Amidst the Joychandi mountains' silent grace,
Bougainvillea blooms embrace,
Their vibrant hues a symphony,
Underneath the afternoon sun's decree,
Nature's canvas, a sight divine,
Mountains and flowers, in daylight's shine.
The decree of 18 November 1922 authorised the University of Paris to accept the donation from Émile Deutsch de la Meurthe and recognised the public utility of the foundation which was to bear his name and that of his wife. On Wednesday, May 9, 1923, the ceremony of the laying of the foundation stone took place.
The Émile and Louise Deutsch de la Meurthe Foundation comprises, around its central pavilion, its belfry and its clock, six residential buildings bearing the names of academics who held high administrative positions or scientists who honoured the University of Paris. Built by Lucien Bechmann in a traditional style reminiscent of English universities, the buildings, inaugurated in the spring of 1925, were the first to be built in the Cité universitaire.
The fortress was finished in 1672 and formed a part of King Christian IV's plan for defense of Kristiansand when the city was founded in 1641. The architect of the fortress was quartermaster general Willem Coucheron. It was built on an islet, about 100 yards from shore. Today the fortress is connected to the mainland.
The only time the fortress has been in battle was against a British fleet force, led by HMS Spencer (1800) in 1807 during the Napoleonic Wars. One of the very few remaining larger warships under Danish-Norwegian command was the ship of the line HDMS Prinds Christian Frederik with 70 cannons that was in the eastern harbor of Kristiansand. Captain Stopford on board HMS Spencer ordered to sail toward the city and announced in a letter that he wanted to take over the HDMS Prinds Christian Fredrik, and threatened to open fire on the city if the ship were not disclosed. When the ships approached, they were met by fierce resistance from Christiansholm Fortress. The attack was repulsed by massive gunfire and the British sailed instead to the abandoned Fredriksholm Fortress, which was blown up and destroyed.
The fortress was decommissioned by royal decree during June 1872 as part of a major redevelopment of fortifications across the nation.
Today, Christiansholm is a tourist attraction by the Kristiansand Boardwalk and venue for a variety of cultural events and festivities. It is now owned by the municipality and is a site used principally for recreation and cultural events.
Subo lejano de sus promesas. Mirando el rumbo de nubes y lejanas estrellas;
Light outputs between mountains and Inca trails.
Colors of orange blossom between mountains and Andean highlands.
Reflections of a city that is contemplated empty, between stone walls that construct the calendar of the sun.
Condor watching us at the top of the nameless city that binds us to her beauty; rocks cut by time and arranged in distant streets.
Sun worship and direction of the stroke in the stars.
A very high mountain silhouette drawn in our eyes.
Subo far from their promises. Looking at the course of clouds and distant stars;
The jungle around me prisoner between lace of trees and plants outside.
Caminos del Inca, roads and trails traveler who succumbs to her beauty.
Los Andes colorful and embrace me up.
Once at the top. I flooded surprises, hidden roads, marked trails, rain and sun and hiking tourists. Today I approach the sun, from Andean mountains.

Naghsh-e Jahan Square at Night
Design of the World! - 17th Century
Naghshe Jahan Square, Isfahan City, Isfahan Province, Iran
© Vafa Nematzadeh. All rights reserved. Thank you very much for your visits, faves and comments here.
Naghsh-e Jahan Square (Design of the World) situated at the center of Isfahan city, Iran. It is an important historical site and one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. The square is surrounded by buildings from the Safavid era.
The King Mosque is situated on the south side of this square. On the west side you can find Ali Qapu Palace. Sheikh Lotf Allah Mosque is situated on the eastern side of this square and the northern side opens into the Isfahan Grand Bazaar.
It was Shah Abbas the Great who made Isfahan his capital and then decreed that the square should be extended to its present size, and lovely buildings set around it. The length of this great square, which is actually rectangular, is 500 meters from north to south, and its width about 150 meters from east to west. It was laid out and beautified in the reign of Shah Abbas the Great, at the beginning of the seventeenth century.
From that time until sixty years ago the square presented a very different aspect from the square to day. The whole area of the square within the limits of the water channels round it was quite level, while to the north and south stood two goal posts for the game of polo. Those two goal posts are still in position but replanning with large pool in the center, and lower beds round has transformed the square and given it a completely new look. Most of the buildings round are two-storied and the alcoves simply decorated.

