the outskirts of my small town and the forest, the snow that fell on December 24, has melted by today

And from this morning, a rather amazing sky. I was so tempted -when I woke up in the dark - to roll over and go back to sleep, but forced myself to get out of bed and go and do what I knew I would enjoy once I got there! I'm not good at leaving the house without breakfast - and time runs away with me if I'm not careful, but I did manage to get to the coast path about half an hour before the sun came up. My sunrise photos are not worth sharing, but I like the simplicity of this, from a little bit later on.

There's an old saying; "when gorse is out of blossom, kissing's out of fashion". For many years now I have endeavoured to photograph Irish gorse in flower every month of the year. but always fell short. Well not this year - finally I have succeeded in my quest. Happy Friday Flora!

We have 2 species of gorse in Ireland; Ulex europaeus (Common gorse) which is this plant. It flowers in hedgerows from late autumn through to late spring, generally tailing off in June, and Ulex gallii (Western or dwarf gorse) which typically flowers in late summer, alongside heather, on mountainsides. No coconut smell to those flowers.

Taken for my Flickr group www.flickr.com/groups/gorgeous_golden_gorse/ new members very welcome.

DECEMBER winter 2024

Temperature set to reach 35ºC today (15 December 2025), because the wind is from the northwest.

When you left I swore I'd never cry

but pride has a way of making you lie.

All I know is there's nothing I

wouldn't give to hold you tonight.

I've heard it said, time heals all wounds

but time doesn't own enough suns or moons.

December rain chills my skin.

I stray into the night and light a cigarette again.

Chorus:

December rain won't ease the pain.

Precious memories drive me insane.

Nothing to lose nothing to gain.

Drowning my dreams in December rain.

I had my heart broke once before

so I sore I'd never fall in love anymore.

My eyes met yours, lord, I tried not to fall

but I fell in love you after all.

Chorus:

December rain won't ease the pain.

Precious memories drive me insane.

Nothing to lose nothing to gain.

Drowning my dreams in December rain.

Bridge:

You loved me! I still remember

making love sweat and tender.

How can you say it wasn't meant to be

when I love you and you love me?

Chorus:

December rain won't ease the pain.

Precious memories drive me insane.

Nothing to lose nothing to gain.

Drowning my dreams in December rain.

Stag in Richmond Park

I headed out to the Lakeshore this morning and made stops in St. Joseph (where this is taken) and South Haven.

St. Joe's definitely had the better waves ... but it was an absolute bear to work here. You had to snap photos in the minute or two between snow squalls (where visibility would drop to zero and you'd be pelted by ice pellets driven by 40mph winds).
