At the last minute, we learned that the 2017 Hemmings Motor News' Great Race would be passing through town on the way from Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan to the finish line in Traverse City, so we hustled down to the road to see if we could catch some of the cars as they passed by even though we really didn't know anything about the Great Race. The cars came through interspersed with the normal traffic and we were late enough that we only caught a few of them and the resulting photos weren't great. I happened to be glad to capture this old LaSalle as my father bought a used one for the family car when I was a kid and I hadn't really seen many since then. This year's race was from Florida to Michigan following the Dixie Highway.
From the net:
"About The Great Race First run in 1983, the Great Race was conceived as a time/distance/endurance rally initially limited to prewar vehicles. It has since followed the expansion of the hobby and is now open to all 1972 and older collectible cars, trucks, and motorcycles. The nine-day race has also evolved to include five divisions: Grand Champion, Expert, Sportsman, Rookie, and X-Cup. Here's how they are organized:
A note on scoring: With several undisclosed checkpoints along each leg, Great Race organizers know in advance how long it should take each entry to get from point A to point B every day. A perfect score for each leg would therefore be 0.00 seconds, also referred to as an Ace. To enable older vehicles to be more competitive with the mechanically improved vehicles of newer years, an age factor is calculated into each team's daily score. The older the vehicle, the greater the advantage. The 2014 Great Race marked the first and only time a postwar car has won this storied event."

An early 1940s Cadillac convertible seen in Murphys, California. I can't determine the model year but it closely resembles a 1944 but earlier models look nearly identical. Anyone know this car?
This Ford Mustang convertible was the last in the cavalcade of classic cars at the 2016 Montclair, New Jersey Fourth of July parade. Always end with a bang, I say. :-)
