Not all warriors wear green: Air Force JTACs earn respect
JALALABAD AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Airmen called Joint Terminal Attack Controllers or members of the Tactical Air Control Party are aligned with Army units and are every bit as tough and hardened as Army infantrymen.
JTACs and TACPs live, eat and march the mountains with the infantry and stand ready to call in close air support for the troops they are embedded with.
"Eighty percent of our deployment is spent in the field," said Airman 1st Class Adam Green, a native of Chandler, Ariz. "Day to day we're out with the 'Joes' on the ground playing cards or getting in contact and putting bombs on the target."
"We bring the fast movers to the table – fast carriers that carry a lot of ordnance, like A-10s," said Air Force Staff Sgt. Derek Wilson from Sacramento, Calif. "There's no better feeling than being in a firefight and having an A-10 arrive choc-full with bombs."
"[We have artillery support] but nothing is going to put more firepower on the battlefield than a 1,000 pound bomb or multiple 1,000 pound bombs," said Green. "That's what we bring."
Calling in bombs on the enemy is not as easy as making a telephone call.
"In a firefight you have to de-conflict fires and airspace; you have guys on the ground yelling at you to get bombs on the target; you have to know the rules of engagement," said Wilson. "You have to bring in those bombs within the perimeter of war. You have to keep a calm head."
The two Airmen did not exaggerate their roles or the austerity of their living.
"These guys spend more time outside the wire than inside," said Air Force Tech. Sgt. Christopher Mann, from Jacksonville, Fla. "Green spent 48 days in a foxhole up in the mountains and Wilson spent six months with (other governmental agencies) before we got here. You're not going to see any other career field in the Air Force spend that much time outside of the wire."
The role of the weapons systems they support is huge on the battlefield. Many times all it takes is a show of force. Just the roar of aircraft getting closer saves lives by intimidating the enemy into breaking contact. It allows friendly forces to act on the change of momentum and pursue or close in on and kill the enemy, said Mann.
"Within months of finishing (technical training) school, these Airmen see combat," said Mann, a onetime instructor at JTAC school. "When I was teaching at the school, I use to tell these guys 'you're going to be in combat. You're going to see friends die, maybe not your Air Force friends, but the Soldiers you become friends with.' But of the 800 students I trained, I never talked to one who said 'this isn't for me.'"
Earning the respect of the infantrymen is a process. Short of dropping bombs and neutralizing the enemy, the airmen prove themselves by keeping up, doing their share, and knowing their job. It's a process they're happy to do.
"Yeah, he has to prove himself," Mann said of an airman fighting alongside the infantry. "But, that's how we get our foot in the door. They will earn respect through their knowledge."
"When you first get to an Army unit there is an aspect of having to prove yourself," said Green. "You're surrounded by these 11-Bravos (infantry) and you have to prove yourself. But once you do your job, they appreciate you being there. All it takes is the first time."
"Some people want to look down on us because we're Air Force," said Wilson. "You walk up to the top of a mountain - we keep up with a ruck heavier than most - and all of a sudden things hit the fan and we go to work. We neutralize the enemy and they're glad we're here. It's gratifying."
These Airmen, some of the few in the Air Force that can be seen wearing berets, Army combat patches and Army awards, get a serious sense of gratification from their work.
"It kind of saves the day, so to speak," Green agreed. "It's a war out here and only so many guys in the Air Force are there to take it to the enemy. That's what's satisfying."
"The best part of our job is being out in the field neutralizing the enemy," said Wilson. "Getting bombs on the target, that's what it's all about."
"There's no other job in the Air Force where you're going to get that kind of first hand action," added Green.
For all the effort involved in earning respect, these "blue Soldiers" benefit from the challenge in a true display of character and insight.
"It's a challenge working with the Army," said Wilson. "You have to prove yourself. You can't let them see you slip or they will hold that to you. You have to be at the top of your game the whole time. Not just because you don't want to slip but because you could potentially get someone killed."
The dedication these Airmen displayed is an uncommon one. Although Army units now serve 15-month deployments, these Airmen have only six month deployments. That didn't stop these Airmen from serving their year, however.
"These guys volunteered to stay along with the extension," said Mann. "That says a lot about these guys. This has been the fifth or sixth deployment for Wilson. (Wilson and Green) are doing a phenomenal job. They both have supported every major contingency operation in the past year."
"I saw a poster that said, 'we need a few good Airmen to join the Army,'" Green recalled. "I shipped off to school not knowing what we really did. I didn't really know what we did until I got down range. Now I know exactly what we are doing."

