing Buddhas.

From the website: :https://cadw.gov.wales/visit/places-to-visit/st-davids-bishops-palace#overview
We visited September 2021 on a perfect day.
There was only one top job for an ambitious cleric in medieval Wales: Bishop of St Davids in Pembrokeshire.
A 12th-century pope had decreed that two trips to St Davids were equal to one to Rome – turning it into a centre of pilgrimage for the entire Western world. Thousands flocked to see the shrine of St David in the newly built cathedral.
But the bishop’s home was no match for this magnificence. Enter Henry de Gower. Between 1328 and 1347 he turned a building only fit for ‘servants and animals’ into an immense palace.
The east range was his private domain. The south range was for show and ceremony. It was here in the great hall that Bishop Henry dispensed justice, held feasts and welcomed distinguished pilgrims.
The Reformation marked the beginning of the end. In fact William Barlow, first Protestant Bishop of St Davids, may well have stripped the lead from the roofs himself to spark a slow decline. But even as a ruin this palace beside its glorious cathedral remains an awe-inspiring space.
The Great Conjunction
This truth is compounded by values and substitution.
Where only sufficient evidence is required to whitewash.
The murkiness of opportunity.
The opportunity to exploit.
As exploitation under the decree of God.
And all of it's manifested authority.
Of all deemed as privileged
Of those certified as intellectually right.
Justified and thankful.
Within our culture of law and order.

This building used to be a collegiate church that was given up by royal decree in 1735. No idea when it was built but it must have been medieval.

Domaine Solvay de La Hulpe which extends over 227 ha of greenery, woods and ponds, is bordered on its northern and western borders by the Sonian Forest and to the south by the Nysdam Nature Reserve, the largest in the Walloon Brabant.
Almost all types of vegetation and natural environments in the region are represented there. At the same time place of refuge, site of rest, feeding, reproduction, nesting and migratory stopover for avifauna, Domaine Solvay is perfectly suited to small and large mammals.
The Solvay park was first classified because of its aesthetic value by royal decree of June 10, 1963, then as a major heritage of Wallonia in 1993, and finally recently as a Natura 2000 site.
The richness of the park gives rise to numerous studies carried out by scientists from the National Botanical Garden of Belgium, the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, the Unit of Ecology and Biogeography of UCL ... is also regularly visited by associations of naturalists, ornithologists, entomologists, mycologists, ...
Must see: the cathedral beech grove, the belvedere, the rhododendron and azalea massifs, the forest valleys, the ponds, the French Garden, the remarkable trees (giant sequoia, 40 crown tree, Caucasian pterocayer, Virginia tulip tree , California tsuga, Oregon Douglas-fir, Japanese cryptomeria, ...), fauna (great crested grebe, common pochard, coot, barnacle geese, ...)

The Princesses rolled in just after 4 today and it's been a whirlwind of royal activity since, there was the feast to celebrate their arrival (pizza), tour of the grounds (playing in the backyard), wardrobe changes (princess gowns) and inspection of the infrastructure (playing at the park) before the Queen gave the royal decree of bed time and the princesses retreated to their chamber for the evening.
Needless to say, a good start to the weekend visit!
Hope everyone has had a good day.

The History of Mail and the Postal System
The history of using a mail service or courier service to pass messages from one person in one place to another person in another place has most likely been occurring since the invention of writing.
The first documented use of an organized courier service is in Egypt in 2400 B.C., where Pharaohs used couriers to send out decrees throughout the territory of the State. The earliest surviving piece of mail is also Egyptian, which dates back to 255 BC.
There is evidence of postal systems dating back to ancient Persia, China, India and Rome.
Today, the Universal Postal Union, established in 1874, includes 192 member countries and sets the rules for international mail exchanges.

... 1 km from the Aras River, which separates Armenia from Turkey. The Ararat massif is only 31 km away.

The New Castle in Ingolstadt is one of the most important Gothic secular buildings of the 15th Century in Bavaria. In the 1960s, it was re-established by Ministerial decree and the Bavarian Army Museum was opened in 1972.

