Deutsches Historisches Museum (Pei-Bau)
Das Deutsche Historische Museum ist Deutschlands nationales Geschichtsmuseum und eines der größten Geschichtsmuseen der Welt. In Berlins historischer Mitte gelegen versteht es sich als Ort zur Stärkung historischer Urteilskraft, an dem übergreifende philosophische, ethische und historische Fragen verhandelt werden.
Das Deutsche Historische Museum wurde 1987 anlässlich der 750-Jahr-Feier der Stadt Berlin von der damaligen Bundesrepublik Deutschland und dem Land Berlin gegründet. Im Rahmen des Vertrags zur deutschen Wiedervereinigung wurden die Gebäude und Sammlungen des Museums für Deutsche Geschichte, das zentrale Geschichtsmuseum der DDR, in den Besitz des Deutschen Historischen Museums überführt. Ein postmodernes Meisterwerk: Der Pei-Bau
Der Pei-Bau ist das erste Werk des chinesisch-amerikanischen Architekten Ieoh Ming Pei in Deutschland. Es wurde 2003 für Wechselausstellungen eröffnet und verfügt über vier Ebenen, womit sich die ursprüngliche Ausstellungsfläche des DHM beträchtlich vergrößerte. Pei ist weltbekannt für seine Museumsbauten, bei denen er in hoher Sensibilität historische Bausubstanz mit zeitgenössischer Gestaltung verbunden hat. So auch bei der 2003 eröffneten Ausstellungshalle für das DHM, das neben der National Gallery of Art in Washington (1978 eröffnet), der Glaspyramide des Musée du Louvre in Paris (1989 eröffnet) und des Miho Museum in der Nähe von Kyōto (1997 eröffnet) zu den ikonischen Beispielen seines Œuvres gehört.

German Historical Museum (Pei Building)
The Deutsches Historisches Museum is Germany's national history museum and one of the largest history museums in the world. Located in Berlins historic center, it sees itself as a place for strengthening historical judgment, where overarching philosophical, ethical and historical questions are negotiated.
The German Historical Museum was founded in 1987 on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the city of Berlin by the then Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Berlin. As part of the treaty on German reunification, the buildings and collections of the Museum of German History, the central history museum of the GDR, were transferred to the ownership of the German Historical Museum. With reunification in 1990, the German Historical Museum thus became an all-German museum of history.
Today, the collections of the German Historical Museum comprise around one million objects. The German Historical Museum makes a large proportion of the exhibits available to researchers and interested members of the public online in its database.
A postmodern masterpiece: the Pei Building
The Pei Building is the first work by Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei in Germany. It was opened in 2003 for temporary exhibitions and has four levels, considerably increasing the DHM's original exhibition space. Pei is world-famous for his museum buildings, in which he has combined historical structures with contemporary design with great sensitivity. This was also the case with the exhibition hall for the German Historical Museum, which opened in 2003 and is one of the iconic examples of his oeuvre alongside the National Gallery of Art in Washington (opened in 1978), the glass pyramid of the Musée du Louvre in Paris (opened in 1989) and the Miho Museum near Kyōto (opened in 1997).
I asked our assistant shop manager to choose some flowers from the Dutch van I could use for Orrery, knowing she understands the kind of material I like: cabbages and onions in this instance!
Actually, it's Alliums and what I think are the seed pods of some kind of Brassica, which I haven't seen before. It's great to work with something new.

A guest who is having her wedding ceremony at The Grove dictated the colour choice for this week. I spotted these beautiful Zantedeschia plants at the market, which I used in combination with 'Grace' Calla lilies, which are similar to 'Green Goddess'.
Our designs are always relatively simple at The Grove, as we have such a large area to cover in s short space of time. However I like how the lines of the calla lily stems work with the curves of the black gates of the restaurant in the background.
From the upper level the central hall reveals its full height, with a grid of deep window openings cut into the white wall and the BIOZENTRUM sign facing the forecourt. The curved glazed volume with its vertical curtains introduces a softer layer to the atrium, reflecting the surrounding campus while mediating between exterior light and interior circulation.
Von der oberen Ebene zeigt sich die zentrale Halle in voller Höhe, mit tiefen Fensteröffnungen in der weißen Wand und dem Schriftzug BIOZENTRUM zum Vorplatz hin. Der geschwungene verglaste Körper mit seinen senkrechten Vorhängen bringt eine weichere Schicht in das Atrium, spiegelt den umliegenden Campus und vermittelt zwischen Außenlicht und innerer Erschließung.
