This is an incredible holiday gift and self-promotional piece that I received as a gift from one of the Design Agencies that I work with - Ultra Creative. The entire piece totally reflects what Ultra stands for… super creative anchored in great design and story telling.

The Second World War changed the world forever and helped shaped and GROW the US from an isolated society to a global industrial power!

The little airplane is a diecast reproduction of P-47D Bubbletop – Scale 1:144 (around 3” or 8cm long).

As far as I can remember I was always fascinated with the WWII. I always liked all the historical aspects of the war, and how this huge event changed the history of mankind forever. After seeing some random episodes of the PBS Ken Burn’s documentary WAR, I decided to purchase the series, and I did not regret a bit. One of the best documentaries I ever seeing. If you like history and story telling, and happen to have any interest on events that shaped our world today, I highly recommend this series.

COCA-COLA SIDE OF LIFE ART REMIX

www.coca-cola-art.com

The Coca-Cola iconic artworks serve as a blueprint and inspiration for new design impulses. The creative potential of the Remix project aims to draw out the hidden child in all of us. Elements from early-day-visuals are picked out, cut and pasted into a new visual.

The combination of the iconic footage with the contemporary Photoshop / Illustrator styles gives the opportunity to rediscover these images anew. The visuals are recognizable as vintage Coca-Cola but yet have a fresh feel.

The work of the Remix artists reflects various styles, personalities and cultures and the project shows how vibrantly creative the collaboration of a design network can be.

The diverse backgrounds of the contributing artists have resulted in a multifaceted world of imagery that draws its freshness from the mixture of approaches. Their mission is to spread an optimistic look at the world and help people realize how contagious happiness is. By combining iconic Coca-Cola images with up-to-date illustration techniques and styles, the artists have given rise to a progressive style of visual expression.

This past Saturday I was in the check out lane at Sam’s Club with my daughter. Behind me was a guy with just a few items. I just told him to go ahead of me since he had so few items and I was not in a hurry. My 7 year old was surprised and asked me: “Dad, why did you let him pass in front of us”? Before I answered her question the guy said thank you and responded to her: “Good Karma!” what goes around comes around. Then he reached into his pocked and pulled this one-dollar liberty coin. He explained that a long time ago his grandfather gave him a similar coin. He called it a “money magnet”. He gave to my daughter and told her to put it into her piggybank to attract a lot of other coins. It was a nice and fun gestured. I instantly thought about this week “good luck charm” challenge and how this fits so perfectly with the theme. This proves that inspiration can come when we least expect! Happy MM.

First try for me and also for Kariobinja! :) This was definitely hard also beacuse i do not use Photoshop but just a freeware program that hasn't all the functions I needed!

I have to say that the JPEG version lacks something compared with the original work made with Paint.net.

But I hope you'll like the result - anyway I'll improve my skills!!! :D

COCA-COLA SIDE OF LIFE ART REMIX

Since its early days, Coca-Cola has played an eminent role in the visual culture of several generations.

By continually challenging artists and agencies to create images for its wide range of communication, Coca-Cola also functioned as a catalyst for creative expressions, right ideas at the right time…

The original Coca-Cola illustrations were drawn by masters as Haddon Sundblom or Gil Elvgren with their loving, magical touch. Some of the early Coke images are playful, romantic, cartoony, imaginative; others are trendy and stylized but they are always signs of their times.

The concept of the Remix project is simple. Every selected artist makes a “Coke Side of Life” Remix of historic Coca-Cola visuals and creates a new visual inspired by the brand and its soul, a thematic interpretation.

My dad died of a heart attack when I was 4 moths years old. Never had a chance to get to know him and always heard incredible stories about how smart and charming he was. I have a deep admiration for him and really heart several incredible objects that belonged to him including an amazing Leica M3 that I often photograph. This ring also belonged to him. Not exactly my style but I keep it and consider one of my most precious material possessions. I dream that some day, somehow I will have a chance to meet him and finally have a chance to ask a thousand questions, but not before I give him a super tight hug and kiss.

COCA-COLA ART GALLERY

Is she a Victorian pin-up, a girl next-door, a movie star, a party hostess, a factory worker or a swimsuit beauty? Her demeanor is radiant, vivacious and breezy. She exudes youthful energy and appears picture perfect wherever she goes, dressed up in the latest fashion.

When ‘Coca-Cola’ started in the 1890s portraying these independent women, it was still a uncongenial time for a girl with big ideas. Women were discouraged from thinking beyond household drudgery, and derided if they distinguished themselves. From these early days, ‘Coca-Cola’ has used the girl portraits in unique ways, always running miles ahead of the times. ‘Coca-Cola’ encouraged and inspired women to live their lives to the fullest and share life experiences.

Far away from the proper etiquette, the ‘Coca-Cola’ girl spreads her wings, chooses hobbies of the modern age and makes a lot of fun. She is traveling, sporting, sunbathing, inviting her friends over, flirting…

From the portraits of cheerleaders at the soda fountain to the ones of iconic actresses and women in flight suits: as a symbol of women’s emancipation, it could hardly be bettered.

Congrats for a well deserved passage to the world cup finals today!!! Funny that a country that has red, white and blue for its flag's colors is actually proud and passionate about another color... orange!!!!

From Wikipedia:

The Dutch national soccer team is the national football team of the Netherlands and is controlled by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB). It won Euro '88 and reached two consecutive World Cup finals in 1974 and 1978, but lost both finals to their respective host nations, West Germany and Argentina. At the peak of its success in the 1970s, the team was famous for its mastery of Total Football and was nicknamed Clockwork Orange for its precision passing. In the Netherlands the team is colloquially referred to as Oranje (orange), a tribute to the Dutch Royal Family, the House of Orange-Nassau. The team is frequently referred to as Holland, even though Holland is only one region of the Netherlands. It is currently ranked fourth in the FIFA World Rankings and first in the World Football Elo Ratings after defeating Brazil.

I am fascinated on how such an extraordinary event shaped the world that we lived today… anyway, this shots were my way of combining both passions!

Icons of the 70s these gas-guzzlers (muscle cars) might have symbolized the golden era of the true American car. They were more than just a mean of transportation. They were, and probably continue to be and represent a true Americana way of life.
