Photo #1 submitted - Assignment: Grilling (Barbecuing) and Cold Drinks

The Weekly Assignment begins , Friday 07-04-08. It will run through Thursday 07-10-08.

1 – Grilling (Barbecuing) In the United States, July 4th is a national holiday that celebrates the founding of the Republic. One tradition of the Fourth is a picnic with grilled (barbecued) meats and vegetables. But, grilling is a common form of cooking in many places around the globe (see the Wikipedia article Grilling for reference). The photographer is challenged to shoot images that illustrate the art of cooking on a barbecue or grill in his/her part of the world. You should strive to create images that makes the viewer’s mouth water in anticipation of some fabulous food.

2 – Cold Drinks Since we are on the subject of picnics, how could a picnic be complete something cold to drink?

We’ve all seen the ads for liquid refreshments that make the viewer want to reach into the picture, grab an icy, sweating can or bottle and take a big swig of a cold, invigorating beverage. This theme challenges you to apply your imagination and photographic skills to creating images that visually illustrate a cold drink on a hot day.

We went camping at Matiu/Somes Island, a Department of Conservations Scientific Reserve and Historic Reserve in our Wellington Harbour. Took ferry across from Eastbourne, camped overnight and went on many adventures around the Island.

Photo is of a Cook Strait Giant Weta held by a DOC ranger. These nocturnal critters are too fat to jump and their little mouths are too small to bite you ... the girls held them, I was too busy taking the photo :-)

Rarotonga is the most populous island of the Cook Islands. It lies just inside the Tropic of Capricorn, similar to Honolulu. White sandy beaches surround most of the island.
