Länsiväylä, Espoo-Helsinki’s iconic arterial road, comes alive in this serene winter capture. As the city’s rhythm unfolds, the fleeting movement of cars against the pastel winter sky tells a story of modernity intersecting with nature.

Jakarta's famous bajaj transport vehicle -- these little things somehow work (producing rather intoxicating fumes along the way).
Looks like someone was having target practice, with all the clouds shooting straight up like mushroom clouds from distant artillery shells. If you visualize the random crossing clouds as they would look from above, it's not hard to imagine someone is closing in on the coordinates..
These clouds form and then rise up so fast that they are stretched thin in the middle, like fluffy taffy. Then they bump up against the stratosphere and spread out, ripped by the prevailing winds as if the gods are blowing the foam off the top of a mug of beer..
Na zdravi, my friends!
Tis better to drink with the gods, than to stand in their way..
The drive home was LONG.
So, I tried to make it interesting by snapping a photo every time I stopped - whether it was stuck in traffic or at a red light. There were a ton of red lights today, so I got plenty of photos. Kris was out of the office today - we work together - so we were not carpooling. He would have never allowed photography if he had been in the car.
Don't worry - I used the self-timer and I was safe. (View Larger)
Saving grace for this bad week: wearing a handknit item every day to work. Today's choice was my Cherie pullover. It was perfect because it is finally getting chilly. (Wednesday's choice was Sesame, Thursdays was my Verona, and other days were all socks)

Where I’m from, travel is by car and without one you’re staying home for the day. Besides small cul-de-sac’s and riding in back parking lots, bikes weren’t a popular image. When I first arrived in Savannah, I was greeted by herds of bikes traveling in every direction. After four years, I’ve come to realize that not only are bikes a primary source for transportation, but they also have their own colorful personalities - just like their owners. Whether a person rides their bike for fun or exercise or just to get to point B, each biker user is wonderfully unique and this series is meant to embrace that.

Long rays of evening spring sunshine bathe deserted Sallins & Naas station between trains. Country commuter stations nowdays are usually unmanned, leading to long calm periods of serene quiteness, slowly one by one passengers emerge from the shadows for the expectant train, the hustle briefly increases and then after the train departs it's back to the calm, birdsong and wheeling resident jackdaws.
Here's a brief cameo of activity i did at the time.

Sallins station was opened as part of the Dublin - Cork route in 1846, The former junction station closed to passengers in 1963, but was reopened as a commuter station in 1994.

[b&w week oct 2016, picture 1/7]
Starting a black&white week, posting both here and to the facebook.
I still enjoy riding my bicycle to work every morning. Now in Vienna the scenery is of course different, but still very enjoyable and refreshing. And being two on the bike (I bring my son to kindergarden almost every day) makes the ride much more interesting: "37, 38, 39, ... Papa, what comes after 39?", Me: "40", "Ah, 40, 41, 42, ..."
