I justed wanted to share...
Ms. Monnie turned 4 yesterday & her Dad, my son's [Sincere] birthday is today December 3rd, they have a cruel joke going as his dad's birthday is tomorrow, he was born the day before his Dad & Ms. Monnie was born the day before him, lol.
Daddy on the mealworm feeder. I provide dried mealworms to the bluebirds in the off-season just to keep them around. You wouldn't want to feed dried mealworms to babies in the nest because they get all their hydration from live insects. Hope we have a productive bluebird season.

In the Garden.
The daddy longlegs is actually a large type of cranefly, of which there are 94 species in the UK. It is familiar to us in its adult form as the gangly insect that flits around our homes in summer. As a larva, it is a grey grub (also known as a 'leatherjacket') that lives underground, feeding on plants stems and roots. This habit makes it an unpopular species with gardeners as it can leave bare patches of lawn and can also become an agricultural pest. The adults are on the wing during the late summer and are common in gardens and fields, often coming indoors. They rarely feed at this time, concentrating on mating and laying their eggs among the grass. (The Wildlife Trust).

Activity in the Bluebird birdhouse has really picked up these past few days. Mom and Dad are tag teaming with mealworms and other treats for their babies.
I caught this male patiently waiting his turn to feed the babies with a beak full of mealworms.

Daddy on the mealworm feeder. The bluebirds are in the yard a lot more now that Mama is building a nest. I just give them a few supplemental mealworms. Even when they have babies, they catch most of the insects they eat. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
In honor of my dad, who died one year ago on August 4, 2005. Happier days, fishing with two of his 23 grandchildren! (these are my kids, Laura and Josh, probably taken in 1988.)
Daddy III on the mealworm feeder. Mama is inside the box incubating four eggs. Daddy took this worm to her. By mid-summer the bluebirds are looking haggard and worn from the heat and the rigors of raising young. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