Dedicated follower of fashion
Style and fashion could be said to be two different things. Style is about knowing who you are and what you want. Fashion is about chasing the dreams and diktats of others. Which clothes to wear this season, what accessories to pair them with, the correct way to wear them, etc. Keeping up with the latest decrees of others can be confusing and ultimately pointless and most unsatisfying/unedifying.
As long as people are free to choose then surely that's fair enough.

Valle Crucis Abbey Ruin
Building work got underway in 1201. Eight centuries later and the abbey is one of the best preserved in Wales. Even the monks’ fishpond is still full of water!
From its cloister to chapter house, with striking rib-vaulted roof, this abbey was shaped by the devout nature of its inhabitants. The abbey was also remarkably self-sufficient thanks to the lay brethren. They were happy to leave the choir monks to their prayers while they got on with the job of tending the land. All friends together? Not quite. The monks observed their daily offices in the choir, separated by a screen from the lay brethren who worshipped in the nave of the abbey church.
Far from an easy life, Valle Crucis Abbey suffered a serious fire and numerous attacks but went on to earn a reputation for its appreciation of the literary arts. In 1535 it was ranked the second richest Cistercian monastery after Tintern. By this time, the Cistercians had relaxed their orthodox austerity. A comfortable heated suite was created for the abbot. This new found wealth and hospitality didn’t last long. Valle Crucis was duly dissolved by royal decree in 1537.

The Louvre or Louvre Museum is one of the world's largest and has nearly 35,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century, exhibited over an area of 60,600 square metres. With more than 9.7 million visitors each year, the Louvre is the world's most visited museum. The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre), originally built as a fortress in the late 12th century. During the French Revolution, the National Assembly decreed that the Louvre should be used as a museum to display the nation's masterpieces. It opened on 10 August 1793 with an exhibition of 537 paintings, the majority of the works being royal and confiscated church property.
The main square of San Carlos del Valle is an arcaded square in the town of San Carlos del Valle, in the province of Ciudad Real, Spain. It has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest.
The main square of San Carlos del Valle (1713-1729) belongs to the group of Castilian arcaded squares and buildings with wooden galleries, although this one is later than comparable examples in the area. The complex exhibits a unique urban layout, where the central point is the square, but before it there are other squares at two of its four entrances.
On the north side are the town hall and the school, with a single gallery. On the east side is the arcaded gallery with stone columns supporting two stories of wooden galleries. This is the longer side of the square, along with the west side, where there is no gallery, only a continuous balcony along one-third of its side; the rest is occupied by the Church of Cristo del Valle and the adjacent small square. The south façade, like the north, has only one story of wooden gallery. The walls are made of masonry tied with courses of brick, which even replace stone in the jambs of the openings. Most are plastered and painted white.
The east façade, which is the most representative on the ground floor, has a portico with columns, upon which rests a deep continuous beam, supporting wooden posts spaced 1.33 m apart, with three modules between each column. This rhythm is repeated on the second floor, where only the height varies. The modular pattern is only broken at one end of the plaza by a two-story building whose balcony overlooking the plaza disrupts the rhythm, giving it a richer and more random character, in keeping with the compositional flexibility of vernacular architecture.
The complex was declared a cultural asset, in the category of monument, on October 11, 1993, by means of a decree published on the 29th of that same month in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha (DOCM).

Luke 22:53 “Why didn’t you arrest me in the Temple? I was there every day. But this is your moment, the time when the power of darkness reigns.”
Daniel 9:27 “He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”

This is a glimpse of Huldra
We have trolls, hidden folks and other creatures in the Norwegian folklore
A hulder is a seductive forest creature found in Scandinavian folklore.
Associated with Christianity, a tale recounts how a woman had washed only half of her children when God came to her cottage; ashamed of the dirty ones, she hid them. God decreed that those she had hidden from him would be hidden from humanity; they became the hulders.
The hulders were held to be kind to charcoal burners, watching their charcoal kilns while they rested. Knowing that she would wake them if there were any problems, they were able to sleep, and in exchange they left provisions for her in a special place.

