The National Capitol of Colombia (in Spanish: Capitolio Nacional de Colombia) is the seat of the Congress of the Republic of Colombia, the highest Colombian legislative body. It is located south of Plaza de Bolívar, in the historic center of Bogota.
The capitol was originally designed by Thomas Reed at the request of President Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera, and was built between 1848 and 1926, several architects were in charge of the work. It is one of the most representative constructions of the architecture of Colombia and the neoclassical in the city. The work was declared National Monument by decree 1584 on August 11, 1975.

Lots of water on the way from Amsterdam to Haarlem, today and in the past. In the past even more so because the Haarlemmermeer (Haarlem Lake) was drained only in the middle of the nineteenth century and 't IJ was stll an open water connecting to the Zuyderzee/North Sea. Great sea storms and high water threatened the very walls and gates of Amsterdam and Leiden. Atter devastating storms in the '30s King William I in 1837 signed a decree to drain the Haarlemmermeer. Serious work wasn't done until the early 1850s, and the pictured Steam Pumping Station (1852) played an important part in the enterprise.
That Pumping Station was built right by the complex of sluices and locks that had functioned from the Middle Ages onward to control the waters between the Lake and 't IJ. Amsterdam and Haarlem were both important cities and people had to be able to travel the 15 km stretch safely and as quickly as possible. The dike road was slow and muddy, so it was decided in 1631/2 to dig a barge canal between the cities, the first such enterprise in the northern Low Countries. Halfway the canal encountered those sluices and locks, so passengers would have to disembark, walk across and board another barge on the other side. Soon inns, pubs and such arose to cater to people's needs. And that was the beginning of the town of Halfweg, about half-way between the two cities. The steam pumping station served until 1977 and its function was then taken over by a new, modern electrical unit at the Amerikahaven. It's now a working museum.

This building used to be a collegiate church that was given up by royal decree in 1735. No idea when it was built but it must have been medieval.

There was only one top job for an ambitious cleric in medieval Wales: Bishop of St Davids in Pembrokeshire.
A 12th-century pope had decreed that two trips to St Davids were equal to one to Rome – turning it into a centre of pilgrimage for the entire Western world. Thousands flocked to see the shrine of St David in the newly built cathedral.
But the bishop’s home was no match for this magnificence. Enter Henry de Gower. Between 1328 and 1347 he turned a building only fit for ‘servants and animals’ into an immense palace.
The east range was his private domain. The south range was for show and ceremony. It was here in the great hall that Bishop Henry dispensed justice, held feasts and welcomed distinguished pilgrims.
The Reformation marked the beginning of the end. In fact William Barlow, first Protestant Bishop of St Davids, may well have stripped the lead from the roofs himself to spark a slow decline. But even as a ruin this palace beside its glorious cathedral remains an awe-inspiring space.

Burguete (Auritz en euskera y, de forma oficial, Auritz/Burguete) es un municipio español de la Comunidad Foral de Navarra, situado en la merindad de Sangüesa, en el partido judicial de Aoiz, en las comarca de Auñamendi y Pirineo Navarro y a 45 km de la capital de la comunidad, Pamplona.
Asentado sobre un antiguo camino la morfología de la villa queda caracterizada por la actual calle de San Nicolás; conocida en otras épocas como calle Única o avenida Roncesvalles y que corresponde a la actual N-135 (Pamplona - Valcarlos) es decir tiene una estructura de pueblo-calle.
La reparcelación medieval como pueblo-calle hacía que las casas en su origen estuvieran muy juntas separadas por los etxekartes o mokartes, no obstante el cambio de las condiciones de vida recientes ha hecho que la hoy calle San Nicolás muestre un juego de llenos y vacíos en contraste con su fuerte linealidad, reforzada además por los canales que la flanquean por los lados y suavizada por la ligera curva de su trazado.
La calle se puede dividir en dos partes caracterizada cada una por la tipología de sus edificios, la original que va de Oloriz a Aguio y la prolongación o ensanche de finales del XIX y principios del XX, que va de Espelosin a Errotaldea.
Mediante el Decreto Foral 98/2008, se declaró Bien de Interés Cultural el Conjunto Histórico de Auritz/Burguete, protegiendo así el buen estado de conservación de la trama urbana y sus peculiaridades edificatorias. Tras esta declaración el Ayuntamiento elaboró el correspondiente Plan Especial de Protección, que regula su conservación y mejora urbana; el Plan Especial de Protecciónb fue aprobado por acuerdo del Pleno del Ayuntamiento del 1 de febrero de 2011.
Burguete (Auritz in Basque and, officially, Auritz/Burguete) is a Spanish municipality in the Autonomous Community of Navarra, located in the Sangüesa merindad, in the Aoiz judicial district, in the Auñamendi and Navarrese Pyrenees region and 45 km from the capital of the community, Pamplona.