"Blessed is that man who is done with chance, who never speaks of luck—but believes that from the least, even to the greatest, all things are ordained by the Lord. We dare not leave out the least event! The creeping of an aphid upon a rosebud is as surely arranged by the decree of Providence—as the march of a pestilence through a nation! Believe this, for if the least thing is omitted from the supreme government, so may the next be, and the next—until nothing is left in the divine hands. There is no place for chance, since God fills all things." Charles Spurgeon

The Louvre is a national art museum in Paris, France. It is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the city's 1st arrondissement and home to some of the most canonical works of Western art, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace, originally built in the late 12th to 13th century under Philip II. Remnants of the Medieval Louvre fortress are visible in the basement of the museum. Due to urban expansion, the fortress eventually lost its defensive function, and in 1546 Francis I converted it into the primary residence of the French Kings.
The building was extended many times to form the present Louvre Palace. In 1682, Louis XIV chose the Palace of Versailles for his household, leaving the Louvre primarily as a place to display the royal collection, including, from 1692, a collection of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture. In 1692, the building was occupied by the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres and the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, which in 1699 held the first of a series of salons. The Académie remained at the Louvre for 100 years. During the French Revolution, the National Assembly decreed that the Louvre should be used as a museum to display the nation's masterpieces.
The Musée du Louvre contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in eight curatorial departments with more than 60,600 square metres (652,000 sq ft) dedicated to the permanent collection. The Louvre exhibits sculptures, objects d'art, paintings, drawings, and archaeological finds. At any given point in time, approximately 38,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are being exhibited over an area of 72,735 square metres (782,910 sq ft). With over 7.8 million visitors in 2022, the Louvre is the world's most-visited museum.

Fifth in a series of six images of this iconic church.
Night had fallen and I was a mile away when I captured this shot with my telephoto lens.
The sparkly sky glowed with stars and a hint of blue light from a nearby town.
Ponte della Maddalena (Italian: "Bridge of Mary Magdalene") is a bridge crossing the Serchio river near the town of Borgo a Mozzano in the Italian province of Lucca. One of numerous medieval bridges known as Ponte del Diavolo, the "Bridge of the Devil", it was a vital river crossing on the Via Francigena, an early medieval road to Rome for those coming from France that was an important medieval pilgrimage route.
The bridge is a remarkable example of medieval engineering, probably commissioned by the Countess Matilda of Tuscany circa 1080-1100. It was renovated circa 1300 under the direction of Castruccio Castracani. The largest span is 37.8 m. The bridge is also described in a 14th-century novella by Giovanni Sercambi of Lucca.
Circa 1500 it took on the name of Ponte della Maddalena, from an oratory dedicated to Mary Magdalene, whose statue stood at the foot of the bridge on the eastern bank.
In 1670 the General Council of the Republic of Lucca issued a decree prohibiting passage over the bridge with millstones (ceppi) and sacks of flour in order to preserve the structure.
After the facial make-up, these boys don their costume and gears in preparation for an exciting night of 八家將 “Pat-Ka-Tsiong" (Taiwanese pronunciation) or "Ba Jia Jiang" (Mandarin pronunciation) performance.
Bajiajiang, usually translated as the ‘Eight Generals’. The eight members (almost always men) represent four ‘infernal generals’ plus the four seasonal gods of spring, summer, fall and winter. The vaguely menacing attitude they show when swaggering along the street is heightened by the ritual weapons they carry. Every aspect of their appearance is decreed by tradition, and their clothing and makeup is a photographer’s dream.
View of the salt marsh surrounding the island of Mont St Michel with the island of Tombelaine in the distance. Mont St Michel was once called Mont Tombe and Tombelaine might either mean âlittle mountâ or the tomb of St Helene.
History according to Wikipedia:
In the 11th century, two monks from Mont Saint-Michel were hermits on Tombelaine. In 1137 Bernard du Bec founded a priory on the island, and it became a place of pilgrimage.
On 11 February 1423, in the Hundred Years War, Tombelaine was occupied by the English as a base to attack Mont Saint-Michel. In the 16th-century French religious wars, Gabriel, comte de Montgomery, leader of the Huguenot armies, occupied the island.
In 1666 the marquis de la Chastrière ordered the destruction of the island's fortifications, in case they were again used by the English.
The island was purchased by the state in 1933, and was declared a historic monument by a decree of 1936.[3] It became a bird reserve in 1985.
