CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, Iraq – Chief Warrant Officer 3 Gary Tamietti, an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance pilot assigned to 339th Military Intelligence Company, Task Force ODIN, watches flight crews prepare for a mission at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, Iraq, July 26, 2011. CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, Iraq – Comedian April Macie entertains service members and civilians with her humorous advice on personal hygiene and relationships during the “It’s Not That Time of the Month” All Female Comedy tour performance at the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Center on Contingency Operating Base Speicher, March 11, 2011. Macie, who has entertained troops on several occasions, said she enjoys performing for Soldiers, and strives to bring a bit of home to the troops. Following the show, Macie and sister performers of the comedy troupe signed autographs and took pictures with audience members.

CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, Iraq – Soldiers of 34th Engineer Company (Sapper), 326th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, perform pre-combat checks and pre-combat inspections on personal protective equipment and armored route clearance vehicles at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, Iraq, Feb. 11, 2011. 2010 Olympics have exhausted their budget and the contingency fund budget - and now they're working on OVER-BUDGET...

 

...with low expectations on meeting their housing commitments for the athletes - and forget about the homeless and needy, and their increasing numbers due to displacement due to 2010 preperations.

 

It should be a great party - they'll be celebrating in the streets because they've got no place to live - no living room to watch the Olympics on TV.

CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, Iraq – “Ironhorse Strong” Soldier, Pfc. Trevin Grimaldi, an infantryman from Port Saint Lucie, Fla., assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, leads Iraqi soldiers in first aid training at Contingency Operating Base Warhorse, Iraq, Nov. 28, 2010. Through his dedication to duty, demonstrating professional initiative, Grimaldi proved himself a valuable asset and a true infantryman to the Soldiers of Company C. Grimaldi’s selfless service, initiative and attention to detail earned him the honor of Ironhorse Strong Soldier of the Week, said Johnson.

The Vermont National Guard sent a contingency of five soldiers along with Maj. Gen. Steven Cray, adjutant general, Vermont National Guard, to France celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the end of World War I. Each state that had National Guard representation in World War I were invited back to France to celebrate the anniversary. National Guardsmen visited monuments, cemeteries, villages, battle sites, trenches, museums, and attended ceremonies as part of their visit. The Center for Military History provided guides throughout the trip.

CONTINGENCY OPERATING LOCATION Q-WEST, Iraq —Spc. Christopher Joiner, a Gunner for Crusader Troop, 1st Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment of the Tennessee Army National Guard, gears up and prepares himself for a convoy and patrol mission. The Iraqi Army provides a protection force for a pump house on the Tigris River in Ninawa Province, and the 1/278th ACR, who has just recently occupied Q West, has been conducting patrols to that area during the RIP TOA process, and will continue to do so once the hand off is complete between the 1/278th and the leaving unit.