The sky was a tempest, bruised and wild,
A canvas torn by thunder’s child.
Winds howled truths I dared not face,
Each gust a ghost I could not chase.
But then—your voice, a quiet stream,
Soft as dusk in a fading dream.
No grand decree, no mighty spell,
Just words where gentleness chose to dwell.
You spoke of hope not yet undone,
Of battles lost, but not the sun.
And in your tone, the storm grew shy,
Its fury dimmed beneath your sigh.
The clouds, once clenched in wrathful fists,
Unfurled like petals softly kissed.
Lightning paused, as if to hear
The lullaby you drew so near.
Now twilight hums a softer tune,
The sky wears shades of silver moon.
And I, once wrecked by wind and rain,
Find peace within your sweet refrain.

Caldana, Gavorrano, Grosseto
The village of Caldana is part of the municipality of Gavorrano, province of Grosseto, and is located on the south-eastern plain of Monte Calvo at a height of m. 178 above sea level
The history of Caldana starts from the Middle Ages and documented information already traces its existence as a possession of the diocese of Roselle, which ceded the village to the monks of the nearby abbey of Sestinga; its original name was "Caldana di Ravi" as it is considered as a subsidiary of the nearby village of Ravi also placed in the municipality of Gavorrano. In the following centuries it was owned by the Pannocchieschi family after which it was annexed to the republic of Siena and other families in the area between the end of the sixteenth century and the second half of the seventeenth, including the Suarez, the Bichi and the Chigi. This latter family ceded Caldana to the Lorraines, decreeing their access to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
Caldana has very interesting monuments for a village of this size, such as the church of San Biagio, the current parish church, built in the 16th century on a probable 12th century medieval structure; the church is attributed to Antonio da Sangallo the Elder even if studies still to be verified attribute the temple to Michelangelo Buonarroti himself for some similarities with his own buildings and finds found in London at the National Gallery.
Caldana is however a pleasant place enclosed within its high medieval walls built in a quadrangular shape and with four imposing corner bastions.
Its village life is made up of 906 inhabitants but it is still a lively place full of initiatives especially in the summer when tourism fills its narrow alleys.

There are many extensive areas for mussel-farming, an integral part of activities here, and one that can be viewed as traditional. The activities of the local residents vary widely, owing to the closeness of the city of Trieste, and include the well-established service sector and industry. Also worthy of note are the area’s many sailing events, which draw considerable interest locally.
Miramare forms part of the Zone of Biological Protection (ZBP) ‘Miramare’, covered in a decree issued by the ministry responsible for fishing in 2003.
The existence of joint interests of both mussel-producers (in that their permitted areas fall under the ZBP) and individual fishermen operating under an umbrella consortium, implies the need to monitor the environmental conditions and resources together, as well as the need for drawing up plans for common
management.