The New Jerusalem Monastery was founded in 1656 in Moscow by Patriarch Nikon. According to his plan, the monastery was to become the center of the Orthodox world. The building, located on the northeast outskirts of Toledo's historic center, most likely formed part of the almunia (fortress) built by Al-Mamun of Toledo, king of the Taifa of Toledo (1043-1075). Following the Christian conquest, the site was called the "royal almunia," which was still used in 1294, although by this time the Castilianization of the name "Huerta del Rey" (King's Garden) had taken hold. The name Galiana became popular from the 16th century onwards due to the disappearance of the authentic Galiana palaces, located in the Alficén complex next to the Alcázar.
During the Mudejar period, the north and south facades were rebuilt. According to Gómez-Moreno, at the beginning of the 20th century, when the building was in poor condition, the windows with lobed arches, the plasterwork of the framing—dating from the 14th century—and remains of paintings—which he considers to be earlier—were still visible in the rooms on the second floor. Casi una década después fue comprada por Beatriz de Silva, quien contrae matrimonio en 1397 con Alvar Pérez de Guzmán. Sería poco tiempo después cuando se acometió la segunda reforma del edificio, como atestiguan los escudos de Guzmán y Silva que figuraban en las yeserías.
Por las sucesivas herencias, la huerta se fraccionó en diversos propietarios. La mayor parte siguió perteneciendo a la familia Guzmán y Montijo, mientras que otras zonas pertenecían a la capilla de Santo Tomás y a la cofradía de la Santa Caridad. The Chemin du Roy is a historic road along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River in Quebec. The road begins in Repentigny and extends almost 280 kilometres (170 mi) eastward towards Quebec City. In 1706, the Conseil supérieur of New France decreed that a road be built to connect the settlements along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. Work began in 1731 and was completed in 1737. Upon completion, the Chemin du Roy was 7.4 metres (24 ft) wide, over 280 kilometres (170 mi) long, and crossed 37 seignories. The Chemin du Roy was the longest road in existence at the time north of Mexico.

We've had a cat door for many years, and have had many cats over those years. We've let them come and go as they please and that pleases them. Every now and then some feral cat, or a domestic belonging to a neighbor figures out how to come in. They'll partake of the food and usually depart without incident. This fellow has pretty much made our home his. Sleeps here most nights on that sofa back where this shot is taken. I have managed to catch him (while distracted at the food bowl) on several occasions, and petted him. He doesn't hiss or try to scratch. But he is extremely skittish and if I get within six or seven feet of him, he takes off. He's a nice enough fellow and we just coexist.
The wife says we should name him, but I have decreed that he shall be known as "Grey Cat" until such time as he cozies up to us and earns a real name. I don't think he gives a damn.
Offenburg the largest city and administrative capital the Baden-Württemberg region of Germany.

