As the sun sets over Manarola, the village on the Italian Riviera, a mesmerising scene unfolds. With a touch of pink in the sky, the long exposure photograph captures the tranquil beauty of this coastal gem. The calm waters mirror the pastel hues, reflecting the serenity of the moment. It's a snapshot of Manarola's timeless allure, where nature's canvas merges with the captivating landscape.

After the first winter rains. This is taken from the Southern end of the Corte Madera Marsh Ecological Preserve near where it abuts the Tiburon Peninsula - looking north towards Greenbrae, where I live with my dogs, Kief and Shadow, who love the fact that this outrageous location is just a block away.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.

The rotting leaf creates methane gas that gets trapped in the ice, like gaspockets.
I gave a letter to the postman,
He put it his sack.
Bright in early next morning,
He brought my letter back.
She wrote upon it:
Return to sender, address unknown.
No such number, no such zone.
We had a quarrel, a lovers spat
I write Im sorry but my letter keeps coming back.
So then I dropped it in the mailbox
And sent it special d.
Bright in early next morning
It came right back to me.
She wrote upon it:
Return to sender, address unknown.
No such person, no such so.
This time Im gonna take it myself
And put it right in her hand.
And if it comes back the very next day
Then Ill understand - the writing on it
Return to sender, address unknown.
No such number, no such zone.
"Return to Sender" is a 1962 rock and roll hit single by American singer Elvis Presley. The song was written by Winfield Scott and Otis Blackwell. It is about a man mailing a letter to his girlfriend after an argument. She continually writes "return to sender" and while he keeps receiving the letter with various reasons for returning to sender, including "address unknown" and "no such person". He keeps mailing letters, refusing to believe the relationship is over. Elvis performed "Return to Sender" in the film Girls! Girls! Girls!.
The song peaked at number one on the United Kingdom music charts, and number two on the American music charts.
The memorable opening bars and backing is provided by Boots Randolph playing a baritone saxophone. Boots also played for Little Richard on tracks such as Long Tall Sally and many other famous artists of the time. Boots died in July 2007 at the age of 80.

Old security sign. It's pretty old by the phone number style and the verbiage.
Smith Detective was established in 1903, can't read it on the sign though. You can go here to read about their services and their history. Started by a Dallas law man in 1903. smithprotective.com/

The Stiftskirche in Aschaffenburg was constructed in the 12th century, with many additions over the years. It is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Alexander and was originally a collegiate and convent church. Because of the many treasures the church possessed, the Stiftsmuseum was set up in the chapterhouse to display them to the public. Among the treasures are a 10th century wooden crucifix, a Romanesque cloister, and works of art such as “Lamentation” by Matthias Grünewald.

"love this red and orange color filled the sky. It's really like that people put their hope in the lanterns and let them fly!" quoted from fred's comment. thanks!
"In order to appeal for Heaven's blessings following the 921 earthquake, the Taipei County Government specially commisioned a huge heavenly lantern sixty-seven meters in height and weighing two hunderd kilograms for the 2000 Pingsi Heavenly Lantern Festival." Since then, the Sky Lanterns Festival becomes a very special day in Taipei County's Pingsi Twonship.

It was a rainy night to watch the releasing of large, balloon-shaped lanterns into sky. Hundreds slowly rise into air, creating beautiful, peaceful scene.
this is one of traditional events at "Taiwan Lanterns Festival" since 1990...
Pingsi is a rural township in the north eastern part of Taiwan. Located in a remote mountain area outside of Taipei and run through by Keelung river, it was a small coal mining town in the early 20th century.
Sky lanterns are traditionally lanterns made of oiled paper with a bamboo frame that contain a small candle or other combustible material (such as the fake prayer's paper money). When lit the candle heats the air and causes the lantern to rise into the air. Ideally the lantern floats back to the ground when the fuel for the flame is exhausted. Sky Lanterns are also known as "Kung Ming lanterns", since some say they were invented by Chu Ke-liang (also known as Kung Ming) during the Three Kingdoms period as way of communication during war time.
During Lantern Festival, all kinds of red and orange sky lanterns light the still night sky over the village of Pinghsi creating a scene of unusual beauty.

Good morning...sorry about my hiatus this week...its been kinda crazy, but I'm back now. I was inspired last night by a photo I saw while Exploring, so I had to give this a shot myself...ok...shoot me for not being original...thanks to the help of the AE-1, a tripod, a 60 watt incandescent light overhead, 2 100 watt Flourescent studio lights on each side, another tripod, a self timer, and of course my trusty XTi!