Bolshoy Gostiny Dvor a monument of history and architecture of the 18th century, in the past - the central wholesale Gostiny Dvor, from the beginning of the 20th century - a department store. Architect Jean Baptiste Wallen-Delamot. It is under the protection of UNESCO. Located in the historical center of St. Petersburg, it occupies a quarter between Nevsky Prospekt (house number 35), Sadovaya Street, Lomonosov Street and Perinnaya Line. The building overlooks the lobby of the Gostiny Dvor metro station.
The commercial premises of the Gostiny Dvor are 13,000 m², while the area of the entire complex of buildings of the department store is 78,000м
The forerunner of this Gostiny Dvor was the Mytny Dvor near the Green Bridge by architect N.F. Gerbel. When it burned down in a fire in 1738, it was decided not to restore the old building, but to build a new Gostiny Dvor closer to the city border.
Gostiny Dvor was created as the largest retail space in the Russian Empire.
The history of its creation begins with the decree of Elizabeth (1748) on the construction of Gostiny Dvor on one floor in the cellars with galleries. In 1752, the building was conceived as a two-story building.
In the 1750s, Rinaldi's project was rejected.
In 1757, the Rastrelli project was approved. The construction was to be financed by merchants. In 1758, a decree was issued "on the construction of the stone Gostiny Dvor according to the plan of the chief architect Rastrelli"; the shops built by the merchants were commanded to give them into the eternal and hereditary possession .According to Rastrelli's project, the building was supposed to be richly decorated with stucco and sculptures and not be inferior to palaces in splendor. Work began in 1757, but funding issues dragged on, and the project was eventually revised.
Ultimately, Vallen-Delamot became the author of the Gostiny Dvor. He retained the general layout of Rastrelli and built the building in the early classicism style. Construction lasted over twenty years - from 1761 to 1785 .
In the 1840s, Gostiny Dvor became one of the first buildings where gas lighting was
Nevskaya line, view from the street
During the war, the building was badly damaged by bombing and shelling. The competition of projects for the restoration of Gostiny Dvor began to be held back in the blockade - in 1942. In 1945-1948, the Gostiny Dvor was restored.
The restoration of the building was carried out according to the project and under the guidance of the famous Leningrad architect O. L. Lyalin. The facades again took on a form close to Delamot's plan; a new pediment decorated with deep bas-reliefs was erected over the main portico. A linden alley was planted along the main facade along Nevsky Prospekt.
On October 14, 1948, by a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, Gostiny Dvor was recognized as an architectural monument subject to state protection.
In 1955-1967, a new reconstruction was carried out. Architects I. A. Vaks and L. S. Katonin and engineer M. I. Yunoshev (Lenproekt Institute) turned the previously isolated shops into a cross-section. 178 stores were replaced by a single department store "Gostiny Dvor" - the main department store in Leningrad. On November 3, 1967, a metro station was opened in the building. The ground lobby, built into the building of the department store, was designed by architects A.K. Andreev, Ya. E. Moskalenko, engineer S.P.Schukin. From the lobby you can get to the trading halls of the Nevskaya and Sadovaya lines. Above the escalator is a stained-glass window (artist A. L. Korolev), which depicts the shooting of the July 1917 demonstration at the intersection of Sadovaya Street and Nevsky.
Location of trading places along the lines. 1917
The line, near the Gostiny Dvors, is the same as the shopping mall in relation to a part of the market; a chain of trading places ("shops"), stretching in a straight line along the city passage or (in the case of an internal location) parallel to other lines. The names of the lines were given according to the type of goods offered in the corresponding malls, or by the names of the streets to which the given mall goes.
The building of Bolshoy Gostiny Dvor in St. Petersburg has four street facades of different lengths. In a clockwise listing:
Sadovaya street - the longest facade
Chernyshev Lane (now Lomonosov Street) - the shortest facade
Perinnaya Street (together with Dumskaya Street were considered two separate streets) - the second longest facade
Nevsky Prospect is the third longest facade
In addition to trading places located in lines along the facades of the historic building, as well as in its courtyard, as of 1917, the Bolshoi Gostiny Dvor also included lines located in buildings on the opposite side of the streets:
along Chernyshev Lane
along Dumskaya street in two parts, north and south
on Nevsky Prospect
This enumeration includes facades (lines):
buildings of Maly Gostiny Dvor on Chernyshev Lane and Dumskaya Street, which together with the facade along the Catherine Canal (now the Griboyedov Canal) made up the so-called furniture rows
the building of the City Duma at the corner of Nevsky and Dumskaya streets, where the so-called silver rows were located on the first floor.
As of 1917, the lines and independent trading rows of Gostiny Dvor, both in the main building and outside it, were called:
Mirror line (now Sadovaya line) - all rows along Sadovaya street
Bolshaya Surovskaya line (now Perinnaya line) - all rows of the main building facing Perinnaya street, and through it to Dumskaya (today both of them are considered to be sides of the same Dumskaya street)
Malaya Surovskaya Line (now Lomonosovskaya Line) - the rows of the main building facing Chernyshev Lane (now Lomonosov Street)
Banking Line (ceased to exist) - shopping arcade on the side of Chernyshev Lane opposite to the buildings of Bolshoy and Maly Gostiny Dvors, from Sadovaya Street to Ekaterininsky Canal
The line along Nevsky Prospekt (the current name is Nevskaya Line) - the historical name Sukonnaya Line was lost by 1916.