The New Jerusalem Monastery was founded in 1656 in Moscow by Patriarch Nikon. According to his plan, the monastery was to become the center of the Orthodox world. The terms of the surrender, expressed in the Alhambra Decree treaty, explicitly allowed the Muslim inhabitants, known as mudéjares, to continue unmolested in the practice of their faith and customs. By 1499, however, Cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros grew frustrated with the slow pace of the efforts of the first archbishop of Granada, Hernando de Talavera, to convert non-Christians and undertook a program of forced baptisms, creating the converso (convert) class for Muslims and Jews. Cisneros's new strategy, which was a direct violation of the terms of the treaty, provoked the Rebellion of the Alpujarras (1499–1501) centered in the rural Alpujarras region southeast of the city.

Under the 1492 Alhambra Decree, Spain's Jewish population, unlike the Muslims, had already been forced to convert (the so-called conversos) under threat of expulsion or even execution. Many of the elite Muslim class subsequently emigrated to North Africa.
The majority of the Granada's mudéjares converted (becoming the so-called moriscos or Moorish) so that they could stay. Both populations of converts were subject to persecution, execution, or exile, and each had cells that practiced their original religion in secrecy (the so-called marranos in the case of the conversos accused of the charge of crypto-Judaism).
Over the course of the 16th century, Granada took on an ever more Catholic and Castilian character,[citation needed] as immigrants came to the city from other parts of the Iberian Peninsula.
The city's mosques were converted to Christian churches or completely destroyed.[citation needed] After the 1492 Alhambra decree, which resulted in the majority of Granada's Jewish population being expelled, the Jewish quarter (ghetto) was demolished to make way for new Catholic and Castilian institutions and uses.
During the 17th century, despite the importance of immigration, the population of the city stagnated at about 55,000, contrary to the trend of population increase experienced in the rural areas of the Kingdom of Granada, where the hammer of depopulation caused by the expulsion of the moriscos had taken a far greater toll in the previous century. By a decree of King Nicholas I of Montenegro, the Lower State Gymnasium was established in 1907, in Podgorica. Its higher grades have been opened in 1914 and 1915. During the occupation of Montenegro by the Austro-Hungarian forces, between 1916 and 1918, the school was closed.
After the First World War, the Gymnasium was reopened. The Great Gymnasium of Podgorica was established on February 12, 1919, following a decree signed by the Executive Committee of the Podgorica assembly.

Legend: King Trdat III imprisoned Gregory the Illuminator on the small hill of the Arax Valley in 288 and kept him there for 13 years in order to dissuade him from the Christian faith.
As the torture failed to bend him, he cured the king of a disfiguring skin disease, Trdat III and his family were baptized in 301 and decreed that the Armenians - as the first people in history - should adopt Christianity as their state religion.

