Cook in Canada

My Grandfather, Cook, as a young man. The label in the corner identifies the studio in "North Portal NWT." From what I've found on historic maps of Canada much of the western part of the country was the Northwest Territories (NWT) until about 1905. Current maps show a small town of North Portal just across the Canada-North Dakota border. My Grandfather was in North Dakota around 1900.

 

I like the shirt and tie cut from the same material. I wish I could make out what's on his lapel, looks like some sort of a pin.
