In the exciting build up to Die Another Day’s finale, Zao and James Bond engage in a deadly duel on the ice with two evenly matched, fully tooled machines — 007’s Aston Martin V12 Vanquish versus Zao’s lethal Jaguar XKR, going head to head on a frozen lake while glaciers loom behind.

At the time of filming, the Ford Motor Company owned Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo among others, allowing the Bond producers their pick. They opted for the production line model XKR, with its supercharged, 400bhp engine, as the villain’s vehicle. Rather impractically for a vehicle used in Iceland, Zao’s splendidly finished XKR is a convertible.

This 2002-built, metallic green, 4-litre V8, 155mph Jaguar XKR is now on display at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu.

It's a nice, clean resto-mod. I like that the wheel color and upholstery match and the thin stripes in the grille bars do as well! The bright trim rings and hub caps are a perfect visual complement.

Taken with a Nikon D800 using a Fotodiox 4x5 adapter on a Horseman L45 with a Schneider 210mm G-Claron f/9 lens @ f/22.

This was a test shot as I'm seeing what I can do with this setup for Macro Photography. I used a bit of front tilt to bring the lettering on the Shutter mostly into focus.

I'm told my Grandfather was planning to use this lens to build an enlarger. It's a Triple-convertible Wollensak lens in a Conley Safety Shutter. Depending on how the elements were arranged it could be an 8", 14", or 18" lens. Based on some info I was able to find the coverage is probably somewhere around 5x8, so it won't work for my 8x10 cameras, but might work for my 4x5 cameras. The lensboard it is on is rather interesting, as it's in a wooden lensboard, which in turn is in rather fancy cardboard lensboard to convert it for use in a different size camera. This is the only time I've ever seen a cardboard lensboard.

Here is one you do not see very often - a 1964 Dodge 880 convertible.

Parked at the drive-inn theatre between two equally iconic convertibles. The red beauty is a 1954 MG TF and you could pick up one of them for $2350 new. Packing 57 hp it also came with an unadvertised feature....owning one of these babys would turn you into a part-time auto mechanic. (Some might argue more than part-time.) The line was introduced in the 1930s and quite a few were brought back to the States by GIs returning from the European Theatre after the end of the War. AACA Museum in Hershey, PA.

A lovely red Ford Mustang convertible, perfect for open-top cruising. This was taken at the Manningtree Vehicle Show in Essex, England. This is 3 exposures with -1+ stops bracketing, then Photomatix for HDR and tonemapping, then Photoshop for the finishing touches.

Packard Concours d'Elegance - Double Tree Inn

I overheard a conversation between 2 Packard owners yesterday regarding the 'Packard' script at the rear of the front fender on this car. One was telling the other that the pioneering Packard dealership owner Earl C. Anthony had those made up and installed exclusively on cars purchased from his dealership. He may be right because the typeface is not correct. If Packard had installed it at the factory it would have looked different. To double check I went to Old Car Manual Project and looked up a brochure for a '52 Packard. Sure enough, there's no script on the fender.