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
The University of Athens forms part of the so-called "Neoclassical Trilogy" of the City of Athens: Academy - University - Library. It consists of a group of built masses that shape up a double "T", with two symmetrical courtyards. The facade is strictly symmetrical to the arcade of rectangular pillars, set-off by an Ionian-style entrance. The bases of the columns and the capitals of the entrance are perfect replicas of the equivalent found in the Propylaea of Acropolis. The building follows the basic aesthetic rules of early Neoclassicism, while at the same time is adapted to the Greek Mediterranean climate. The outside statues complete the entrance's composition, that is evidently distinguished to "base," body" and "crowning" parts.
Today the building serves as headquarters of the University of Athens, housing the offices of the Rectorate, the Juridical Department, the Archives and the Ceremonial Hall for official ceremonies of national esteem that refer to the University community. By a ministerial decree of 1952, the building was identified as preserved monument "in need of special protection" according to the relevant 1950 Law.
At the Las Cuevas del Duque restaurant in Madrid.
The custom of Spanish restaurants hanging pork dates back to the Spanish Inquisition. In 1492, Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand issued royal decrees that pretty much gave all Jews and Muslims living in Spain three options: convert to Catholicism, leave the country or face burning at the stake. Thousands of them chose to leave the country but those who stayed had to prove somehow that they had truly converted to Catholicism. To do so, they were hanging pork legs in display so everyone could see that they were eating pork hence their religion had indeed changed. (theuijunkie.com/pork-legs-hanging-spain/)

IMG_2531r1 Bourges is a city in central France known for its half-timbered houses. The grand, Gothic-style Bourges Cathedral features 13th-century stained-glass windows. Close by, the ornate Jacques Coeur Palace was the home of a 15th-century nobleman.
During the Middle Ages Bourges served as the capital of the Viscounty of Bourges until 1101. In the fourteenth century it became the capital of the Duchy of Berry (established in 1360). The future king of France, Charles VII (r. 1422–1461), sought refuge there in the 1420s during the Hundred Years' War. His son, Louis XI, was born there in 1423. In 1438, Charles VII decreed the Pragmatic Sanction of Bourges. During this period, Bourges was a major centre of alchemy.
The Gothic Cathedral of Saint Etienne, begun at the end of the twelfth century, ranks as a World Heritage Site. It is considered one of the earliest examples of the High Gothic style of the thirteenth century.
The city has a long tradition of art and history. Apart from the cathedral, other sites of importance include the 15th-century Palace of Jacques Cœur and a sixty-five-hectare district of half-timbered houses and fine town-houses.

Ponte della Maddalena (Italian: "Bridge of Mary Magdalene") is a bridge crossing the Serchio river near the town of Borgo a Mozzano in the Italian province of Lucca. One of numerous medieval bridges known as Ponte del Diavolo, the "Bridge of the Devil", it was a vital river crossing on the Via Francigena, an early medieval road to Rome for those coming from France that was an important medieval pilgrimage route.
The bridge is a remarkable example of medieval engineering, probably commissioned by the Countess Matilda of Tuscany circa 1080-1100. It was renovated circa 1300 under the direction of Castruccio Castracani. The largest span is 37.8 m. The bridge is also described in a 14th-century novella by Giovanni Sercambi of Lucca.
Circa 1500 it took on the name of Ponte della Maddalena, from an oratory dedicated to Mary Magdalene, whose statue stood at the foot of the bridge on the eastern bank.
In 1670 the General Council of the Republic of Lucca issued a decree prohibiting passage over the bridge with millstones (ceppi) and sacks of flour in order to preserve the structure.

