We are back from our trip to Vietnam and Cambodia, we enjoyed it!

The first city we visited was Hanoi with a very busy streetlife. A lot of people are cooking and eating on the street.

Spaghetti with Bouchot Mussels and Cream

A time-lapse video of me cooking dinner yesterday evening.

 

A fairly simple meal - Pasta Bake, designed to use up whatever happens to be lurking around in the fridge at the time.

 

Here's a quick synopsis:

 

Gently fry chopped onions, garlic and chilli until soft. Add coarsely chopped vegetables (courgettes, red peppers, aubergine). Add chopped chorizo, and some sausages (skinned, and coarsely chopped). Add jar of passata, slug of red wine, salt and pepper, and leave to simmer for a good while.

 

Cook pasta. Drain pasta. Mix pasta and sauce together and transfer to baking dish. Top with buffalo mozzarella and bake in the oven until the cheese has melted and the pasta has crisped up a little on top.

 

Very tasty...

It's kind of like cooking with gas, but much, much harder. Top Chef tonight. Squeeee!

Chapter 1 – „The gangs of Coruscant“

 

Part 6 – Of missions, doubts and Roba sausages

 

When Jona finally reached her favorite canteen, located at the higher levles of the temple, she already saw her friends Caileta and Ahm sitting at one of the tables. She walked over to the counter, peripherically noticing Lyle sitting alone at another table. She was strangely satisfied, seeing that he was eating alone, with a grim expression on his face. Those emotions were not appropriate for a Jedi, but Jona couldn’t help it. She just disliked this boy. She ordered the long anticipated Roba sausages, her favorite meal, and impatiently waited for the waiter handing it over to her. That could take quite a while, since the canteen was run by civilian and Jedi personel alike. While the employees did their job well, the Jedi, especially the Padawans, struggled to deliver the orders on time, since they kept chatting with their hungry mates on the other side of the counter.. When Jona received her food, she quickly walked over to Caileta and Ahm. „Hey Jona !“ Caileta greeted her. „Had a successful day ?“ Ahm asked. „Yes, certainly,“ Jona replied,“we caught the Rodain smugglers we were looking for !“. „Good work ! That mission took long enough. I bet you had a fun time when they fought back ?“ Ahm exclaimed. „No, they were as frightened as always. Just imagine, they were sitting in a room full of high tech weapons and didn’t even try !“ Jona laughed. Even though she still was a bit angry about the fact that she wouldn’t face the trials soon, she enjoyed the company of her friends. „So, what’s next ?“ Caileta asked, she wasn’t the kind of funny person, or at least it always took a while to make her laugh. „I don’t know, really“ Jona answered, „Since I won’t be facing the trials soon, I don’t really have a plan.“ She tried to be positive and joke about it a bit. That mostly worked for her. „Well, I’ll be going on a mission soon, and my Master said that it would be off Coruscant, maybe in the outer rim.“ Ahm said. Oh, well, her friend s always seemed to get what she actually wanted. For a moment she wondered though, why would Ahm, who was strong in the force and most likely next up to face the trials, going on a mission like this ? His master was a council member and one of the most powerful jedi in the order. Didn’t her master say, that an experienced team wouldn’t be needed right now ? „Me too,“ Caileta suddenly woke Jona from her thoughts,“ but we won’t be leaving just yet. Master Amandis said he would have me practice some extra sword fighting techniques first.“ Caileta was really lucky. Master Amandis, certainly the most well liked master of the order and a hero for any youngling or Padawan had chosen her as his aprentice at the time. In fact the three of them formed an elite within the elite, since they were all Padawans of council members. That was most likely also the reason for them to despise Lyle even more. He was an ordinary Padawan of an ordinary master. Once again, these thoughts were not appropriate for a Jedi, but still very present in Jona’s mind. Having nothing to add, Jona turned to her plate and took the first bite of the roba sausages. They tasted even better than in her imagination. She took a look around, quickly getting distracted by Lyle, who she could see from her place. What was this guy thinking right now ? Lyle was still sitting alone at a table for four. Noone bothered to share his company. His grim expression and his habit of eating quickly, which Jona had noticed several times before, seemed to scare of everyone. He always was cheerful when he had enough people around and was working on something mechanical but whenever Jona saw him alone and apparently lost in thought, he seemed more serious. Or maybe he just missed his audience. Yes, that had to be it. Jona turned to her plate again, listening to Ahm speculating about his mission and expressing his doubts about his skills. Somehow he was never that self assured as Jona or Caileta. Still he was a most skilled and perfectly educated Padawan and most likely the first one of them to face the trials. Jona couldn’t understand his doubts. She never had any and hopefully never would...

