The sun quickly sinks toward the horizon in Wisconsin during December. Sunset would be at 4:22 PM on this day after Christmas, just 2 minutes longer than the shortest day of the year.
The thaw had modestly begun--at least it was not so cold that I had to leave my camera inside. I do like shadows on the snow.

Late December in the high country. Winter has come to stay.

Now that the sun is too low to get above the mountains the skies are typically pink during the daylight hours.

Year end.
Not a recent photo, but one revisited. December exploded with so much to do, photography had to take a back seat. I'm going back through some of my favorite images that didn't make the cut for my 365 Project and fill in some of the blanks for the month.
Happy New Year, everyone!

It's a little too cold for Tigs to enjoy outside time now, but he still insists on a few minutes of open window time after work for some crisp fresh air.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Benni and I went to Roger's Gardens yesterday morning to get photos for a Christmas card. Poor Benni had to wear an elf suit for part of time but she's a good sport and I did get a few photos of her which I'll share later.
This photo is from one of the three rooms full of decorated Christmas trees where you can buy the ornaments right from the trees. Early visits are better!
Kerri made me do this - Daily Puppy recycled Benni's, 5 years ago, puppy posting today. It shows baby Benni. www.dailypuppy.com/puppies/benni-the-labradoodle_2015-12-01
Scott and I were doing some test shots before a family photo session later in the day, I thought this one was a bit amusing so I figured it would be a great choice for my photo of the day.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

In December the sun rises over Llan Ffestiniog and as it comes over the horizon shines directly into Cwmorthin lighting up Tai Llyn and the chapel with a light that makes you just glad to be alive in that moment. Sometimes there is a fog over Manod and the silence is just overwhelming.
Nature's decoration for the festive season!
Captured in a park two blocks away from our home...
Enjoy.
December is the most unpredictable month of the year. It can't make up its mind to be autumn or to embrace winter. It's also the month of my birth, which definitely explains a lot.

Clouds, clouds and more clouds pretty much describe 90% of November and December in the Upper Peninsula. Sometimes it only takes a minute of good light and that's just about what I had on this WC GBSOA screeching around a tight curve east of Engadine. 3021, 1752 and 6639 have 66 cars eastbound on December 5, 1997. Fresh snow was coating everything and I hardly ever mess with a zoom lens but I did just for the hell of it on this day, besides nothing else had a hope of working!