Bouwperiode: 2e kwart 18e eeuw

The museum façade
Completed in 1738, the former entrance gate to the Toulon Arsenal is a true architectural treasure. Standing 15 metres high, its monumental dimensions are perfectly balanced to protect the military port. It is overlooked by two statues representing the gods of war: Mars and Minerva.
The gate was listed in 1910, then moved 90° in 1976 to welcome visitors to the museum inaugurated in 1981. This impressive construction site remains etched in the memory of the people of Toulon, who never fail to recall this moment as an anecdote of the city.
Protected elements: The old Arsenal gate, reassembled in the museum: classified by decree of May 4, 1910
History: Statues of Jean Lange Maucord and Jean Michel Verdiguier.
Construction periods: 2nd quarter of the 18th century

Huntingtower Castle was built in stages from the 15th century by the Clan Ruthven family. It was known for several hundred years as the 'House (or 'Place') of Ruthven' or 'Ruthven Castle', or simply 'Ryffane', until the family was forfeited for the Gowrie Conspiracy in 1600 and the Ruthven name was suppressed by Act of Parliament.[1] As contemporary writers reported, the "prinsipall howse callyd Ryven is now callyd the Huntynge towre" and, "the House of Riven to be called Hunt towre."
Mary, Queen of Scots visited on 25 June and 16 September 1565.[3] Regent Morton made a progess in Fife in September 1575, and while he was at Ballinbreich Castle he was summoned to Huntingtower (Ruthven) to the christening of James Ruthven, the heir.
In the summer of 1582, the castle was occupied by the 4th Lord Ruthven, who was also the 1st Earl of Gowrie, and his family. Gowrie was involved in a plot to kidnap the young King James VI, son of Mary, Queen of Scots. During 1582 Gowrie and his associates seized the young king and held him prisoner for 10 months. This kidnapping is known as the 'Raid of Ruthven' and the Protestant conspirators behind it hoped to gain power through controlling the king. James eventually escaped and actually forgave Gowrie, but after a second abortive attempt by Gowrie and others to overthrow him, Gowrie was finally executed and his property (including Huntingtower) was forfeited to the crown.
Dorothea Stewart, Countess of Gowrie, was commanded to surrender Dirleton, "Ruthven", Cousland, and the Gowrie lodging in Perth to the crown in May 1584.[6] James VI and his young cousin Ludovic, Duke of Lennox stayed in the castle in September 1584, as a German traveller Lupold von Wedel noted.
The Castle and lands were restored to the Ruthven family in 1586. The king visited for a week in September 1587.[8] However in 1600, the brothers John and Alexander Ruthven were accused, some say falsely, of attempting to kidnap King James, and were killed in Gowrie House, the Ruthven home in Perth, by an overwhelming number of the king's armed men.[5] This time, the king was less merciful: as well as seizing the estates, he abolished the name of Ruthven and decreed that any successors would be ineligible to hold titles or lands. Thus the House of Ruthven ceased to exist and by royal proclamation the castle was renamed Huntingtower
The New Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral Nueva) is, together with the Old Cathedral, one of the two cathedrals of Salamanca, Spain. It was constructed between the 16th and 18th centuries in two styles: late Gothic and Baroque. Building began in 1513 and the cathedral was consecrated in 1733. It was commissioned by Ferdinand V of Castile of Spain. It was declared a national monument by royal decree in 1887. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Cathedral_of_Salamanca#cite_not...
A pond N 1 in the western part of Nyvky Park (the eastern part is located behind the railway tracks) formed by the almost disappeared Syrets River. This is one of the few parks in Kyiv that still preserve centuries-old trees on its territory.
The total area of the park is 60 hectares: the western part is 15 hectares, and the eastern part is 45 hectares. Until 1991, these were two different parks with their own history and characteristics.
In the 19th century, not far from the intersection of the Brest-Litovsk highway (Avenue today) there was a deep ravine where the Syrets River flowed. Near this place there were several farms, the territory of which was granted in 1859 by decree of Emperor Alexander II to the Kyiv Governor-General Illarion Vasilchikov.
The official built a two-story comfortable house on the received land, which was surrounded on all sides by forest, hayfields, as well as landscaped ponds, orchards and vegetable gardens. After Hilarion’s death, his wife, who was involved in charity, transferred this territory into the possession of the Holy Trinity Monastery.
The Soviet regime, which did not like religion, after the revolution of 1917 nationalized the possessions of the Holy Trinity Monastery, and in 1930 the top party leadership of Kyiv decided to settle here - the picturesque place was hidden from the eyes of ordinary people behind a high fence. Only in 1962 was the territory of the park returned to the city, and the fences were demolished and everyone began to be allowed here. Ten years later, the park received the status of a monument of landscape art. A network of pedestrian paths was laid here, and playgrounds and sports grounds were made.

