In the country side of Indonesia, these traditional cooking utensil made from Bamboo are still commonly used. This is in traditional market of Pundong, Bantul, Yogya.
Heat the cooking oil, add some chopped up onions, add the rice and then water and bring to a boil. Put in the beans. Cook until done.

This was the beginning for me. I found four small pamphlets about cooking with California wine that had some of the coolest little illustrations I'd seen at the time. It was 2001. Little did I know that this would begin this insatiable desire for me to find more illustrations like it from that era.

Elsewhere the kitchen would be at least twice for 3 people and there's actually a fourth usually in there as well. There's hardly any place to turn around in the heat.
I also tried to make english muffins, which was a pretty chaotic experience. The dough was easy as sin -- I like Ruth Reichl's recipe a lot, tastes exactly like Thomas but better! But her cooking technique -- getting this wet dough into a disc -- was impossible so I switched to Alton Brown's suggestion to cook them in baking rings. It mostly worked, but it was very very hard to get them cooked in the middle without the outside getting too dark, even at the lowest temperature. I made the last few very very thin, which seemed to do the trick. Now, what to do with the other TWELVE.

I know that a lot of re-ment collectors are strongly opposed to Disney re-ment, but while I do agree that there should be a good mixture of sets with and without Disney collaboration, I must say that the Stitch cooking set contains a lot of really cute and detailed pieces. Everyone who liked Stitch even a little bit should give it a try in my opinion ;)

The boys went up to Birmingham to watch Aston Villa play (they lost, 2 nil- Will is gutted). So while they had a little adventure, we made soup, biscuits and cake.
Ruby loves cooking, she's far better at it than me and she's only 6. She wants to be a chef when she grows up.
