In honor of my dad, who died one year ago on August 4, 2005. Happier days, fishing with two of his 23 grandchildren! (these are my kids, Laura and Josh, probably taken in 1988.)
he dosnt have to say nothing but you know exactly what he wants just by his look and you obey like the good girl you are knowing you will get your award for being so good...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PTeLZ49ALE
My Dad and I.
The year was 1969.
I've yet to ask if the red bike's his.
If yes...
Coooooool!
I'm thinking it's the neighbor's though
My mom told me once
If memory serves me right
Which I doubt
As that was a looooong
Long time ago...

Daddy's mate recently disappeared with four eggs in the box. She wouldn't abandon a clutch, so I doubt that she is alive. Daddy is still in the yard and protecting the box from some chickadees that want to move in. Hopefully he will find another mate and bring her here.
Here is a macro of a Crane Fly found in Swineholes Wood. When I was a little boy (that's a long time ago I here you gasp!) we used to call them Daddy Long Legs. As it was early morning, he sat still enough for me to get the tripod out and do some careful manual focusing - a rare treat!
Daddy's mate was killed recently by a House Sparrow. He is leading around four recent fledglings and schooling them on survival skills. They aren't spending much time in the yard. Hopefully Daddy will find another mate and bring her here. I've trapped two male sparrows, but the one I think is the problem is extremely wary and has a claim on the box. This is dangerous for Daddy and the young. If he catches one in the box he will kill them. Dealing with HOSP's is a necessary part of hosting bluebirds.

"Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)"
I just wanna get your attention
I really wanna be all up in your head (turn the lights on)
'Cause what I got, you going to get some, yeah
But girl, that's only if you ain't scared
And I won't knock, won't ring no bells
You just float that bottom up in the air
I'll get you hot, I know you oh so well
And when I walk in, all that I wanna hear
Is you say, "Daddy's home, home for me."
And I know you've been waiting for this loving all day
You know your daddy's home and it's time to play
So you ain't got to give my loving away
So all my ladies, say, "Hey, hey, hey, daddy."
Hey, hey, hey, daddy
So all my ladies, say, "Hey, hey, hey, daddy."
Hey, hey, hey, daddy
I ain't gotta do a lot of flexing
Shorty, you already know what it is
And girl, tonight we gonna do a lot of sexing
Can't nobody do your body like this
And I won't knock, won't ring no bells
You just float that bottom up in the air
I'll get you hot, I know you oh so well
And when I walk in, all that I wanna hear
Is you say, "Daddy's home, home for me."
And I know you've been waiting for this loving all day
You know your daddy's home and it's time to play
So you ain't got to give my loving away
So all my ladies, say, "Hey, hey, hey, daddy."
Hey, hey, hey, daddy
So all my ladies, say, "Hey, hey, hey, daddy."
Hey, hey, hey, daddy
Poke it on out, poke it out right there
I'ma fall back while you work that chair
Do your damn thing, let the neighbors hear
Hey, hey, hey, daddy
Poke it on out, poke it out right there
I'ma fall back and let you work that chair
Do your damn thing, all I want to hear
Is you say, "Daddy's home, home for me."
And I know you've been waiting for this loving all day
Your daddy's home, it's time to play
Now, baby, you ain't got to give my loving away
"Daddy's home, home for me."
And I know you've been waiting for this loving all day
You know your daddy's home and it's time to play
So you ain't got to give my loving away

Our backyard Eastern Bluebird, Daddy III, perched on a feeder staff. He has no interest in the bird seed, is just asserting his dominance on the feeder birds. Letting them know this is his back yard. Mama is in the box incubating five little powder blue eggs.

I was at the Shoreham Music Festival "Wildlife" recently and thought this was a fun thing to take a photo of. I only had a pocket compact camera. It was a giant Plastic spider hanging from the ceiling in one of the big tops. Something I definitely wouldn't want to see in real life!
There comes a moment when you realize you are not a child anymore.
Maybe you're not an adult yet but you have to behave like one. You cannot scream for your Mum to help you because unexpectedly she's the one who needs relief. You cannot hide or run away. You need to stay and be supportive in spite of your own fear.
And it makes you grow up slowly.
My Daddy had serious heart attack tonight and my Mother and I spent the most horrible night of my life at the hospital. He's fine right now and I hope he will be because I love him too much to be ready for his passing.

Araneology the study of spiders has to be as hard as Mycology the study of fungi. Flippin' eck you research something online and you get embroiled in a world of terminology and names I cant pronounce!
Daddy Long Legs or Harvestman to the layman :)
Daddy III, our backyard Eastern Bluebird. The only male bluebird we've hosted that will incubate eggs. I'm always mesmerized by the blue these birds carry. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
Daddy III sits on the Sparrow Spooker with a bug for his brood of four. The Spooker attaches to the nestbox and has strips of reflective mylar that keep sparrows away. Obviously, it doesn't spook Daddy. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
a macro of a Daddy long legs in my garden. I have never taken a Daddy long legs before so I'm not sure if this is a good macro of one or not but it surprised me to see it actually had large eyes as I had never seen this before till this macro pic
Daddy III, our backyard Eastern Bluebird, sits on the Sparrow Spooker attached to his nestbox. It may scare off the sparrows, but obviously not the bluebirds. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