One of the best builds for Uncertain ways so far, in my opinion. I love building Star Wars every day life ! It took me quite a while and quite some reasearch to design the Jedi canteen. The photos were quite difficult to take, too. I hope you like the new characters that I introduced here. I certainly do. The next part is already completed, too. Stay tuned for more photos of this part aswell.

Great little cook set for one person.

The kit is compact and not too heavy.

The alcohol burner is super quiet.

I used it almost everyday, sometimes four times a day.

It's very easy to set up.

The stand provides excellent stability.

The flame burns well in windy conditions.

I used all three pieces, saucepan and two pots.

Fuel consumption was about 1 L per week.

Gastronomie très spatiale ! Malheureusement pour mes coéquipiers, mes talents culinaires ne sont pas à la hauteur de ma nationalité… Au moins, Shane et Oleg avec qui j’ai déjà vécu dans la Station étaient prévenus cette fois. Une création so frenchie aujourd’hui : crêpe chocolat-fraises. J'ai bien précisé que c'est exactement comme ça que les Bretons les faisaient (comment ça c’est une tortilla ?)👨‍🍳

 

Space cooking! My crewmates were very disappointed that my cooking skills are close to zero… shame on a Frenchman! Here’s my best culinary creation so far: with strawberries and chocolate (please disregard that the crêpe is actually a tortilla, who are you to judge 😉)

The Bishnoi are a tribal/religious sect whose belief in the sanctity of the environment, and the need to protect trees and animals dates from the 15th century.

 

Bishnoi (also known as Vishnoi) is a Hindu religious sect found in the Western Thar Desert and northern states of India. They follow a set of 29 principles/commandments given by Guru Jambheshwar (1451-1536). Jambheshwar founded the sect at Samrathal Dhora in 1485 and his teachings, comprising 120 shabads, are known as Shabadwani. There are an estimated 10,00,000 followers of Vishnoi sect residing in large number in states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.

 

The 29 tenets of Bishnoism state:

Observe 30 days' state of ritual impurity after child's birth and keep mother and child away from household activities.

[To prevent Infant and Mother from external infection]

Observe 5 days' segregation while a woman is in her menses.

[For Comfort and Hygiene]

Take bath daily in the morning before sunrise.

Obey the ideal rules of life: Modesty, Patience, Cleanliness.

Pray two times everyday (morning and evening).

Eulogise God, Vishnu, in evening hours (Aarti)

Perform Yajna (Havan) with the feelings of welfare devotion and love.

Use filtered water, milk and cleaned firewood.

Speak pure words in all sincerity.

Practice forgiveness from heart.

Be merciful from heart.

Do not steal or keep any intention to do it.

Do not condemn or criticize.

Do not lie.

Do not indulge in dispute/debate.

Fast on Amavasya.

Worship and recite Lord Vishnu in adoration

Be merciful to all living beings and love them.

Do not cut green trees, save the environment.

Crush lust, anger, greed and attachment.

Cook your food by yourself.

Provide shelters for abandoned animals to avoid them from being slaughtered in abattoirs.

Do not sterilise bulls.

Do not use or trade opium.

Do not smoke or use tobacco or its products.

Do not take bhang or hemp.

Do not drink alcohol/liquor.

Do not eat meat, always remain pure vegetarian.
