Desde Hegoa y REAS Euskadi nos complace invitaros a participar en el
seminario _POLÍTICAS PÚBLICAS LOCALES PARA LA ECONOMÍA SOCIAL Y
SOLIDARIA_ que se celebrará en el Salón de Grados de Zubiria Etxea, en

Sinónimo: Quercus aquatica Walter. Arboles caducifolios de hasta 30 m de alto. Corteza lisa en los primeros años, después grisáceo-pardusca, irregular y profundamente agrietada, ennegreciéndose con los años, ramillas delgadas, lampiñas, primero rojizas, después pardo grisáceas. Hojas lanceoladas, elípticas u obovadas, con la máxima anchura hacia el ápice, de 3-12 cm de largo por 1,5-7 cm de ancho, márgenes enteros o con 2-3 lóbulos a cada lado, las hojas júveniles pueden estar más profundamente lobuladas, haz y envés glabros. Bellotas de maduración bienal, anchamente ovoides, de 9,5-14 mm, cúpula de 10-18 mm de diámetro. Especie nativa del sureste de Estados Unidos. En Iturraran se encuentra en la zona 1.
Sinonimoa: Quercus aquatica Walter. Gehienez 30 m-ko zuhaitz hostoerorkorra. Azal leuna lehen urteetan, ondoren grisaxka-arrexka, irregularra eta pitzadura sakonduna, urteak igarotzen diren heinean belztu egiten dena, adaxka finak, glabroak, lehenik gorrixkak, ondoren arre-grisaxkak. Hosto lantzeolatuak, eliptikoak edo obobatuak, zabalera handiena apex aldean, 3-12 cm-ko luzera eta 1,5-7 cm-ko zabalerakoak, ertz koskagabeak edo 2-3 lobulurekin alde bakoitzean, hosto gazteek lobulu sakonagoak izan ditzakete, gainaldea eta azpialdea glabroak. Ezkurrak bi urtero heltzen dira, oso oboideak dira, 9,5-14 mm-koak, kupularen diametroa 10-18 mm-koa. Espeziea Estatu Batuetako hego-ekialdekoa da. Iturraranen, 1. zonan dago.
Synonyme : Quercus aquatica Walter. Arbres caducifoliés de maximum 30 m de hauteur. Écorce lisse les premières années, ensuite grisâtre-brune, irrégulière et profondément fissurée, qui noircit avec les années, branchettes minces, glabres, d’abord rougeâtres, ensuite brun grisâtre. Feuilles lancéolées, elliptiques ou obovales, avec la largeur maximale vers le sommet, de 3-12 cm de long sur 1,5-7 cm de large, bords entiers ou avec 2-3 lobules de chaque côté, las feuilles jeunes pouvant être plus profondément lobulées, adaxial et abaxial glabres. Glands à maturation biennale, largement ovoïdes, de 9,5-14 mm, cupule de 10-18 mm de diamètre. Espèce originaire du sud-est des États-Unis. À Iturraran ils se trouvent dans la zone 1.
Synonym: Quercus aquatica Walter. Deciduous trees up to 30 m tall. Smooth bark in its first few years, later greyish-brownish-grey, unevenly, deeply cracked, blackening as time goes by, twigs are thin, hairless, firstly reddish, later greyish-dun. Lanceolate, elliptical or obovate leaves, that are widest towards the apex, 3-12 cm long by 1.5-7 cm wide, margins are entire or with 2-3 lobes on each side; young leaves may be more deeply lobate, glabrous upper and underside. Acorns ripen every two years, are broadly ovoid, 9.5-14 mm; cupule is 10-18 mm in diameter. Species native to the Southeastern USA. In Iturraran it can be found in zone 1.

Day 1 of our Mt Kailash kora, and most of us opted to walk the first section, from Darchen to Tarboche, just beyond which, at the foot of Chuku monastery, we rendezvoused with the rest of the group, and our yaks which were carrying our main packs. It's the main starting point for the trek these days, with most groups driving there from Darchen. There's some big construction work going on on the other side of the valley, which does not bode well.
We'd been able to leave stuff in the jeeps back at the guest house, so our main packs only had what we needed for the four day trek. Carol and Tashi had decided to allow us one more day than the itinerary, and it proved a wise decision. More practiced pilgrims manage to complete the kora in one day, but most allow three, whether on foot or on pony (which seemed a popular option with many of the Hindu pilgrim groups. For large stretches of the first day we were walking amidst pony packs.
The route took us up the wide, stony river valley of the Lha-chu, which grew gradually narrower and the mountain sides steeper as we climbed. Lots of water running off the mountains. For most of the day the low grey cloud kept Mt Kailash (and other peaks) hidden from view, aside from one magical moment as we passed below the west face, and the clouds lifted to reveal a snow topped peak.
After lunching in a sheltered spot, we continued on to our overnight camp at Dira-puk monastery - by the time we got there it has started to sleet. Thankfully, our tents were up and we could gather in the dining tent for tea and biscuits. Time for Fran and I to take a quick side trip up to see Mt Kailash's shiny black face..... albeit with a scattering of snow.
