"Then the soul, freed from vice, purged by studies of true philosophy, versed in spiritual life, and practised in matters of the intellect, devoted to the contemplation of her own substance, as if awakened from deepest sleep, opens those eyes which all possess but few use, and sees in herself a ray of that light which is the true image of the angelic beauty communicated to her, and of which she then communicates a faint shadow to the body."

On a freezing December night, we had the most beautiful clear sky and a rather eerie mist rolling through the valley in front of the house. Usually I tend to avoid the moon in favour of the stars but that night the moon just seemed perfect. So here it is in its Waning Gibbous phase. More moon shots to come no doubt!

A sudden break in the clouds allowed a burst of sunlight through on an otherwise dark and very unsettled day at the Roaches in Staffordshire. Days of rain meant that Tittesworth reservoir was already full to the brim.

Out of probably 100,000 slides I shot over the years this is one of my favorites for a number of reasons. This is train 911 at Garnet in December 1985. After the COFC business was rerouted across lower MI in August 85 trains 909/910 were annulled east of Gladstone and trains 911/912 had there schedule changed so that 912 passed through Trout Lake about 5AM and 911 would be called a Soo Yard on that crews rest. Normally 911 wouldn't depart Soo Yard until nearly dark, especially in the short daylight winter days. That effectively eliminated most of my local photography. Anyway for some reason this 911 fell way off schedule and it departed Trout Lake at about 1PM and I was able to shoot it multiple times as it worked west. There were a ton of clouds around and the sun was in and out like crazy but everything really came together in my mind on this shot at Garnet as a pair of SD's lead a GP38-2 and 55 cars west at 40mph. Next day back to the same schedule and most of my winters photography was over in the Trout Lake area. You have to love the Soo colors in the snow and the sweet December light!

Today is the 21st so it's time to take another picture of the house in my year-long project. Two more months to go and the project will be over so I'll have to think of something else.

This is a view of our house from just down the road to the west. The top row is winter, from 21 December 2018 to 21 February 2019; the second row from the top is spring from 21 March 2019 to 21 May 2019; the second row from the bottom is summer from 21 June 2019 to 21 August 2019; and the bottom row is fall, with only one picture so far, 21 September 2019

A combination of foul weather and being under the weather foiled our Christmas travel plans. The result had me at home on Christmas Eve when L517 showed up running late by about 6 hours. I motivated myself to get out and record the train starting to do its work at the autoport. Any shortcomings of the beat up lead unit was weighed against the fresh snow and blue bird day.

A no show sunrise between Christmas and New Year, and despite the promising forecast, this was as much of a glimpse of the sun as I got!!

This is 1 of 5 December Moths attracted to the garden moth trap on 17 November. One of the very last moth species I see each year in the garden, and clearly adapted to fly and survive in cold weather!

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

Did I overdo it? Probably! Do I care? Nope, it's bokeh season!!

Hope everyone is doing well.

I was getting in my car on way somewhere else, when I noticed how awesome the sky was yesterday. So I ran back inside and grabbed my camera. I'm glad I did. This sunset did not disappoint.

December scene from North Interstate 15 taken a couple of years ago. An old barn in a farm from a distance and part of the Wasatch Mountain range.

I'm relieved you're so grown:)

I know this looks like a summer shot but it was taken today (Christmas day) and the temp was close to freezing! I picked the daisies and placed them on a mossy rock and shot into the sunset.
