Finally got to cook my chili over the campfire this year.
Last year there was a burn ban in effect at the time.
The year before I had to work that morning (after working late the night before) so had to cook it in the crockpot while I took a nap.
Didn't win this year but know I was in the top three of the eight that entered.
A statue of Thomas Cook by James Walter Butler RA stands on London Road, outside Leicester Railway Station. The statue was commissioned by Leicester City Council with assistance from British Railways Community Unit and Thomas Cook Ltd, and was unveiled by Thomas Cook, great-great-grandson of the subject, on 14 January 1994.
Thomas Cook's career as a travel pioneer began in 1841, when he hired a train to take a party from Leicester to a temperance rally in Loughborough. The success of this first trip led him to establish his travel business, and in 1851 he transported thousands of visitors to the Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace.
The Paris Exhibition of 1855 drew Thomas Cook abroad for the first time, and within a year or two he was arranging holidays all over the continent. Cook joined the Prince of Wales at the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, and took parties to Syria and the Holy Land. By the 1880s, his firm had obtained a monopoly of Nile passenger traffic and had set up their own fleet of steamers.
Thomas Cook died in 1892 and is buried in Welford Road Cemetery, Leicester. After Cook's death, the business was continued by his son John Mason Cook.

Aoraki/Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand. It lies in the Southern Alps range, which runs the length of the West Coast of the South Island. This is the view from the eastern side at Lake Tepako.

My maternal Grandmother was born a Cook. The Cook family has held family reunions for decades. The photos in this album were from a reunion held in Medford, Oregon
My Grandfather, Cook, as a young man. The label in the corner identifies the studio in "North Portal NWT." From what I've found on historic maps of Canada much of the western part of the country was the Northwest Territories (NWT) until about 1905. Current maps show a small town of North Portal just across the Canada-North Dakota border. My Grandfather was in North Dakota around 1900.
I like the shirt and tie cut from the same material. I wish I could make out what's on his lapel, looks like some sort of a pin.
This photo meet the project guidelines because the fireplace and wall frame the dog. One strength of this photo is that it has a strong focal point. one weakness of this photo is that it is slightly too bright in the background. The principle of design being used is contrast between the black dog and white wall.

Reading weblogs this morning and came across a mention that Governor Schwarzenegger was going to spend most of the week in Orange County. (Sure whatever - probably at some $500 a plate venue for over-dressed Republicans.) Scanned down the list of appearances, and hit "Cooks Corner" (hey! that's close!) on Saturday (today!) at 12:30pm (the clock read 12:24pm).
Cooks Corner used to be a remote hangout for a bunch of somewhat disreputable motorcycle riders. That was long ago - now Cooks Corner shares the canyon with multi-million dollar homes. The ranks of gleaming motorcycles lining the street are toys for affluent suburbanites ... who like to dress in leather costume on weekends.
So hopped in the car to see if we could collect some pictures...
As it turns out, I guessed wrong about the direction he would come from, and picked the wrong spot. Did get a bit closer, but none of the pictures turned out.
The Governor is somewhere in that crowd.
Oh well, it was amusing.