In the Eurasian state apparatus a contingency plan was in place in the event of civil war. The secret police and special forces had been monitoring the Russian Ultranationalists for years, and by the year of their uprising had concluded that they'd thoroughly lost control of most of the European part of Russia. However, it was deemed that to kill this and any other uprising as soon as possible, the most elite elements of the Eurasian Military would decapitate the leadership of any militants as quickly as possible. So when the Russian Ultranationalist Leadership traveled to Paris to meet with NATO and coordinate their rebellion, Eurasian special forces infiltrated and executed every leader before disappearing into the night. Without its head the Ultranationalist Rebellion would be slowly chipped away until its final defeat some five years later.
My final scene before I go back to college for the spring semester, it's looking like I'll have a busy summer too so don't expect many big projects but I would like to do these scenes as I get the chance during these next few months.
About to touch down at Prestwick airport in Scotland is this USAF "Little Rock" AFB Lockheed C130j Hercules.
Little Rock Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force base located approximately 17 miles (27 km) northeast of Little Rock, Arkansas.
The host unit at Little Rock AFB is the 19th Airlift Wing (19 AW), assigned to the Air Mobility Command 21st Expeditionary Mobility Task Force. The wing provides the Department of Defence the largest C-130 Hercules transport fleet in the world, supplying humanitarian airlift relief to victims of disasters, as well as airdropping supplies and troops into the heart of contingency operations in hostile areas.
Since we are definitely in the cold grip of winter here where I live, it seems like good timing for this one. It features a new vest from Brick Affliction (which I believe should be available later this month). It doesn't really have what would be considered realistic winter military colors, but I wanted to add a few accents to the mix to make it more interesting.

As ever, we had rain during our stay in the Lakes but as a contingency plan, we headed out for waterfalls. Lodore Falls are on Derwentwater, not far from Keswick and we thought they might prove interesting. There wasn't too much water, so we concentrated on detail shots.

since the different elements in the forest resonate with one another, they created an atmosphere for your glory. as everyone of us seemed to be tied by our secrets and lies, no one asked for answer to the questions nor anyone wants to give them! all-together, the supreme wish in the self keeps the nature of accumulation. the force to purloin that desired thing, even if in a skewed way never brings coherence and honesty to the answers, as the hard questions keep up with the exceeding score. and when you romped through the questions and collected the pleasure in certain minor moments, you don’t necessarily know what causes your major and minor emotions; and what patterns stay, of presences and voices held in a captive cycle - closed enough, like a narrowing down spiral in which you get closer to the center, each time with the repetitive cycle - to the selfish beginning by which you fleshed a few things out. keeping busy with survival, each assessment brings the same result subject to the pressures and contingencies of space and time - tugged in conflicting directions by your own identity. so many battles lost to greed, showing you ultimate hollowness of power. in retrospect you question yourself, of how you tried to come out of this center, "i sewed in further nodes of connections, like burnt threads only to emerge forty-seven or one hundred pages later."
the dreams of creating new nodes of connection through powers of deduction - i.e; wisdom gained from each of the past cycle can seem like furthering of contrivances and play of symbolic gestures and in effect, reductive; simply because that abandonment of the self did not happen, which echoes the voices of the captive cycle.
that self in front of a mirror, that is held to be the inmost essence of truth, only hears words enacting a certain condescension —“I the mirror, am looking into your mind and see all your inner thoughts, impulses, tendencies, all the conflicting inner desires, delusions, debilitating drives, deeds of shame, suppressed dreams and all the regrets and know them much better than you do (for that reflects ambiguity).” and you cannot break this mirror nor embrace its intimidating reflection, that is being accompanied with blind arrogance of the subtle mind. inaudible condescension is usually present, just underneath the surface, of supposedly the right guide under the guise of friendship. your inner self could truly sense this tone of disconnection and knows that the rhythm which creates harmony in mind & gratefulness in heart is something different; that which your projected identity could not hold it and so you continue to shine the accumulated self in 'mirror of surface'. the flame of millions of suns of your soul cannot be killed, but can stay hidden for long by the enormous clouds. the Heart within feels the music clear♪, soon clouded by invisible walls of the undernourished mind (+ paucity in the mind of different contexts) who riots everything out. it is mind's identity which does not want to belong but occupy, trouncing the heart which always serves. refusal to take on the old ways of seeing, for the mind's identity likes to continue the grip on operational kingdom born of the body ∞⃝.
there is the root to the truth we don't want to see. burning at each end of the body as well as the mind swept, the soul still returns to occupy the body; this body made up of the endless labyrinth of accumulated body of information - threadbare and stained. each transgression to next life, remembered; memories form the triadic waves that bring in tempestuous emotions and brings out tremulous motions of a familiar but a timorous self, in the moment when you hear the rustling noise in the bushes.

