The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in North Judson, Indiana was given the opportunity by the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad Company to acquire a very unique piece of railroad history--Grasselli Tower in East Chicago. The IHB decommissioned the tower during the later part of 2007 and promptly offered the tower to the HVRM. Grasselli was one of the last remaining railroad towers in Northern Indiana.

Grasselli Tower once stood along Kennedy Avenue in East Chicago, Indiana guarding the junction between the IHB, EJ&E, and B&OCT. More information about Grasselli Tower can be found at www.grassellitower.com/.

Please make a donation to help restore the tower, if possible.

Also seen here is the Nickel Plate Road signal mast and a set of three searchlights.

Michael Freeman says the essence of street photography is taking pictures of something the photographer, and the photographer only, has seen.

I see street photography allows a moment no one else would know about being captured.

Quantum mechanics says something exists in a specific shape when we observe it.

Who's right? Freeman, quantum mechanics or me? 😊

Searchlights once protected the diamond at Tower 26 after it was rebuilt to its modern arrangement in the early 90's. By 2013, UP was triple-tracking the West Belt here and reconfiguring the CP's around the interlocker. The searchlights would be gone in a year.

As everybody was busy to show off in this outstanding TriBeCa space with an outstanding rooftop terrace, no one seemed to pay this totally gorgeous, unpretentious beauty any mind, as she was diligently doing her job, cleaning there where less caring, more ego-driven people were desperately trying to be noticed.

Fortunately, I spotted her.
