The Vermont National Guard sent a contingency of five soldiers along with Maj. Gen. Steven Cray, adjutant general, Vermont National Guard, to France celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the end of World War I. Each state that had National Guard representation in World War I were invited back to France to celebrate the anniversary. National Guardsmen visited monuments, cemeteries, villages, battle sites, trenches, museums, and attended ceremonies as part of their visit. The Center for Military History provided guides throughout the trip.

CONTINGENCY OPERATING LOCATION Q-WEST, Iraq — Cpl. Terry B. Nolan, a gunner from Horn Lake, Miss., stands on the bank of the Tigris River during a security mission to the Al-Qayyarah pump house Dec. 29. The dinner provided an opportunity for attendees to enhance civic relationships and cooperation among U.S. forces, and the administrative and political leadership of Kirkuk province. “Change to a better future must be in the heart, not just in person,” said Mullah Mustafa Hussein. “Change takes more than just an appearance. Admiral Samuel J. The Contingency Command Post (CCP) consists of more than ninety personnel with the specific skills to provide a USARPAC forward command post capability, specifically focusing on small scale contingencies such as supporting humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and peace operations. The CCP can tailor personnel and equipment to fit the mission with a team as small as seven, to as many as more than one hundred twenty servicemembers in augmenting forces.

A fruitful creation

Jun Zhao, a food service specialist, assigned to Troop B, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, stands next to one of his fruit creations. Zhao, a native of Xiang Hai, China, enlisted in the military four years ago with acquired skills from working previously as an executive chef at a large restaurant. “My job is to take care of Soldiers by preparing their food.
