'Kestrel' tea set, 1933-40 - Susie Cooper (1902-1995)

From: National Museum Cardiff

Susie Cooper was perhaps the most influential and versatile British ceramic designer of the 20th century. In 1929 she left A. E. Gray & Co. of Hanley, Staffordshire, to establish her own company, Susie Cooper Pottery. Wood and Sons of nearby Burslem supplied her with blank wares for her new company to decorate. From 1932 Cooper began to design her own shapes for Wood's to manufacture on her behalf. The first of these was the Kestrel shape, a practical and versatile shape that was introduced in 1932 and remained in production until the late 1950s. This tea set is decorated with pattern E496. It is typical of Susie Cooper's restrained, modernist approach to design, and illustrates perfectly her supreme skill in matching shape and decoration.

First and foremost, his dad Frank W. Cooper was a Jazz Tenor sax player with (friends like Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, Quincy Jones, Art Blakey and Thelonious Monk and many others). His mother Vivian P. Cooper, is a gospel singer.

His younger brother Kevin L. Cooper is manager. K. Brick can be seen preforming around Laughlin Nevada, Kingman AZ., Lake Havasu AZ. areas. Plus, many private special events. What a great musician I'll say! I really enjoyed my time spent with Kevin & K. "Brick" Cooper, and the photo shoot as well. Many thanks my brothers...

This hawk had its full attention on a small bird hiding in the bush below. It flew down to the ground and walked around the bush, then flew right into into the bush flushing out the sparrow in the process. Better luck next time buddy.

Tribute to my dear artist friend

BARBARA COOPER

My favorite artist, and dearest friend, BARBARA COOPER, ended her suffering back in 2007.

BC was a wonderful artist. I collected many of her works and have quite a few of her paintings in my apartments. It always seems that she is right there with me for I see her in her paintings.

BC is the person who gave me the cool FRENCH-ENGLISH dictionary with the hidden story inside. Somehow her guides, knew that of all her friends, it would be ADDA who would find that incredible story. I will always be grateful for that tremendously generous gift.

Adda was one of the first collectors of her incredible paintings, as well, as an advisor to her first venture into selling her paintings. (Ask more MONEY, was my advice! hahaha)

I was able to connect her with the folks at VISUAL AID who welcomed her in their arms. They provided her with vouchers for art supplies and wonderful heartfelt support.

BC was collected by many people in the BAY AREA. She won several awards and was featured in several art shows in Marin.

Every year BC contributed some of her art works to benefit VISUAL AID and other organizations.

She was deeply loved and appreciated by her friends and her art loving admirers.

my friend STEVIE passed away last week, (MAY 2013) and his sister has distributed some of his items. STEVIE also loved BC a lot and he had a huge collection of BC (Barbara Cooper) paintings. Most of the BC paintings went to me, which opened a flood of tears...remembrance of two friends who are no doubt parting and painting on another level....

Miss you my dear artist pal BC and I miss my cherished friend STEVIE...

More than 19 months further, and I have finally taken the plunge and had the set of Specials fitted I had lying around. Took quite some effort (well, funds...), because the Specials are much more compact and thus revealed the holes in the body work from the screws that fiexed the group 2s tp the bodywork. Holes had to be welded up and panels repainted.

I am absolutely thrilled to bits with my new love- the 35mm prime lens. What a fantastic little lens with much versatility..Tis true.. Beauty comes in small packages

Lara and I went to the mountains Saturday for our waterfall ritual. On the drive back we were almost home when I saw a raptor on a power line. It was thinner than the Red tail or Red shoulder hawks I usually see, but wasn't sure what it was. I did a u-turn and drove back to a pull over and took these images. The hawk didn't wait long. I just barely had time to put the 100-400 on in place of the 16-35 that is usually resident on the camera. These are not good shots by any stretch, but they are the first images of a Goshawk I have ever taken and also the first Goshawk I have ever seen in the wild.

I assume it's a Goshawk, I looked it up on the internet, but if this is something different let me know.