The grave of our youth is up ahead
And life has become a burden
We move in circles of surpressed despair
Waiting for the sun
And turning stones to find evidence
But it hides in the recesses of our hearts
A written decree of our loss
And we carried no faith in the cross
And the cold years are coming
For the victims of a longing
Out through the doors of starvation
And into the rains of damnation
Where the bitter winds are singing
For the victims of a longing
We carried along through squalor
With an inborn need to dominate and possess
It gives birth to an anger inside
And we cant control this
The blood of departure in our tracks
Dripping from our emptying vessels
Your hand reached out to hold mine
But you’re grasping melting ice
Asleep in the rain
A child once again
And the ghost in my head
Has forgiven me
Lifted his curse upon me
Taken on a dull cloudy day this is the only Royal Harbour in the country here's why
In 1820 King George IV set off from Ramsgate with the Royal Squadron en route to Hanover. He was so impressed by the hospitality he received at the Kent port that he decreed it be declared a 'Royal Harbour' – a status that's unique in mainland Britain.
My Thanks to all who visit and comment it is appreciated

who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night,
who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—

The National Capitol of Colombia (in Spanish: Capitolio Nacional de Colombia) is the seat of the Congress of the Republic of Colombia, the highest Colombian legislative body. It is located south of Plaza de Bolívar, in the historic center of Bogota.
The capitol was originally designed by Thomas Reed at the request of President Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera, and was built between 1848 and 1926, several architects were in charge of the work. It is one of the most representative constructions of the architecture of Colombia and the neoclassical in the city. The work was declared National Monument by decree 1584 on August 11, 1975.

Last night, cycling through cold, dark Lairessestraat – if only I could repeat everything I babbled out then! Something like this: God, take me by Your hand, I shall follow You dutifully and not resist too much. I shall evade none of the tempests life has in store for me, I shall try to face it all as best I can. But now and then grant me a short respite. I shall never again assume, in my innocence, that any peace that comes my way will be eternal. I shall accept all the inevitable tumult and struggle. I delight in warmth and security, but I shall not rebel if I have to sufffer cold, should You so decree. I shall follow wherever Your hand leads me and shall try not to be afraid.

Lots of water on the way from Amsterdam to Haarlem, today and in the past. In the past even more so because the Haarlemmermeer (Haarlem Lake) was drained only in the middle of the nineteenth century and 't IJ was stll an open water connecting to the Zuyderzee/North Sea. Great sea storms and high water threatened the very walls and gates of Amsterdam and Leiden. Atter devastating storms in the '30s King William I in 1837 signed a decree to drain the Haarlemmermeer. Serious work wasn't done until the early 1850s, and the pictured Steam Pumping Station (1852) played an important part in the enterprise.
That Pumping Station was built right by the complex of sluices and locks that had functioned from the Middle Ages onward to control the waters between the Lake and 't IJ. Amsterdam and Haarlem were both important cities and people had to be able to travel the 15 km stretch safely and as quickly as possible. The dike road was slow and muddy, so it was decided in 1631/2 to dig a barge canal between the cities, the first such enterprise in the northern Low Countries. Halfway the canal encountered those sluices and locks, so passengers would have to disembark, walk across and board another barge on the other side. Soon inns, pubs and such arose to cater to people's needs. And that was the beginning of the town of Halfweg, about half-way between the two cities. The steam pumping station served until 1977 and its function was then taken over by a new, modern electrical unit at the Amerikahaven. It's now a working museum.
The pumps are in the building on the far left in the photo. Part of the complex - on the right - is now a restaurant and cafe.

Victoria Day (French: Fête de la Reine) is a federal Canadian statutory holiday observed on the Monday before May 25th each year.
Victoria Day is Canada's oldest non-religious holiday. It marks the birthday of Queen Victoria (1837-1901). Following the death of Queen Victoria, May 24th was decreed as Empire Day across the British Empire. Today, Canada is the only country who still has a holiday on the day.
