The creature that is called a Sea Mouse, or Aphrodita Aculeata is actually a polychaete worm which lives and feeds on the seabed. It has been called a Sea Mouse because it curls up like a mouse and it also looks furry. The beautiful viridescent iridescent chaetae, (ventral marginal hairs), look furry and shimmering in the sunshine. The very sharp dark spines can also be clearly seen. Because it lives buried in muddy sand it is rarely seen, even on the seabed. One of the few times they can be witnessed is when they are washed up dead, or dying onto the beach.
These pictures were taken on Portobello Beach near Edinburgh in Scotland with a Canon 18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens on an EOS 550D using Dorr DAF 42 P Power Zoom Flash Unit for Canon with inbuilt diffuser in place. These small versions are rendered from RAW files which I did warm up slightly.

This is about the best of the "creatures" as far as I am concerned. Not that I like any of them. Bleah.
Stepping through the ages after bargaining one's soul to ever lasting life, chained, as it were, to the fates of this spinning orb as it whirls through space toward what we may never know...

The Red Milkweed Beetle Tetraopes tetraophthalmus) feeds and shelters on the milkweed plant. This clever creature bites through the midrib of the leaf in a few spots near the leaf tip. This stops the milky latex-like sap from flowing to that part of the leaf, making it possible for the beetle to eat it without having its mouthparts glued together by the sticky substance.
