Searchlights once protected the diamond at Tower 26 after it was rebuilt to its modern arrangement in the early 90's. By 2013, UP was triple-tracking the West Belt here and reconfiguring the CP's around the interlocker. The searchlights would be gone in a year.

Surveying Benchmark on Obelisk (or "Three-Sided Concrete Pier") - Hoover Dam

As everybody was busy to show off in this outstanding TriBeCa space with an outstanding rooftop terrace, no one seemed to pay this totally gorgeous, unpretentious beauty any mind, as she was diligently doing her job, cleaning there where less caring, more ego-driven people were desperately trying to be noticed.

Fortunately, I spotted her.

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore."

CN 2713 and IC 1029 lead a long manifest freight and ethanol train eastbound past the Rockford East interlocking and over the Joseph Behr scrap yard #3 switch at milepost 85.6 on the CN Freeport Subdivision in Rockford IL. The train is approaching the Kishwaukee Street grade crossing as it passes over the former site of the historic IC/CB&Q diamond which was once a manned interlocking tower. Rockford East is now a control point and a remote interlocking for the Illinois Railway/CP connection to Davis Junction and Flagg Center. The interlocking is operated by the CN Homewood IL RTC 100 miles to the southeast. Just visible in the background is the 1901 arched timber stringer bridge that carries Seminary Street over the line. The photographer is standing on the former site of the IC West Belt industrial loop connection behind the old Testor's Chemical Company building. The West Belt is gone but the eastern half of the loop, known as the East Belt, remains active and connects to the CN about a mile east of here across from Buckbee siding.

The Illinois Railway (Helm Leasing Company) HLCX 1003 (ex-UP 2503) a GP38-3. This is at milepost 85.6 on the CN Freeport Subdivision at the East Rockford control point and the interlocking with the Illinois Railway. The crew is about to manually operate the electric lock switch just ahead allowing them to leave the CN main and back into Behr Iron and Metal (in the background) as it does most weekday evenings. After they complete their duties at Behr they will back down the CN main past the interlocking and then head south on their own line which is the diverging track in the foreground. The Illinois Railway line south from here is former CB&Q track. It passes over (and can interchange with) the IC&E diamond at Davis Junction and terminates with the BNSF at Flagg Center where this segment of the IR is based. The two switches on the CN were specifically set up for the nightly Behr switching operations. These switches replaced the historic IC/CB&Q diamond at this site which was once controlled by a manned interlocking tower. Incidentally, the old diamond is still at this location tossed aside and just rusting away in the tall grass.