Estas fotografías son de Mayo del 2020 y corresponden a la serie denominada "Paseos Constitucionales". En realidad eran paseos en contra del decreto del gobierno para que no nos desplazáramos libremente fuera del domicilio. El decreto era anticonstitucional. Los golfos del Tribunal Constitucional tardaron dos años en "descubrirlo". Leyendo el decreto cuando se publico se sabia que aquello no se ajustaba a la Constitución vigente.
Y algún intercambio de opinión sobre el tema hubo con algún agente policial con exceso de celo.
Y, claramente, si el general Franco no me arresto nunca en el domicilio no se lo iba a permitir a esta panda de chapuceros incompetentes. Esta es la historia.
These photographs are from May 2020 and correspond to the series called "Constitutional Walks". In reality, they were walks against the government decree so that we would not move freely outside the home. The decree was unconstitutional. The gulfs of the Constitutional Court took two years to "discover it". Reading the decree when it was published, it was known that it did not conform to the current Constitution.
And there was some exchange of opinion on the subject with some overzealous police officer.
And, clearly, if General Franco never arrested me at home, he was not going to allow this bunch of incompetent bunglers. This is the story.
Folk ensemble in Sedniv (Chernihiv region, Ukraine)
The Lyzogubs’ estate in Sedniv
Starting from the second half of the 17 th century Sedniv was the place where large landowners the Lyzogubs arranged their main manor. The members of this glorious Ukrainian Cossack family played a significant role in the history and culture of Ukraine.
In 1687 Hetman Ivan Mazepa, designated Jacob Lyzogub the Chernigov colonel. In 1689 Mazepa endowed him richly with lands near Chernigov, including Sednev for his participation in the Crimean campaign. Son of Jacob Lyzogub, Efim was the Chernihiv colonel as well. In 1690 he began the construction of ancestral estate in Sedniv. On the right high bank of the Snov river he managed to lay a large park, build wooden residential buildings, stone building and the Resurrection church as the family burial vault.
The following generations of the Lyzogubs were all the militaries. In the first half of the 19th century one of five brothers Lyzogubs Andrei Ivanovich (1804-1864) retired and settled for good in Sedniv at the age of twenty-five years. He was joined by his brother, Ilya Ivanovich (1787-1867) – a retired colonel, a participant of the war with Napoleon and Alexander Ivanovich (1790-1839) – major general. The old building proved to be rather small. The estate was expanded along the mountain over again. The brothers turned the family homestead in the picturesque architectural ensemble. They attached a tower in a pseudogothic style to the old Cossack stone building and on the flank of the hill above the Snov river there was placed a gazebo.
To unite old and new territories of the estate the old rampart of the ancient settlement of Snov was cut through and a small bridge was spanned over the moat.
Park of the new estate acquired the romantic features according to the fashion trends of that time. Scenic views and the rampart proved very handy. In the end of the rampart that is on a steep slope at the river, a typical for romantic parks mysterious grotto with an entrance was embedded right in the ground. It was once decorated with local river mussels like the “sea bed” . Circular hole was in the ceiling, and a small window that overlooked the Snov river. By efforts of Ilya Ivanovich there were installed fountains in the park. One of them, called “Getman”, spurted higher than the famous “Samson” in Peterhof.
In the mid of th 19th century in the middle of the park there was built an U-shaped the Lyzogubs’ large house in the style of late classicism in place of the old wooden one.
The manor house is a one-storey building that bears typical features of eclectic architecture. It has two projection in the facade on both sides and a semicircular oriel in the center of the fasade that is turned to the river and fine detail decoration. House is placed parallelly to the slope.
All the buildings in the estate seemed to stress the attractiveness of the landscapes that was greatly admired by the owners: the tower over the entrance to Cossack stone building, the grotto, the oriel and white-column rotunda are oriented to the east overlooking the river.
Unfortunately, the park is now neglected. The slopes are so overgrown that one can hardly see the scenery across the river. There are age-old chestnuts, oaks, maples, which remember many guests of the Lyzogubs.
And among them were artists L. Zhemchuzhnikov and A. Slastion, writers L. Glebov and B. Grinchenko. There is still a lime tree in the park in the shade of which Taras Shevchenko liked to have a rest during his visits to Sedniv.
The Lizogubs themselves were rather talented human beings. Thus Alexander Lyzogub is known as the Ukrainian composer, one of the founders of Ukrainian piano music. He was the author of nocturnes, mazurkas, ballads, and variations on the theme of Ukrainian folk songs.
Ilya Ivanovich was keen on music as well. Mykola Markevych characterized him as: “A wonderful musician, a pianist, cellist, singer and composer, a good painter, a person keen on hydraulics. He decorates Sedniv with parks and fountains and lives quietly, modestly, but as an aristocrat.” The younger brother of Andrei Ivanovich was fond of painting and painted a few icons for the iconostasis of the Resurrection church.
In November 2009 President of Ukraine issued the decree to establish State Historical and National Preserve “The Lyzogubs’ Estate” in Sedniv.
The New Castle in Ingolstadt is one of the most important Gothic secular buildings of the 15th Century in Bavaria. In the 1960s, it was re-established by Ministerial decree and the Bavarian Army Museum was opened in 1972.

In the 19th century, not far from the intersection of the Brest-Litovsk highway (Avenue today) there was a deep ravine where the Syrets River flowed.
