Newport Beach, CA. One of my favorite restaurants when we lived in Orange County, CA. Whenever we get back to OC we make a point of going there.
Heaven’s Flame cooker oven box with jars of water for testing temperature gradient. Blue wires lead to digital thermometer. (Picture taken by JB)
An experiment to see if a solar box cooker would work in London in November. The jars inside contain water which peaked at about 44°C before the sun got too low.
This group thought their cooker would set the marshmallows on fire...it didn't, but the end result still tasted great!
Another little window into how we were. This is the second, 1949 edition of a book brought out in 1939; I suppose the war got in the way of updates. What is surprising is the number of things for the housewife to do that I would have expected the man to do (like I do today), such as changing tap washers or putting up shelves.
I like the enamel bowl!
This reminds me of a "march out", i.e. moving out of an army married quarter. Cookers were the bane of the married serviceman's life as they were usually expected to look pristine irrespective of their age. On our last march out on leaving the army, I stripped our gas cooker to its minutest components, it took at least half a day.
Coral Castle - Carving by Edward Leedskalnin

Ed has built a massive rectangular megalith with clean cut windows on all 4 sides. It is commonly referred to as the "Barbecue Cooker". Edward Leedskalnin used this to cook chicken and hot dogs. He would create a fire in the pit, and insert the food into the differential. Now, we have an air tight vessel (differential) which cooks the food faster and will prevent it from splattering all over the place. Ed imagined his sweet sixteen will come and use this cooker to make him food on a daily basis.
The villagers in Gongma village are having a meeting and will vote who are the poorest families. These families will then receive solar cookers through my current project.
The name on the van is that of a local mortuary. I wonder what is going to be cooked in that thing that is in tow? The size and shape of it are just a little odd. ;-)
Just a bit of water, enough so that it doesn't reach the tray. It takes a very short time to get that small an amount of water to boil.

Student living is an excellent reminder to me that you do not always have to own all the right equipment, particularly if you're innovative. Here is a slow cooker repurposed as a beer cooler, and doing a great job thanks to the separation between inner and outer walls.
Finally I bought a pressure cooker.
This one is Silit, made in Germany.
I made curry and cooking time was shortened to 1/3! All the veges and meat was so soft!
It changed my life in big way! I love my pressure cooker. Next dish will be meat ball with tomato sauce.
My very first すいはんき(suihannki). For some reason until today I have not been able to remember that word, but today I've been able to. It's small but it's great for me. It makes 3cups of rice, well, 3 cups of uncooked rice. It's just right for me.
Despite the fact that my Dad designed the KFC chicken cookers of the 60s and 70s and that we ate test chicken almost every night, he still likes to have it from time to time. So, we stopped for some this morning and ate it on the porch. With sweet tea.
Testing variables...students were in charge of the design, controlling variables, and collecting data.
