One of my favorite toys when I was a kid (I think they still are). One of my best memories was a Christmas gift set that I got. It was big, full of native Americans and soldiers. I really loved that set, and one of the things that I loved the most was to customize them (imagine that). For example, I would use AAA batteries as scuba gear, and would create the rest of the gear using modeling clay… I don’t think a lot changed in the past 25 years!!! ;-)

COCA-COLA SIDE OF LIFE ART REMIX

www.coca-cola-art.com

Since its early days, Coca-Cola has played an eminent role in the visual culture of several generations.

By continually challenging artists and agencies to create images for its wide range of communication, Coca-Cola also functioned as a catalyst for creative expressions, right ideas at the right time…

The original Coca-Cola illustrations were drawn by masters as Haddon Sundblom or Gil Elvgren with their loving, magical touch. Some of the early Coke images are playful, romantic, cartoony, imaginative; others are trendy and stylized but they are always signs of their times.

The concept of the Remix project is simple. Every selected artist makes a “Coke Side of Life” Remix of historic Coca-Cola visuals and creates a new visual inspired by the brand and its soul, a thematic interpretation.

Today a saw a friend that I haven’t seen in quite sometime. I was really excited to learn that he started a new business and is doing quite well. His business is to sell on-line some AMAZING Brazilian inspired sweet chocolate treats called “brigadeiro”.

He brought some samples to our lunch party and I was luck enough to try some flavors. They are super “creamy” and delicious. He also gave me some samples for me to shoot and will send a box later so I can do more experimentation (once my new camera arrives… this is another story…).

Anyway, if you like chocolate, and/or want to give a nice and indulgent gift to someone special please visit his website. I guarantee you will not going to be disappointed.

Is she a Victorian pin-up, a girl next-door, a movie star, a party hostess, a factory worker or a swimsuit beauty? Her demeanor is radiant, vivacious and breezy. She exudes youthful energy and appears picture perfect wherever she goes, dressed up in the latest fashion.

When ‘Coca-Cola’ started in the 1890s portraying these independent women, it was still a uncongenial time for a girl with big ideas. Women were discouraged from thinking beyond household drudgery, and derided if they distinguished themselves. From these early days, ‘Coca-Cola’ has used the girl portraits in unique ways, always running miles ahead of the times. ‘Coca-Cola’ encouraged and inspired women to live their lives to the fullest and share life experiences.

Far away from the proper etiquette, the ‘Coca-Cola’ girl spreads her wings, chooses hobbies of the modern age and makes a lot of fun. She is traveling, sporting, sunbathing, inviting her friends over, flirting…

From the portraits of cheerleaders at the soda fountain to the ones of iconic actresses and women in flight suits: as a symbol of women’s emancipation, it could hardly be bettered.

Last Thursday during my weekly indoor soccer game I pulled my hamstring muscle (I guess I am not 20 anymore…). At first it wasn’t as bad, but as the days progressed got really bad, so bad that for the past two days I couldn’t sleep. I finally went to the doctor today, but he only prescribed 800mg of ibuprofen, heat and rest. I am in so much pain that I almost didn’t do this week challenge. Since I just got my “dose” of pain killers, I was able so snap a couple shots… tomorrow I will go to a specialist to see what is the damage for real… which me luck!

“Here’s the way to feel refreshed” was a slogan that caught the eye from magazine readers in the 1940s. “Your thirst takes wings when you treat it with to an ice-cold Coca-Cola”. Even the busiest man in the world comes up smiling after ‘the pause that refreshes’.

From the earliest days, ‘Coca-Cola’ has a very simple purpose, and that is to offer people of the world a moment out of the day to relax, to enjoy and to be refreshed.

The feeling when you drink an ice-cold ‘Coke’ from that traditional curvy glass bottle on a steamy hot day is one of those things you never forget or fail to appreciate. Your whole body relaxes as that caramel-like sweetness hits your tongue and is followed by that wonderfully pleasant burn as it hits the back of your throat and is finally welcomed by your stomach as it quenches your thirst. That, my friends, is refreshment!

The Coca-Cola iconic artworks serve as a blueprint and inspiration for new design impulses. The creative potential of the Remix project aims to draw out the hidden child in all of us. Elements from early-day-visuals are picked out, cut and pasted into a new visual.

The combination of the iconic footage with the contemporary Photoshop / Illustrator styles gives the opportunity to rediscover these images anew. The visuals are recognizable as vintage Coca-Cola but yet have a fresh feel.

The work of the Remix artists reflects various styles, personalities and cultures and the project shows how vibrantly creative the collaboration of a design network can be.

The diverse backgrounds of the contributing artists have resulted in a multifaceted world of imagery that draws its freshness from the mixture of approaches. Their mission is to spread an optimistic look at the world and help people realize how contagious happiness is. By combining iconic Coca-Cola images with up-to-date illustration techniques and styles, the artists have given rise to a progressive style of visual expression.

We all speak football. Not only it’s the world's favorite spectator sport but it's also played by millions of people of all ages, skill levels and genders all over the world. Football’s universality is its simplicity, the fact that the game can be played anywhere with anything. Urban children kick the can on concrete and rural kids kick a rag wrapped around a rag wrapped around a rag, barefoot, on dirt.

Next summer, Euro 2008 will take place in Austria and Switzerland. As the qualifying matches are going into a final stage, we will soon know the 16 teams that will join the host countries.

To quote the book "Soccer and Its Rules": "Are you ready? Ready to cheer the players to victory, marvel at their fitness, speed, and skills, urging them to win every tackle for the ball, ready to explode at a powerful shot? Ready for the excitement of flying wingers, overlapping backs, curling corners, slick one-two passing and goals scored with panache? Ready for another moment in a fantasy world?"

“Yes! We are ready!! And so are Pixecute and Creative XL who remixed some vintage 'Coca-Cola' football ads. A true tribute to the sport that unites us all…
