One of the landmarks in front of our special beach house is an island which has been in existence since we were children. In a drawer in the special "writer's room" was an old watercolor of the island. I played with the image as I wanted to get inside of the art.
My sister and I have been rereading "A Gift From The Sea" and sharing similar thoughts and feelings about islands. Anne Morrow Lindbergh compared her vacation to an island in time where "People, too, become like islands, self-contained, whole and serene; respecting other people's solitude, not intruding on their shores, standing back in reverence before the miracle of another individual."
We were blessed with a week like that. Although we were together, we all had many moments of solitude.
“It is in deep solitude that I find the gentleness with which I can truly love my brothers.
The more solitary I am the more affection I have for them ….
Solitude and silence teach me to love my brothers for what they are,
not for what they say.”

Went hiking up to Mt. Hood National Forest to witness a beautiful Supermoon Eclipse appear on Trillium Lake. I got to meet two fantastic people who shared a cup of hot chocolate to warm my gloveless hands on that cold crisp autumn night.

Not entirely pleased with this: it may come down. But it feels like I haven't uploaded anything in so very, very long. I took this yesterday, and decided I'd at least put it up: why not?
Finals are over, life is good, and just today I packed up everything into my tiny car and drove back home for Christmas. Time for much relaxing, baking, photo-taking and general laziness. :)
Alternate version in the comments, and some from a light-painting shoot I did with friends while I should've been studying for finals.
My friend and I had a talk, where we decided that she was like a tornado, contained only by her skin, spilling from every crevice, and I was as if a tornado in a snowglobe rested inside my chest: so contained, so peaceful from outside. And that's how I ended up taking this. I know it's not a snowglobe, but I liked this just as much.

Tyne Cot Cemetery is the resting place of 11,954 soldiers of the Commonwealth Forces. This is the largest number of burials contained in any Commonwealth cemetery of either the First or Second World War. It is the largest Commonwealth military cemetery in the world.

The name "Tyne Cottages" or "Tyne Cotts" was given by the Northumberland Fusiliers to a group of German blockhouses, or pillboxes, situated near the level crossing on the Passchendaele-Broodseinde road.

So the seeds are contained in a plastic cylinder and the plastic cylinder is contained in a cage. Why? To contain the seeds for the birds and keep the squirrels out. This containment is mildly successful.

Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Canyon
The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters).
The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon–Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. The surrounding area is contained within the Baaj Nwaavjo I'tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of the preservation of the Grand Canyon area and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.
For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.

Entirely within the state of Arizona, the park encompasses 278 miles (447 km) of the Colorado River and adjacent uplands. Located on the ancestral homelands of 11 present day Tribal Communities, Grand Canyon is one of the most spectacular examples of erosion anywhere in the world—a mile deep canyon unmatched in the incomparable vistas it offers visitors from both north and south rims.
