In the evening of the 5th of December German children put
their boots in front of the door. St. Nikolaus fills them with little presents and sweets during the night.
The Ritter Sport XL is too large for the boot …
One foggy Saturday in December 2013.
Taken with Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic SP F camera and SMC Takumar 50mm F1.4, on expired Kodak Professional T400 CN film, pulled to 125 ASA.
Scanned with Canon CanoScan 8800F, with VueScan.
Shot taken in Denmark 19 December 2009. Was driving in my car a very cold day, and had to stop and shoot this scenario as the sun went down.. It just all worked together to produce this warm shot, allthough it was one of the coldest days so far in 2009. Shot with Nikon D3 with Nikon 24-70mm 2.8..
Comments always appreciated, as long as you keep it clean - I love to hear your feedback! xx
December was a bitterweet month at LFF. Sadly our starting venue, the Marriott, is no longer available to us as it's being turned into an Italian restaurant.
THe Marriott has been a brilliant start venue for the last year and a bit and it's sad to have to move, but we got a professional photographer in to take some photos of the last one, and some incredible group photos outside the Marriott which just go to show what an amazing event Leeds First Friday is.
We helped another newbie on her first time out - Carla. And I met up with my friend Beth - Beth helped me out the first time I ever went, and she doesn't get out much so it was amazing to see her again. And bumped into lots of friends old and new.
All in all, a great night!
Pictures from the new venue, The End which is a great place. We really liked it in there.
The craziest thing happened today... it RAINED. In December. In Minneapolis. And not just a little drizzle, but it freakin' poured and melted a ton of the snow and it was a total mess on the streets. While out in the slushy city making repeated attempts to keep my feet dry, I met up with a few friends. First Kyle and I had lunch at Salut while dodging the rain in total denial with no umbrellas, and then later I met up with Amber, over at Urban Bean Coffee (seen above out of focus) before running about seven gazillion errands all over the wet, sloppy city. Amber is yet another person who I've "known" on the internet for a while (via twitter and her blog), but just met in person today. It is truly stunning to me how many amazing people I've met in the last two years due to this whole big Internet phenomenon, and none of them are axe murderers! (That I know of. Yet.)
*Also, I wanted to let y'all know that I finally had to turn off commenting on this blog permenantly. The spammers have got my number, and I'm getting up to 500 spam comments PER DAY -- just managing that is entirely too much work. So please feel free to shoot me an email at leslie [at] shuttersmack [dot] com if you have any comments or questions...
Giant Orchid (Himantoglossum robertianum). Many plants had leaves, but only few spicimens had flower spikes. This one had first flowers emerging. Taken near Cuevas del Drach, Majorca, Balearic Islands, Spain
This time, I took a walk with a brand-spanking-new camera, at least new to me - Olympus OM-10. That's a pretty nice, easy-to-use, aperture-priority camera (at least without the manual adapter), with a nice, big, clean viewfinder. I quite like it! I went through nearby Bundek park, despite the usual, dull December weather and closed cafes due to the pandemic, there were quite a lot of people out there!
Taken with Olympus OM-10 film camera, with Olympus OM Zuiko 50mm F1.8 lens, on Agfa Vista+ 200 film. 1/125 exposure, wide-open at ƒ/1.8, 200 ASA. Not really sharp, with a characteristic vintage-lens glow.
Scanned with Plustek OpticFilm 8100 dedicated film scanner.

every minute of every day life is waiting for you
This is more how I wanted to spend my New Years Eve.... I can't get in to my abandoned, snow here has overcome, and transcended the path I know. I'm still cold and shivering from my adventure to the abandoned truck.
The driveway full of snow, and I'm sure the house itself longing for company, as am I aching to dance!
Thank you all so very much for coming, for showing up.
For sharing, for caring!
I have had the most amazing week of my life.
People I hardly know, and friends I adore have written such beautiful touching tributes, emails, an invite to Getty,
an interview "here"
Thank you for the beautiful angel who is always with me, my beautiful mother, always in my heart ~mom. A word synonymous of so many things.

First round of a bit of snow, not deep but temperatures pretty chilly
Outside my front window on December 1st! A couple of houses nearby already have their holiday lights up and their inflatable snowmen going. I much prefer having the roses, and the light rain, than the cold and snow that's headed our way...
Realizing I'm a year and a half behind on posting pics, I'm going to try posting by month, and play a bit of catch up. Presenting December of '16.

A tree that I keep taking pictures off. I love its rough bark, the moss on its old branches and how it casts a shadow.

I went to Kohler-Andrae State Park Sunday afternoon. The air was Spring-like and the clouds fantastic. The first two in the series were taken along the beach and the third on the bridge in Black River marsh.
December, hideg e dombos erdős vidék, szép és természetes burjánzó lét, terebély
Télen is adja természetét, fojtja a város, de rá ez mit sem ér,
Örök világ, ősi a tetmészet, mely adja, szép a lét itt, természetes kaltka
Marad e park, szép és gyönyörű, London egy ékszere, de sajnos rezervátuma.
Hampsted Heath ad boldog órákat, időket a belé térőknek, csendes, nyugosztató világ
Minden falevél, ág, virág vágyódóan néz reád, szeret, kér, tündököl benned a magány
Hív, szeret, karol, ölel, tova vár, szemed tükre boldogság, néz, a sok falevél intve vár
Odaát minden halott, száraz épületek, romok, fekélyes roncs pusztaság.
Maradj,a pusztaság züld múló halál, vakító fény, napsugár, tündöklő hajnali harmatcsillogás...
... vár...
... minden vár, de nem a tiéd, sosem már, enyészet ette éned már, elpusztultál...
...csak a lelked maradt csupán...
Hah... az sem a tiéd.Kaptad csupán, mely lelketlen ajándék...

December was full and busy. Along with the holidays I had the press of photography jobs done for the holidays, much of which I didn't put into my photostream. It was very holiday centered, and rather pedestrian.
But I made a fabulous new friend in Sara Camp, and I included other friends throughout my 365 project. I had considered stopping my 365 project now, having completed three years of non-stop self portraits. But I cannot. Many friends look forward to participating in the craziness, I'm indeed fortunate to have Kim, Liz, Mindy, Misty, Lisa, Sara and my own daughter Mim to help spur me on with this project. I will continue it into 2014.
In December I made it out of the studio when I was able, but the shorter days and my regular work made available light scarce. So much of the project occurred within the confines of the studio. I suppose that's OK, we are used to it at least. I tried to make the images as varied as possible with that typical Studio d'Xavier edge. In 2014, I hope to define that edge even more.

Mom and I found this weird little doll for $1... It was a $1 well spent, she cracks me up.
Happy Sunday Guys!
I was going to give this a creative title, then I remembered that dogs are only capable of a certain amount of creativity and typing skill.

Modern energy - but the light shines soft through the tender clouds at the sky. This December is so different to the former years... so warm and without snow. Climate change? Mankind is at a point of decision.

December means holidays but in SoCal, it also means we get a few days of rain. I enjoy capturing pics in the rain. The color is so rich and beautiful. Happy December!