this graceful moment was to go out of the frontier of self as well as out of this weariness of mine and courageously come out of all the hiding places so that you enter a central conversation where transformation is possible through a kind glance and graceful intimacy. to be far away from yourself, from your kingdom, so that you are in touch with moments of truth, this divine conversation, the core correspondence, so as to never return back to any indulgent moments, nor be alone again, in the night of indifference. never returning to those answers which created locus of concealment, but sharing heart of those answers which brought to you eternal peace. roaring with laughter for your belief filled to the brim - "some dark chocolate and faith in the poison and you're golden!". theories, speculations, stories, impostures but not seeing that the sun will not just shine only for me!" it was lot about what we enabled when we deliberately looked away from something.
this great meeting, this revelatory moment... when you are gifted to see the abundance within, so beautifully reflected in this kind and compassionate moment. that supreme source of abundance does not destabilize you as you presumed, nor cuts through you; cutting through everything you felt - ignored, impenetrable and disorienting darkness, numbness, isolation, illness, ignorance; nor a self-regard that causes to transgress personal boundaries, but simply forms a connection and takes you Home. this is not that worldly supremacy ushered into prejudice, that only offers you a place in the kingdom whose might is strength in numbers and whose spread is systemic, pervasive, insidious, pernicious and soul-damaging. true supremacy lies in constant offering of selfless love, of everything a soul needs and with great gentleness, offering a forever space in own Heart which is the abode of peace.

Aftrer a fantastic sighting of a large contingency of the Cheli Pride feasting on a wildebeest and lazing in the afternoon hours, we decided to set off in a different direction to shoot a landscape.
The clouds in the western sky were problematic, and sunset was looking like a non-event, so we shot in the opposite direction, capturing intense golden hour light falling on the acacia tree, set against an ominous sky.
Day before the race, the race cars/drivers and sponsors go down the street for the fans to see, interact with, and take photos.

The worth of man lies in his consciousness of the Absolute, and consequently in the integrality and the depth of this consciousness; having lost sight of it by plunging himself into the world of phenomena viewed as such (this is prefigured by the fall of the first couple), man needs to be reminded of it by the celestial Message.

The Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) family of vehicles provides Soldiers with highly survivable multimission platforms capable of mitigating improvised explosive devices, rocket-propelled grenades, explosively formed penetrators, underbody mines and small arms fire threats which produce the greatest number of casualties in Overseas Contingency Operations.
The Army MRAP enduring fleet is comprised of two primary vehicle platforms, the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) and the MaxxPro Family of Vehicles. This versatile family of vehicles performs the mission roles of Armored Personnel Carrier, Weapons Carrier, Convoy Protection Platform, Key Leader Vehicle, Command Post and Armored Ambulance.
MRAP's also provide light forces with protected mobility and mounted firepower to perform Wide Area Security while countering threats employing asymmetric tactics. They provide a rapid motorization capability for Brigade Combat Teams as the mission transitions from decisive operations to stability, or perform rear-area security during decisive operations.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Concept: The 21th century ethos (if my arms are not being stretched too far calling the (post)modern egobehaviour that way) should be contingent: i.e. era dependant, fogged with that rational individualism occidentally self-declared as "envied of". But what happens with mundane Events, still parented with the mentioned ethos (at least that's what we think), but left defenseless to Casuality (which is, of course, the domain of Vitality, Nature, the Unspoken (as in "beyond the human"))? Does Reality beyond our eye (and mind) exist, and if it does (and it's uncontaminated), why do we keep pumping our synapses further into issues not in our reach (absolutely not)? Like accidents, for example.
Background: Unwordly phenomenons (accidents), ah, not ours, unrational, not structured, Events, ever foreign, "unexistant", right? They were never in the palm of our hand (even if more than frequently veiled with pseudorational religious (and scientific) explanations (and explications). But it's Casuality "playing" with our centripedal ego (the all-knowing God after God died by our rational weapons), seizing us (and not the other way around, Kantian child).
Manipulation info: Again a shot overlayered with a couple of textures (some made by myself with brushes). The sky is a collage of clouds, the lower portion with the breast a shot of an unknown model of mine (?;)) and the playground too an old shot from the mount Slavnik. The man being fired off (accident) was brushed in and motion blured.

A very odd one this with a Barnstaple bound service seen soon after rejoining the double track on the branch with a NBL Type 2 towing a 2 car dmu that has lost it's rear driving motor second. The lack of an appropriate headcode suggests it was an emergency contingency. The class 22 exhibits a common trait of the class with portions of the bodyside skirt missing.
