CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE WARHORSE, Iraq – Specialist Joshua Sanchez, a signal support systems specialist from Grand Junction, Colo., 556th Signal Company, 225th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, races into the finish line following a six-minute pace to finish first during the Great Aloha Run, March 6, 2011, at Contingency Operating Base Warhorse, Iraq. Following the race, awards were presented to the top three finishers in each age group, as well as plaques for Sanchez, who placed first overall for the Men’s category with a time of 53 minutes, 06 seconds; and 1st Lt. Kryistal Patrick, a something from Claremore, Okla., HHC, 2nd AAB, 25th Inf. Div., who placed first overall in the Women’s category with a time of 1:03:11.

Members of the 688th Rapid Port Opening Element (RPOE), 597th Transportation Brigade, from Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., participate in a joint exercise called Turbo Distribution 16-2 from March 6 to March 18. A gap in a contingency dike allows sandbags to be dropped off at homes along the Red River in Fargo, N.D. April 7. Homes on the other side of the earthen dike are constructing temporary sandbag levees to keep rising river water away from their property. The earthen contingency dike is a secondary dike built to protect the rest of Fargo in the event the sandbag dikes should fail. CONTINGENCY OPERATING LOCATION Q-WEST, Iraq — Spc. Houston B. Johnson, a gun truck driver from Batesville, Miss., provides security during a Feb. 1 humanitarian mission at Jedallah Anuk, a small village near Q-West. The Mississippi Guardsman serves with A Company, 2nd Battalion, 198th Combined Arms, 155th Brigade Combat Team, out of Hernando, Miss., the Q-West force protection company, which delievered care packages in behalf of the city of Barrington, R.I. Since 2003, Barrington has been sending clothing, school supplies and other items to Jedallah Anuk in an Adopt-a-Village program initiated by the 101st Airborne Division.

CONTINGENCY OPERATING SITE WARRIOR, Iraq – Deputy Commanding General-Support Brig. Gen. James Pasquarette, U.S. Division-North and 4th Infantry Division, commends Sgt. ‘Hey now you’re a Rock Star’

CONTINGENCY OPERATING SITE WARRIOR, Iraq – Rock band, Smash Mouth, rattles the gym floor at Contingency Operating Site Warrior, performing their hit song “All Star,” Feb. 14, 2011. The West Coast band brought Soldiers home with energetic performances of their 90‘s Rock music. “The music brought me back to sunny days in California, hanging out with friends, listening to music,” said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Jennylyn Hisola, who hails from Anchorage, Alaska, and is serving with 341st Global Strike Command, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont. Their first tour for service members deployed to Iraq, Smash Mouth said they enjoy bringing their music to the troops and would love to come back in the future.

Contingency buses seen staged just north of Rose Quarter Transit Center (on Wheeler, Soutbound next to the Moda Center). They were to assist with the steel bridge closure MAX Shuttles, but they ended up not being needed on the day when this photo was taken.

 

This was also the last day that 2555 was ever used in a public setting. It is also one of the very few times that a 2500 was seen in public with replaced windows (some of the windows on this bus were swapped out with ones on LFRs)

The new honorary commanders received opening remarks from Col. John Klein, 60th Air Mobility Wing, commander, a 60th Air Mobility Wing mission brief and conferences with 60th Air Mobility Wing Legal Office, Airmen’s Leadership School instructors and Travis Air Force Base Golden Bears, Sandy Person and Scott Farmer. The program is designed to create a communications line between local leaders and Travis Air Force Base airmen. The commanders also reviewed a line of fire demonstration provided 621st Contingency Response Wing where they demonstrated the equipment and tools used during a routine deployment.
