"Sideways, Upside-down or Backwards”
... TOY version. These are 2 inches long WWII U.S. M4A1 sherman tanks.
Two things that I am fascinated with and both somewhat became hobbies. The first one is not a surprise for most of you… toys!!! The second one is my fascination with WWII. I am fascinated on how such an extraordinary event shaped the world that we lived today… anyway, this shots were my way of combining both passions!

Our American family (some really close friends that somewhat adopt us here in the US many years ago) always give as a box of homemade sweet goodness. They have been doing this in their families for generations, and this year they even have incorporated some traditional Brazilian treats such as brigadeiros! Receiving these is an amazing gift, but eating them is PURE JOY!

COCA-COLA ART GALLERY
In 1906, the ‘Coca-Cola’ company hired William D'Arcy, who set the tone of Coke's advertising for the coming decades. He held the view that "‘Coca-Cola’ advertising should create scenes that drew people in and made them part of the pleasant interludes of everyday life". D’Arcy showed pleasant people drinking ‘Coca-Cola’ while doing sociable activities such as shopping and playing games.
In the 1920s, ‘Coca-Cola’'s advertising began to reflect the prosperity of the times. Advertisements depicted the rising middle class participating in activities once reserved for the elite in society. An advertising poster shows a couple of friends, chillin’ outside at a party. An other cardboard shows a young girl being pulled on a board behind a boat. The advertisements created images that people aspired to emulate. And with the growing prosperity, such a dream was within everyone’s reach.

This year is my 10th anniversary, and I couldn't be more proud of what we accomplished together! More than passion, a great marriage (in my opinion) is a result of a delicate balance between true love, trust and compromises! A happy marriage is a long conversation which always seems too short!

Like many families we have some traditions during Xmas. I always make sugar cookies with the girls so we can leave some for Santa. I roll the dough and let them do whatever they want, using our cookie cutters, or just their imagination. After baking them, I tried to help them decorate with red and green icing. Here is the result of our work. I hope Santa enjoyed the gift as much as I enjoyed making them with my daughters.

...get away
Get a good job with more pay
And your O.K.
Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands
And make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team
Money get back
I'm all right Jack
Keep your hands off my stack
Money, it's a hit
Don't give me that
Do goody good bullshit
I'm in the hi-fidelity
First class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet
(Sax and guitar solos)
Money, it's a crime
Share it fairly
But don't take a slice of my pie
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil
Today
But if you ask for a rise
It's no surprise that they're
Giving none away
Away
Away
Away
Away...

"Yes, absolutely in the right!"
"I certainly was in the right!"
"You was definitely in the right. That geezer was cruising for a bruising!"
"Yeah!"
"Why does anyone do anything?"
"I don't know, I was really drunk at the time!"
"I was just telling him, he couldn't get into number 2. He was asking
Why he wasn't coming up on freely, after I was yelling and
Screaming and telling him why he wasn't coming up on freely.

POP-art... in brazil!!! This is a stylized version of a traditional folkloric figure in Brazil. I got as a gift from my brother in law!
Just borrowed and old XTi from a friend so I can keep shooting until I decide what to do for a new camera. Not ideal, but at least it is a working camera!!!

As for this shot:
Bumba-meu-Boi is a folkloric pantomime, or a popular opera, usually enacted during June festivities in Brazil. There are many variations of bumba-meu-boi, but the basic version tells the story of a farm hand who kills an ox to satisfy his wife's craving to eat the ox's tongue. The farmer who owned the ox gets help from indigenous shaman, who brings the ox back to life. The farm hand is forgiven and everyone celebrates. A dancer dressed in an elaborately crafted and colorful ox costume is the center of the bumba-meu-boi celebration. Bumba-meu-Boi festivities are especially popular in north and northeastern Brazil.

I think more than a hobby, home improvement is a necessity. It is also a way to somehow get back in touch with my architecture background (my undergrad degree). It is also a way to have my mind on something else. Since I bough my house a couple years ago I’ve completed a lot of projects such as maintenance free deck, a pavers patio, changed all the floors to real hardwood, among many others. Today I was working on my latest one. Another smaller pavers patio for my daughters’ toy house + a redesign of my backyard landscape to facilitate the flow when I am mowing the lawn. My back is killing me now… I guess I am not 20 anymore!!! Lol… anyway, this shot is part of my pre-planning drawing that I did to get prices and materials quantities. I always plan, draw and “implement” my projects on paper before actually executing them to make sure I stay on budget and have all I need before starting.
BTW, this is an old (vintage) measuring wood tape that belonged to my father. This is probably over 50 years old.

So excited with the Worldcup! As a Brazilian I fit the mold of a “crazy soccer fan”, or as know all over the world: Football! Not proud of so many crazy things leading to the biggest spectacle in the world finally held in my country after more than 50 years, but super excited to binge watch on one of the finest sport on the planet! VAMOS BRASIL!

"FABULOUS"
I am not really in video games but I finally decide to get a wii to play with my girls. I don’t regret a bit. It has been pure joy to play with them and see the little ones trying to figure out the games and challenges. Super fun!!!
BTW, this was something new (this photo) for me from a lighting standpoint. I used my black Plexiglas as a base, a continuous light for 1 minute, my 580 flash on manual at 1/16 power + soft-box to start with, and an exposure of over a minute and a half + 32 aperture to achieve the “star” effect on the blue led light (flare). What sucks is with such long exposure every little dust speck, every little scratch shows on the picture. Lot’s of stamp tool here to remove some of the imperfections. I am not super exited with the result, but it was a good experiment nonetheless.

Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste & Touch
Inspired by a restaurant brunch from a couple weeks ago, I decided last Sunday to make my own Quiche. I was surprise to see how easy the recipe actually is. Off course I also had to register the final result… the family approved!

"Seventies"
This past Saturday I was in the check out line at Sam’s Club with my daughter. Behind me was a guy with just a few items. I just told him to go ahead of me since he had so few items and I was not in a hurry. My 7 year old was surprised and asked me: “Dad, why did you let him pass in front of us”? Before I answered her question the guy said thank you and responded to her: “Good Karma!” what goes around comes around. Then he reached into his pocked and pulled this one-dollar liberty coin. He explained that a long time ago his grandfather gave a similar coin to him. He called it a “money magnet”. He gave to my daughter and told her to put it into her piggybank to attract a lot of other coins. It was a nice and fun gestured. I instantly thought about this week “good luck charm” challenge and how this fits so perfectly with the theme. This proves that inspiration can come when we least expect! Happy MM.
