My newest backyard bluebird Daddy III. This mature Eastern Bluebird appeared just a day after the death of my long-time avian friend Daddy II. In just a couple of days this bird has completely adopted three chicks in the box. Actively feeding and defending them. He and Mama III are inseparable. Our hero!

An extreme close up of a daddy long-legs spider I found hanging out on the wall outside my front door. Taken with the new macro set up I'm using Tamron AF 1.4x tele-converter, two of the Canon EF 25II extension tubes, and a Canon EF50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro.

A "daddy long legs" spider, seen in the bathroom where they like to hang out. The white eyes are probably an artefact from the use of on-camera flash.

We found this photo when going through Mom and Daddy's things. I had never seen it before. It was taken not long before they got married. Check out Daddy's wild socks! :-)

Notice they both have farmer's tans. They were both farmers. Mom worked in the fields right alongside Daddy. Not long before he passed away, Daddy told me he never once asked Mom to help him with the crops. He didn't have to.

Daddy III on the mealworm feeder. He and Mama have six little blue eggs in the box. Their second clutch of the year.

Hosting bluebirds is one of the best things I've ever done for myself as well as for nature. I look out the back door and this sight is better than any premium channel on the boob tube. If I didn't have bluebirds, I might think that prairie sky is blue. The sky pales to the blue Daddy carries on his back.

Benni never needs an excuse to give kisses. He stil does his "specialty" kiss: a gentle lick, lick followed by a gentle nibble to the nose. I laugh everytime!

Daddy Bluebird hangs around the yard most of the day, looking for bugs to feed himself or his 3 little hatchlings, and protecting the nest box from intruders. Isn't he awesome?!

“You have three wonderful children. What does it mean to you to be a daddy?”

“It’s though as hell being a daddy. Makes you always wonder about your capacities to be a decent human being. Showing kindness, patience, understanding, love and all to these little ones so...

Daddy III, our backyard bluebird, keeping an eye out for Mama while she is inside the box incubating six little blue eggs. Bluebirds have incredibly strong family instincts. These eggs should hatch about 09 April.

I woke up early on Saturday (4:30 am) and went for a run before the boys woke up. I loved running across the desert landscape.

It's scraping the leaf with the two appendages by his mouth and eating debris it finds. Amazing little creature. It's behavior reminds me of construction equipment.

Anyone know who is this? hot hot hot
