I did have what I thought was a decent build to accompany them, but the actual photography was very difficult. For now, at least, here's the figures.
Daddy II, our backyard male Eastern Bluebird. Late last summer a cat killed Mama II. Daddy has found a new mate, appropriately named Mama III, and this warm Feb. weather has them checking out the nestbox daily. Looking forward to some little blue eggs in about a month.
Just watched a huge Eurasian Collared-dove land on a feeder staff in the back yard. Daddy did a body-slam on his head. Knocked him off the staff and he didn't return. Dynamite comes in small packages.

This picture of Mom and Daddy was taken sometime in the 1970s. Today would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Oh, how I wish Mom was here now. Daddy was transferred to a nursing home yesterday. I know they will be able to care for his needs. Everything went well until I started to leave. He thought he was going home with me. I hope this is a temporary situation and he recovers enough to return to my house soon. I will try to be back to flickr on a regular basis in a few days.

Today would have been Daddy's 90th birthday. I miss him so much. He was such a big part of my life. Sometimes I can't believe he is gone. Our little family is meeting at his house today. Since you couldn't be there for Daddy's funeral service, I want to share it with you here.
When I stood to speak at the cemetery the day he was laid to rest, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to make it all the way through. My hands were trembling and my mouth was dry. Daddy and Mom believed we preach our own funeral by our deeds while we are living so there would be no preacher’s sermon just as there had been none at the funeral home the previous evening. I have no doubt we surprised a few people in Rose Hill twelve years ago with Mom’s funeral. It was probably the first time some of them had ever attended a funeral where no minister officiated.
At Daddy’s service on Sunday evening, my cousin, LaVerne Brown, read the obituary then my son, Jim, got up to speak. He told about the songs Daddy would listen to when he stayed with Jim. The first song in the playlist was “Rank Stranger” and it was the words to that song that had fallen out of the Fairview Trio’s songbook when Jim had picked it up a few days earlier. Jim sang “Rank Stranger” while Rita Britton accompanied him on the piano. Jim then read a recitation that Daddy had written around 1971. In it, Daddy told of returning to the empty house where he had spent his childhood. Jim followed with singing “Never Grow Old.” I could tell his heart was breaking as he was singing for his Papaw. Jim’s and Greg’s uncle, Ronnie Burke, closed the service with a comforting prayer. It was one of the most touching services I have ever attended, not because it was for my father but because everyone who took part knew Daddy’s heart and they knew the truth behind the words they were saying.
I thought it would be appropriate for me to honor Daddy by using his own words as he was laid to rest on Monday morning. I read excerpts from an article he had written concerning the promise God made to Abraham. In it, Daddy wrote in part, “Oh, what a glorious matchless privilege to be taken into the very household of God – to be able to call the Eternal Creator our Father!” Jim then read a poem and closed the graveside service as he led us in singing “Angel Band.”
Daddy’s body now lies resting beside Mom’s in the little family cemetery just down the road from where they spent their years together here on earth.
Some people have told me they couldn't speak at the service of a loved one. I disagree. If you know in your heart it is what your loved one wanted, you can do it. God gives us inner strength when we need it.
