Juvenile Cooper Hawk, learning to hunt in our back yard full of bird feeders. Thank heavens, he wasn't very good ------ yet.
Alice Cooper (and Michael Bruce in the window) during the early years / "Pretties For You" era. Picture is from a 1972 song book.
Lara and I went to the mountains Saturday for our waterfall ritual. On the drive back we were almost home when I saw a raptor on a power line. It was thinner than the Red tail or Red shoulder hawks I usually see, but wasn't sure what it was. I did a u-turn and drove back to a pull over and took these images. The hawk didn't wait long. I just barely had time to put the 100-400 on in place of the 16-35 that is usually resident on the camera. These are not good shots by any stretch, but they are the first images of a Goshawk I have ever taken and also the first Goshawk I have ever seen in the wild.
I assume it's a Goshawk, I looked it up on the internet, but if this is something different let me know.
I made my sister a Colette Cooper backpack for Christmas. Check out more photos at craftrambler.blogspot.com/2013/12/cooper-christmas.html.
I have seen this Cooper's Hawk on the same stretch of road many times -- he seems to like using road signs as temporary perches. This time I was able to get him from the front, unfortunately the light was not that good, and he didn't let me get as close as I would have liked.

I bought this bike for $70 sold about that much worth of parts off of it. Bought a Trek 640 with full campy bits for $300 swapped it all onto this bike and sold the frame and fork for $270 then bought the rims, spokes, nipples and built this wheel set up and the rest are parts I had on hand except for the $30 decals which this bike had none when I got it. All said and done I have less then $250 in this awesome rig I'm pretty sure.
