The Fleetline was introduced late in the 1941 model year as a four-door sedan. In 1942, a fastback two-door "Aerosedan" was also offered. In 1947, the Fleetline made up 71.26% of Chevrolet's sales. For the years' 1949 through 1952 models, the fastback was the only one offered, and Chevrolet dropped the Fleetline for 1953. production was suspended. in 1942 due to World War II, after 110,000 had been made, though several thousand Chevrolet coupes and sedans were produced during the war years for military staff use. In 1945, production for civilians resumed. The original series was produced through 1948.
The Aerosedan was launched initially in 1942 with fastback two door coachwork and a price tag of $ 880. This original right hand drive version was supplied new to a lady school teacher in South Africa
A redesigned Fleetline with reduced body contour and integrated rear fenders was offered for the 1949 through 1952 model years and was referred to as a "fastback" because of its distinct sloping roof which extends through to the trunk lid. The Fleetline during the 1949 to 1950 years also has a lower look than a sedan, with the windshield being one inch shorter in height than a standard contemporary sedan. The London Design Festival 2015 took place at a number of different venues around the city. This is one of a variety installations I photographed at Somerset House. I took several shots from different angles. You can see one more in the comments below.
And this is what the creators Patternity and Paperless Post (presumably two collaborating design companies) say about it:
'As part of the "Ten Designers In The West Wing" installations at Somerset House, Patternity have collaborated with Paperless Post to create an immersive monochrome world of stripes, geometric shapes, curves and endless angles. As you enter their customised room, immediately you are hit with a feeling that evokes entering a children's playroom. A black wall with cut out shapes allows the visitor to see different framed views of the space. As you peer across the installation, the mirrors opposite reflect further patterns and angles from both the other side of the black wall and of the patterned pieces dotted across the room ... visitors are able to interact with objects by touching, pushing, dragging and plucking parts of the installation. Once inside, similar to a Lego play set, the possibilities of discovery and creation are endless as the pieces are rearranged and placed elsewhere, to create a new design.'
I passed this little beauty on my way to the shops, I have seen it many times before driving around the city though it’s the first time I have viewed it close up, the owner was nowhere to be seen hence a quick few snaps on my iPhone to archive the moment .
